The Tipsarevic show

He must be bipolar. First he complains with the supervisor because he wants to keep playing, then he complains because play isn't suspended. Lost his cool and Seppi took the chance.

Greatest match ever.

Seppi gets set and break, thought of winning title comes into head, loses set.

Tips has momentum, thought of winning title comes into head, starts arguing with umpire about light and falls apart.

Seppi *30-30 4-0, rainbreak, chance of winning title comes into head, gives back doublebreak.

....and then the injury end.

The third set was just one long, rain delayed, cringe inducing Tipsarevic tantrum.

After taking the second, in which Seppi's level had dropped and he had recovered from a break down, he just needed to keep his cool. He was told play would continue, he should have accepted it. Shame he slipped at the end but then retiring after all that nonsense just seemed classless. It's a shame, I like Janko and wanted him to win his first title.

Congrats to Seppi, he played really well for a set and half and kept his head despite the circus show at the other end of the court.

what happened? :(

1st set Seppi was in control, played great. Starts the same in the 2nd, gets a break up and then falls apart. Tipsarevic was playing well.

3rd set, well, where to start. Tipsa clearly with the momentum on his side, wants to stop playing cause of darkness. It was NOT dark, but he has issues playing night matches, he doesn't see well and the idea of him losing the match because of that got to his head and he wouldn't let it go. Stubborn and unreasonable as hell but what can you do. He tried to convince the supervisor but didn't work. His argument was that his match against Ward was suspended at the same time on Monday and that the SB was "shining":)

And while Tipsa was having his tantrums Seppi picked himself up and went up *4-0. At that point Tipsa was clearly out of it, he was ready to give it away right there just bashing every ball, walking side to side on the return, he was gone and the match could have been over in 3 minutes. But then the umpire stops play cause of few drops of rain. Then Tipsa totally got crazy (you can see the irony) especially cause there wasn't that much rain and everybody was expecting them to play on.
15-20' min break, Tipsa comes back in a better mood, gets on serve and at *3-4 0-30 slips, falls and tears his groin, in pain, angry as hell calls the mto and again wants to stop and resume tomorrow...

"What else does it have to happen for you to suspend play? It rained, it's dark, the court is slippery,...what else does it have to happen?!"

Again nothing, he had to continue, but he was limping around, could hardly move and was broken there, then just walked off at 3-5 0-15...

Well I lost more respect for Tipsarevic reading this. After a good and long match you don't retire the last game like that unless you can't even stand.....and tbh even if he couldn't stand/see or whatever he was not the guy serving anyway so he could 3 serves go past/bash them in the net.

Seppis first title and a big moment and he made it about him instead and ruined the ending. Seems like he should be sent for a course in sportsmanship. I have no doubt we will see a healthy Tipsarevic ready for Wimbledon in just days so he should be ashamed for the ret. and ATP should honestly give fines for such crap. It can be used for fixing as well because a match ending in retirement is money back for the gamblers instead of win/lose according to the odds

and, i discovered why there is such a huge difference between Novak and Janko. Novak finished that match. :yeah: and, he is a Serb too. ;)

One is Novak :)

As I said, that was a slap to organizers.

Seppi won, more than deserved.

But, frankly, it is not biased like others said.

Wasn't a changeover, it's when they came back on court after the rain delay. To be fair at the time the umpire, Seppi and the line judges weren't even on court though.

Tipsarevic is such a wanker... I'm risking to sound Serbopfobian (if this is a word), but what is wrong with Serbian tennis players? They are either fakers, nationalists or homophobes. Is there one who is classy?

been accused of being a Serbophobian in the past but the history is for all to see (you forgot Jankovic - Diva "i shouldnt be playing on court 18 because its too far away for me")

they certainly dont provide much to be proud off, but watch Serbian tv shows - they love their ppl like this

the newest pain in the arse, Andrea Petkovic who has a Bosnian background, as some others pointed out, always acting like a clown... trying to be a female Nole who you might guess - she adores

last week i watched Ivanovic playing in a womans event and was complaining about balls she was missing by 10 inches, so to try and cheat even more she started yelling out celebrations before her balls were hitting the ground

Typical dick move by Tipsarevic. This guy sucks so bad he can't even win one measly title. :rolls:

Hilarious ending to quite a good match considering the rubbish conditions.

Seppi winning a title isn't so unusual, just the fact he did it on grass, the ending was quite farcical. Shouldn't have gone off initially, then Gattuso slipping.

Gattuso will get his title and hahahaha to ones bitching about Seppi's title win. Sure it was a MM event, then again when Serra has 2 titles, so got to take the chances when on offer.

Seppi tried to choke just like he did against PHM in Gstaad final *5-3 in serving for the title, similar today but thankfully different result.

Action Jackson

Yeah, the first set and a half was good quality. That wind was very nasty, totally random, every direction.

It was excellent tennis considering how shit the conditions were. Seppi played 6 sets of tennis yesterday totally deserved his win. Good to see he was actualy hitting his forehand a lot of the time he smothers the ball when he doesn't quite get into position. The backhand was solid.

