Convincing win from Marsel. 12 aces and didn't got broken throughout the match. Next Bellucci or Dimitrov.

it was a really good win for him and some very nice serving stats

the only part i hated was that he needed 5 match points to finally finish it off

Hajek is terrible on grass. This isn't really news

Ilhan on grass well, pure comedy, legendary jan Hajek on grass - no comment, there are no words to describe such an epic fail

Fuck you, Jan. So many blown chances. Wimbledon qualifying now.

Jan had 15-30 or deuce in almost all of Ilhan's serve games in the second. He kept having looks, but couldn't get in the door.

Believe me, Ilhan was incredibly generous to gift him 4 games in each set.

I expected Jan to lose, but since he had so many chances, the fact he didn't take any is disappointing, although I'm sure Marsel hit big serves on almost all of those points.

So, you're pissed at Hajek because Ilhan couldn't find his serve at times?

I mean c'mon.

Marsel seems to have really improved his serving. 49 aces in two matches in RG and 12 aces in this match. Not so long ago, he wasn't getting any free points off his serve. Maybe he can use this to spring back in to top-100.

I'm pissed because Jan had a lot of opportunities and took none of them.

he's got a good shot at getting back in if he can gave a good run here

ofcourse he has wimbledon to defend but i dont see a problem for him to defend most of that if he can keep this up

Marsel has a good shot at the QF. That whole section is open. I do think Grigor would beat him if they play, but who knows? He's got a good serve now, he must have trained very hard to develop that aspect of his game.

Marsel made MD last year in Wimby and went to the second round. He is not a joke on grass to say the least.

Ilhan is 6'3 and has a pretty good serve actually.

He is definitely under-ranked.

its definately just nice to see him finally winning matches on a regular basis after the awful start to his season

i think he atleast deserves to be top 100, somewhere around the 70-85 range

The match wasn't on a TV court, so can't have an accurate way of how it went. Whether if Ilhan served too well when needed and as Machi said, Hajek isn't a grasscourt player at all. He couldn't win in Prostejov, he isn't winning on grass.

You remember I said that same thing last year? I was like, he's top 100 where he belongs. But then he got in, and failed. So, I'm not sold anymore. I'll wait until he actually proves it on a consistent basis.

Underranked? Eh.

Your view of the guys ranked around 100 is incredibly obtuse and biased. It's only harmful for yourself though.

I thought Ilhan was a top 100 player, until the start of this year. Now, I'm not really sure what he is. What he is, is ultra inconsistent. When I look at the guys in the top 100 and guys ranked below him, I'm not too sure he's a consistent top 100 player.

But I said the same thing about Dodig and Ilhan has a lot of the same pedigree/fighting ability, so we'll see.

I'm more honest than biased.

He is maybe not too young but really new on the tour. He played his first full season in 2007 when he was 20. He is still getting experience on tour level. It's always tough to win tour matches consistently, you know. ;)

yes but i also know that it takes some time for guys to adjust to playing at this level on a consistent basis, you yourself have said the same thing about players before

he might also have been a little nervous..i think he had more pressure on him then normal to perform well and he didnt

he's improved already since the begginning of the year and i think he could hang around with these guys better constistently now

Well he's definitely improved his serve and I guess he's playing more aggressively now, let's see how here in Queens and then Wimbledon. Grass does suit his game. So yeah, I'll give him some time to prove himself completely before writing him off.

His baseline game lacks any weapon to hurt top-100 players; he's just solid off the ground. With the improved serve I think he'll fluctuate around 75-150. Anything higher is too much to expect imo.
