Smart to see Pippo taking a WC into this event, but Ungur being his R1 opponent is not good news. If he wins that he should make the SF, but that is a big if.

Paire has a very good draw for at least two rounds, and needs to start making a few runs. Hopefully this is the week for that.

Machi vs Giannessi could be very interesting.

Charly has a good draw to the SF.

Hopefully it's a Machi v Pippo/Paire final.

07-04-2011, 05:22 PM
Mektic beat Trungelliti 7-6 (5) 5-7 7-5
Brizzi beat Lajovic 6-2 6-2 :yeah:

Radu played very good first set against Junqueira.

Albot 7-5 *0-0

07-05-2011, 02:40 PM
Albot 7-5 4-1*

07-05-2011, 02:54 PM

07-05-2011, 03:27 PM
Very good result for Albot.

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 03:57 PM
Giannessi has a nice game. I don't know if he'll ever be a major factor but I can see him as a top 100 player, having a similar career to the one Pippo has now. Does everything pretty well and isn't afraid to be offensive.

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 04:31 PM
Giannessi is really outplaying Machi. You don't see Machi getting outplayed this way in challengers often at all.

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 04:43 PM
Giannessi def. Gonzalez 6-4 6-3

Disappointing, but the Italian has a nice game. The second section is definitely open for him to win it.

07-05-2011, 05:29 PM
Viola def. Jouan 4-6 6-0 7-6(4)

I just watched the last set tie-break and it was pretty good. Jouan got very furious when he lost the match and threw his racquet to out of the court.

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 05:36 PM
Not surprising from Jouan, he has a temper. He shouldn't lose to players like Viola. Congrats to Matteo on winning.

07-05-2011, 05:44 PM
Great time for Giannessi. He is pretty good and he has a good time now. Viola vs. Giannessi will be a interesting match. Giannessi on fire... who knows, favourite is Giannessi.

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 06:24 PM
Paire is lucky he won that first set. He's such a ridiculous player but I still like him a lot. A lot of shotmaking ability.

07-05-2011, 07:52 PM
Riba struggled

Pere Riba-Madrid - Matteo Trevisan 6-4 3-6 7-6(3)

07-05-2011, 07:56 PM
Matteo was a break up in the third.

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 08:02 PM
Paire def. Raditschnigg 7-6(4) 6-4

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 08:03 PM
Trevisan was up a break three times in the third set.

Physical match, quality was good at times, some long points. Ultimately Riba won by being more solid and hitting good first serves.

Filo V.
07-05-2011, 08:06 PM
Trevisan does have the talent the Italians say he does, but he's also not as good as he's been labeled as being. He moves great and has some pretty good shotmaking ability, a serve that has potential, but he hasn't yet put everything together.

07-05-2011, 11:09 PM
Come on Andrej, win a match at last.

07-05-2011, 11:36 PM
I'm just happy for Albot :p  :bs:

07-06-2011, 01:16 AM
Lorenzi def. Martin 6-7 7-5 7-6

07-06-2011, 07:13 AM
Martin lost another close second set, this time he gave a real fight in the third, guess what, lost an important tiebreak AGAIN this year, get your shit together, man :(

07-06-2011, 01:54 PM
berlocq crushed diez 6-3, 6-0

07-06-2011, 01:58 PM
Giannessi def. Viola 6-4 7-5

The last game was epic. Viola missed 11 break points in the second set.

07-06-2011, 02:05 PM
Ungur bagels Volandri in 19 min.

Volandri just won 4 points in the first set.

Volandri 0-6 0-0*

Giannessi def. Viola 6-4 7-5

The last game was epic. Viola missed 11 break points in the second set.

Quite a good run this Giannessi is on. Climbed hundreds of places of the ranking in the last months.

Ad Wim
07-06-2011, 02:14 PM
berlocq crushed diez 6-3, 6-0

Lol, he was 3-1 down.