Definite hilarity involved, which is never a bad thing.

I feel like some REGULAR players, who aren't necessarily in the spotlights, shine on grass when the green season comes.
I will speak about French players first, such as Clement who reached several finals on grass (nottingham in 2007, Rosmalen in 2002 and 2003, or Mahut who is top 20 on grass and reached the Queen's Club final, or Newport's final in 2007. Llodra now who claimed the title in Rosmalen in 2004 and Eastbourne in 2010 (he has also reached Rosmalen's final in 2005). Santoro won Newport two years in a row (was it 2008 and 2009?). Speaking of regular players, I think Dechy, on the women's side, had pretty decent results on grass as well.In doubles Clement and Llodra claimed the title in Wimbledon.
Now, today, I've realized that Seppi (ATP) and Vinci (WTA) have just won the latest tournaments on grass. Seppi won in Eastbourne and Vinci claimed Rosmalen. It seems like regular players, who don't have the weapons to win Grand Slam titles, become a lot more dangerous on grass. I guess the surface makes it possible for them to challenge the better players. It all goes so fast... no rallys. You need to serve well and return well, and construct your points well. The surface will make for your lack of power.

He came back from double break down, then injured himself, he was so pissed he didnt think clearly any more. He had clear-looking lenses on at that time. It's been very windy at Eastbourne. If you're used to wearing glasses, or have sensitive eyes, your eyes can water a lot in those conditions, if you try to do without them. So I don't think it's necessary to criticise him for wearing glasses.

The rest of his behaviour is another matter.

Tipsarevic has retired when about to lose a match on a number of occasions.

I have commented on this before.

There is a gambling scam which arises from the fact that some bookies void bets if the match is not completed. A player can bet heavily on himself to win, and get his money back by retiring if he is about to lose the match.

Tipsarevic has retired when about to lose:

Eastbourne 2011: F Andreas Seppi (ITA) 51 L 6-7(5), 6-3, 3-5 RET
Roland Garros 2009: R32 Andy Murray (GBR) 3 L 6-7(3), 3-6 RET
Metz 2009: Q Gael Monfils (FRA) 13 L 1-6, 2-4 RET
Barc 2008: R64 Ernests Gulbis (LAT) 86 L 4-6, 2-4 RET
US Open 2007: R64 Rafael Nadal (ESP) 2 L 2-6, 3-6, 2-3 RET
Adelaide 2007 RR Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) 20 L 1-6, 2-4 RET

To name but a few. His name has also been linked to other matches with suspicious market activity on a number of occasions. I think he is a disgrace to tennis. I really can't understand why he hasn't been properly investigated. In light of the Dani Koellerer affair, surely it is time for the ATP to come down hard and get rid of this cancerous activity in our sport once and for all.

Most of these books are crappy little recreational books like William Hills/Ladbrokes/Paddypower/bet365/etc/etc/etc - you can only get large sums on by first losing lots of money to them. If you bet value, you find yourself with limits of 1 pence.

Pinnacle and betfair are valid after the 1st set, so you can't pull such a scam there.

This is ridiculous. The conditions are the same for both players. No one ever said the players had to be physiologically the same. Why don't we let Olivier Rochus return dropshots on a double-bounce? I know some people who came here as a students live and work for 50 years and still don't speak it regular).

As for Tipsy I can understand his anger but he's professional and shouldn't allow losing this way. He asked for supervisor to stop match at 7-6 3-6 1-0* complaining that he can't see well (and not because his glasses - he was wearing solid ones not dark), also giving example that umpire stopped his match ag. Ward at same time of day. Obviously they didn't want to stop there and he was annoyed cause of that, almost giving the match away hitting the ball hardest he could (spraying errors and winners). Ironically they stopped play at *4-0(30-30) because of slippery court (it wasn't raining!) and that really pissed him off even more. Didn't watch what happened after, but I guess Janko calmed down and tried to fight till the end before injury. I blame both the organizers and Tipsy for what happened. He surely knew that he can't fight anymore after injury and retired not to hurt Seppi but protest. Organizers prolonged his final match 1-1 and half hour comparing to his match ag. Ward.

For the match itself - it was quality affair till beginning of 3rd set. Seppi was very good on forehand and solid on backhand. I noticed some bad tactical decisions by Tipsy letting Seppi pass him several times with fh cc. Every time when Janko got shorter ball he approached the net hitting ball on Seppi's fh - who was ready to pass him :o

Anyway congrat's Seppi and his fans for maiden title. Tipsy will never won it till the moment he improve his childish behavior. And I'm afraid it's too late now.

Eastbourne needs to be cut from the tour. Big blip on Tipsys career. People will always speak of this. This tourney needs to be a challenger

Why? If some top 100 players want to get practice in the UK the week before Wimbledon, let them. It's also a big WTA event in terms of names so no reason it should be demoted.
