James proved today he still has a lot of game, so ignoring the haters on this thread, the US HC season could be a very good one for James. He was outplaying and outhitting Baghdatis until *4-3 and then his game faltered. Baghdatis counter-punched well and was dictating more points the first two sets, but the last three he was at the mercy of Blake's power.

James' consistency is even worse now than it was before, but with some matches that hopefully will improve. Grass isn't his surface and he hasn't played in weeks so this is an encouraging scoreline.

James should have closed this one out. On the bright side though, this is the best I've seen him play in a long time. Expecting a decent hardcourt season from him now :)

Blake hasn't gotten past the 3th round(best finish ever at Wimbledon) since 2006:tape: so I don't know what the hell you're talking about:tape:

I thought for a bit that he was going to comeback and I couldn't believe it. Would have been crazy against a past SFist on Blake's worst surface.

okay fine-- yes americans are horrid at grass or its not their best surface. but all withstanding, looking forward to this guy's HC season is going to be as abyssmal as last year. every year, we get our hopes up, every year the HC season sucks, whether its mr. querry messing it up or roddick getting blown away by somone like a hewitt. every year we say the same thing, every year the same disapointing results.

hell, put the fork in this guy already. sick of him, plus there IS fresh new talent from OTHER countries (mind you) that could be rec' WC and getting into these draws, more interesting fresh guys with better strokes. let the new generation begin.

it just isn't good tennis.

Blake was two games from beating a pretty well playing Baghdatis on grass, not a great surface for him, after not playing in like 6 weeks. He's already right around 100, will likely make the USO directly, and the bottom line is, his weapons of serve and forehand and aggression, are still major weapons. His movement has improved from where it was last year and his mental application has improved. He's a guy who knows how to win, and if he's playing well, he can definitely cause problems during the USO series and in New York.

Of the courts, James Blake is as good as they come.

But as a player he's always found a way to snatch defeat at the jaws of victory and finish with a loss.

He should have won today. Nice effort to come back from 2 sets down, . I guess , it's a mental thing and he almost always loses those final set battles. Must have the worst 5-set record in tennis.