07-06-2011, 02:18 PM
No, he went up 2-0 in the first set, then Diaz won 3 games in a row, then Berlocq won 10 games in a row.

07-06-2011, 03:38 PM
Ungur def. Volandri 6-0 1-6 6-4

Weirdo match. I'm happy for Ungur, he' more talented player than Volandri.

07-06-2011, 03:46 PM
Well done Adi :yeah:

07-06-2011, 08:11 PM
Paire 4/6 6/3 6/2 after being down 4/6 2/3* I believe.

Some fantastic shots in the third set including a winning tweener after Mektic made a dropshot :D

07-06-2011, 08:14 PM
He was down 4-6 1-3 and won 9 games in a row. Played great and funny third set.

Filo V.
07-06-2011, 08:27 PM
Pippo just can't beat Ungur. It's so disappointing and sad. Today he seemed to fight very hard, and still lost. And in Italy as well. I knew he would lose, but to lose in that way, especially having 6 break points and not breaking in the third, is heartbreaking.

Filo V.
07-06-2011, 08:29 PM
Ungur is able to attack Pippo's serve and he hits the ball harder than Pippo, plus he moves well. So, Pippo really doesn't have much to go to in that match-up. Very disappointing last two weeks in Italy for Pippo, where he shines.

Filo V.
07-06-2011, 08:57 PM
Good win for Benoit, but he shouldn't be struggling with someone like Mektic. Hopefully he can win this event, and get much needed ranking points.

07-07-2011, 10:06 AM
Hopefully Paire will take out Riba :yeah:

07-07-2011, 01:38 PM
Allez Paire! Irregular game yesterday, but he wins, and now vs Riba, interesting match i think.

07-07-2011, 03:12 PM
I hope Paire and Giannessi can win.

I'm disappointed with Pippo, still keep an image of him as a regular top 50 player... On some days I think he should be back there with not that much effort, but then he shows up like this week or last week.

07-07-2011, 05:07 PM
Lorenzi what an irregular guy.

He was leading 63 *21 later on was down 63 36 23* but he won it 63 36 75.

Filo V.
07-07-2011, 08:51 PM
Pippo isn't top 50 quality anymore, unfortunately. I think most of his fans have already accepted this, I know I have. He's a 70-110 type now and he's vulnerable against most players these days. As long as he can maintain top 100 these next few years, I'll be happy.

Filo V.
07-07-2011, 08:53 PM
Lorenzi has a real garbage game, but I respect his fighting.

Ungur v Di Mauro, a shotmaker vs a grinder/moonballer. Should be pretty interesting.

Charly is tired as heck but his groundstrokes have improved SO much from where they were before. He's got legitimate ATP shots now, and his serve has improved. Vagnozzi is playing pretty well, he's like a lesser version of Cipolla in many ways.

Filo V.
07-07-2011, 09:35 PM
Charly just hit a serve 206 KMH

I didn't know he could hit in the 130 range with his serve.

He still lost the point, though :p

Filo V.
07-07-2011, 09:46 PM
This match is high intensity stuff. Charly met his match in a fighter with Vagnozzi.

07-07-2011, 09:51 PM
Charly fought as expected bu Vagnozzi pulled it out in the end.
It's ok, Charly needs some rest.

Filo V.
07-07-2011, 09:51 PM
Vagnozzi won 6-2 7-6(5)

Hit an amazing passing shot off a S&V from Berlocq to win the match. Very entertaining match. Charly doesn't lose challenger matches like this often so this is a great effort from the miniature Italian.

Filo V.
07-07-2011, 09:52 PM
True, Smoke, this loss is a blessing in disguise for Charly. You could tell he was playing on fight only. Definitely needs rest.

