Tough one for Berdych.

Of course Volandri is a mug on grass, so no need to draw any conclusions about Berdych's form already. Still good to see Berdych come through so easily, especially as his performance in Halle was rather questionable, as he could have easily lost his first round against Bemelmans over there, and the rest of his matches weren't all too convincing either. Good job Birdy, keep it going.

Expected result. Pippo has better places to be than this tournament. Turin is next week, it's an 85K, and we all know how Pippo gets up for the Italian challengers. This was just a formality. Onto bigger and better things.

Berdych looked okay, backhand return was awful though.

Solid from Tomas, really. Forehand and backhand are still far from being perfect, he's lacking a bit of artillery and net play, but he's improving. Of course Volandri is one of the easier opponents on grass, but this was better than his matches in Halle, served well and looked okay from the ground. Solid start.

Pippo has better places to be than this tournament. Turin is next week, it's an 85K, and we all know how Pippo gets up for the Italian challengers. This was just a formality. Onto bigger and better things.

For Pippo, yes, playing a big challenger in Italy>Wimbledon. Better surface for him, he's at home with his people, he has more self-belief, and he can gain more points from winning since he isn't going to go far on grass. This loss was a mere formality for Pippo. On to the next one.

I'd rather watch unpredictable clay court matches than seeing the same Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, blah blah blah, making it deep in tournaments. I see them enough. Clay tennis is more interesting than grass tennis as well.

Berdych looks to have a safe passage to the QF's although i'm guessing we're going to have a repeat of the 2010 final =/ :rolleyes:

If that's the case then why did he play s-Hertogenbosch last week instead of Milan, a clay Italian Challenger? Both were on at the same time yet he chose the grass court event in a foreign country.
