Expected. Not much to really say about this match. Bernard is simply way better on the surface. Nikolay couldn't string points together and couldn't keep the ball in court consistently, his grass movement is not good at all, and he never looked like he was winning. His serve was very vulnerable. Bernard did pretty much what he wanted to do and was solid yet aggressive.

Getting closer to the top 100.

Bernie's game suits grass so well. The slice stays low, his flat shots and serve really shoot through the court. Davy struggled to get comfortable and struggled with his timing and much of that has to do with Bernie's shots. He was a lot less passive today than usual, he dictated play very efficiently. Very impressed.

2 career low point losses in a row for Davy at slams (OK I admit this one is slightly less bad than the one to Veic as much as I dislike Tomic).

I also think that Munich may have been Davy's last high point on the tour and he'll be retiring at the end of the season. Hope I'm wrong but better than than to see him keep losing like this.

i agree, i would rather have davy retire now then continue losing to players like tomic and veic(im sorry but i just cant put my extreme hate for this kid aside)

unfortunately he can not end things on a high note because he's already gone about as low as you can get

Man Bernie played well. :) He was aggressive, much more than usual.

His movement has improved, as has his serve, lots of cheap points.

Grass suits his game perfectly. I love his variation and his court sense, he's going to be a very good player should he continue to develop.

Disgusting result...although still not as bad as Kolya's game these days - he should better retire and stop embarrassing himself on court like this. This was some futures level stuff today from him:facepalm:

Now the draw opens up for him.. doesn't face a seed til fourth round (Soderling)

Champion number 1
06-21-2011, 05:03 PM
Tomic maybe hates grass, but he definitely has a future on this surface. I think Tomic can win R2, but R3 is Soderling? If thats the case then he would do very well just to reach R3 and bag alot of points for his ranking.

He has very few points to defend for the rest of the year aswell, so its likely that Tomic will be a top 100 player very soon with the hard court season upon us, as long as he plays like this.

Not a surprise, bookies had Davy as dog too.

Tomic can slice/dice/junkball to frustrate Davy, especially on this surface, when he's out of form and has no confidence. He has another decent matchup next against Andreev. Could very well make the 3rd round.

I think Denko's career reached its peak in the 2010 AO QF (SF?) match against Federer when he was up a set and a break. He lost around 10 games in a row then and hasn't been the same since.

Yeah, was the QF and he netted an easy forehand on BP in the 2nd to go up a double break, had he made that shot, well... who knows.

I also heard that he doesn't like grass. I read an article a few days before Wimbledon started, and Tomic said grass isn't his favourate surface, but he knows his game suits it. Will see if I can dig it up...

Davydenko is sort of a mystery starting the year off somewhat promising, losing form, then taking a tournament, losing form etc. Think age and maybe some lingering injuries are catching up to him. He got no consistency anymore but probably has 1 more Nadal spanking stored up for us.

Rafa at 25 is the future? He's played 8 years or in the top. He is likely in the last 1/3 of his career. If he is as cool as Borg he retires in a few months. He isn't as cool so no worries but anyway. not the future

Why this guy puts his sentences into brackets?

it's because he apologies for the content of the sentences

(Aren't players supposed to stop winning before they retire? Rafa is winning at a faster rate as he gets older. Sampras had a 3 or 4 year slump before he won his final slam. I guess the mistake some people make is comparing Rafa to Borg, or anyone for that matter)

Nah but you can't possible mean Rafa is the future. Guys like Raonic, Tomic, Harrison and maybe Dimitrov might be the future.

And while I'm happy for Tomic a win over Davydenko today doesn't say as much as it should say