07-07-2011, 11:45 PM
Simone Vagnozzi (ITA) d. [1] Carlos Berlocq (ARG) 6-2 7-5
[7] Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) d. Juan Pablo Brzezicki (ARG) 6-3 3-6 7-5

[6] Benoit Paire (FRA) d. Nikola Mektic (CRO) 4-6 6-3 6-2
[2] Pere Riba (ESP) d. Alberto Brizzi (ITA) 6-3 6-3

07-08-2011, 02:50 PM
At the moment, the match between Riba-Paire is very interesting. Good points in the first set.

Filo V.
07-08-2011, 03:13 PM
Pere is simply too solid for someone like Paire. Paire is an error machine and isn't really a tennis player. He just hits the ball. Pere serving at 39% and still won the first set, bad sign for Benoit.

Filo V.
07-08-2011, 03:22 PM
The net broke in the Riba-Paire match.

Filo V.
07-08-2011, 03:32 PM
Paire needs to really improve his second serve. Getting attacked constantly. Pere deserves credit, he's playing aggressive and taking it to Benoit.

Filo V.
07-08-2011, 04:20 PM
Riba 7-6(3) 7-6(4)

More solid player won. Simple as that. Also Benoit's serve percentage wasn't good enough and Pere took advantage. Very clear result, but disappointing for Paire. Still has a long way to go to be a factor.

07-08-2011, 06:00 PM
Galvani def. Giannessi 6-4 3-1 ret.
Ungur def. Di Mauro 7-6 7-6

I hope Ungur can win this event.

07-08-2011, 06:08 PM
Ungur, one of these who lose in R1 or count for the win :p

Pity about Giannessi's thigh injury.

Filo V.
07-08-2011, 06:22 PM
I'm rooting 100% for Pere, and only Pere.

07-08-2011, 09:51 PM
I think Ungur vs Riba is the real final

Come on Adi win it :yeah:

07-09-2011, 08:11 PM
Ungur def. Riba 6-1 7-5

Nice win for Adrian, hope he wins it tomorrow.

Keyser Soze
07-09-2011, 08:54 PM
Great win for Ungur, he played excellent and Riba was helpless on return, only 3 unconverted BP in 8 games.

07-09-2011, 09:26 PM
Ungur :woohoo:

Take the title now !!!

07-09-2011, 09:37 PM
Every time I watch Ungur play I wonder why he isn't in the top-100.

Filo V.
07-09-2011, 09:39 PM
SOOOO true, Smoke. IMO, Ungur is better than the majority of the clay players at the back end of the top 100.

He also can play a little on HC, which makes him someone who really should be doing better than he is.

07-09-2011, 10:23 PM
Galvani def. Lorenzi 7-6 6-3

Galvani vs. Ungur in the final.

07-09-2011, 10:24 PM
After beating Volandri,Di Mauro and Riba, Ungur should have no problems in the final against Galvani but you never know...

07-10-2011, 08:13 AM
Go Adrian

Good luck to Stefano as well though.

07-10-2011, 09:05 AM
oh my goodness 1,70 odd i have on ungur

07-10-2011, 09:47 AM
it wont be straightforward, you have seen the h2h?

07-10-2011, 03:23 PM
Great week for Galvani, let's see what he can do today.

07-10-2011, 07:51 PM
Great hold for Galvani.

Keyser Soze
07-10-2011, 09:23 PM
Ungur won it!
7-5 6-2 the final score :bounce:

07-10-2011, 09:24 PM
Very well deserved, congrats to Adrian.

07-10-2011, 09:25 PM
YEAH UNGUR :woohoo:

Excellent played in the entire tournament

Keep up the good work :yeah:

07-10-2011, 09:26 PM
Good week, congrats to him.
Galvani didn't play his best today but it was nonetheless a great week for him.

07-10-2011, 09:40 PM
Very easy, but it was expected tbh. Grandpa Galvani would need much luck ;)

Filo V.
07-10-2011, 10:29 PM
Ungur was simply too good for Galvani, especially with the BH DTL and some great returns. Wasn't an amazing quality match but Ungur got the job done. Great week for him.
