No, I'd say that the player who's won the most (16) of them is. You know, the one that at one point was in 16 of 17 consecutive finals.

maybe the guy who won his first 7 finals?

Roger won his first 12/14 slam finals. He lost 7 sets in the 12 victories.

Nadal is at 9/11 in slam finals right now. He's lost 8 sets in his 9 victories.

i will say just say this and leave it for sensible souls to take their pick,

once he has 6 best of 5 sets matches under his belt and enters the final, he fights like there is no tomorrow with whatever he's got......that itself makes him the best fighter.......

if we look further, we will notice that he has a record of 9-2 in slam finals all by barely at 24 years of age......if we are still not convinced and look a little further we will note who he has had to overcome in 6 of those 9 final triumphs......

good luck even making a meaningful comparison here......

It is impressing but I would not go that far. He mostly faced the same player. therefore the record is of limited value.
Once you have show that you can beat a certain player (Fed), only limited addional info is gained by repeating it.

Consider this. He would only play Fed for one year and go undefeated, would that show that he is the best player ever.

No.

(How is beating the so-called GOAT a negative? You can't claim "match-up problem" because Federer has a better record vs Rafa than most top 10 players have vs Rafa. Federer also has a freakishly dominant record vs left-handers. Rafa is simply beating the very best player in majority of his GS Finals. And Rafa beat Djokovic at the US Open, Rafa's worst surface according to many, and Djokovic's best or 2nd best surface)

I might get banned but unfortunately you are still the most annoying poster around here. You were 100% wrong about Madrid and Rome. Sadly that couldn't stop your spamming like there's no tomorrow.

BULLZ1LLA is just fan (optimistic one). I think understandable predictions for Madrid and Rome.

In the end Nadal hasn't "won" in the finals because of his style. It's Federer, Djokovic, Söderling, Berdych, Puerta that has lost to themselves in finals.

So thing is that when one of those players finds the way to play an error low game, like Djokovic has: Then Nadals final wins are over. When someone can handle topspin moonballs with both FH and BH they win when they play good always in their own hands. Djokovic can so if he is in the final on sunday he will win 100% if he reaches his normal level.

About thread... no. Kuerten's record is 3-0 at Grand Slam finals. When he didn't win Grand Slam he played at most QF.

He could be the Grand Slam final GOAT.
If it is any comfort him to not be the GOAT.

Nadal is at 9/11 in slam finals right now. He's lost 8 sets in his 9 victories.

Sampras won his first 13/15 slam finals. :) And total he have 14/18 pretty good if you ask me.

Federer was 10-1 at one point, so useless to discuss untill his career is done. And didn't Sampras retire at 14-4? I'd say that's more impressive.

( Rafa´s statistics will get worse when he starts facing a player ( or players) who can beat him in the finals. It´s only natural, happens to all of them. Rafa´s career doesn´t include a real decline so far, but it will inevitably come, in a way it´s already started. But so far he can´t be compared with players who are already retired.)

(He is the luckiest. Getting postpeak Fed or depleted contenders from 4-5 set semis. But yeah takes certain skill to take advantage of luck as well. moonballing skill!

(No but seriously he is like a freaking wall at times. Good for him but the kind of tennis I personally like can't happen with his style. The RG finals have been crap since Kuertens time and I'm not even sure I will watch the Final on Sunday. We'll see. Good luck to both)

The fact that he keeps getting Federer in the final does not hurt does it. It is good to have Del Potro back. He might restore order to the house. The Djoker can't do it all on his own.

lmao at nadal stans propping nadal up. It doesn't matter that he played FEDERER in 6 of those finals. DOES NOT MATTER. Feds the best possible match-up nadal could ask for in a final.

you mean "good luck to federer" Nadal needs no luck.

All he has to do is moonball the shit out of feds backhand, and everything else will take care of itself

Agree. We need more contenders, tennis is really boring with only 3 faces getting to Slam finals.

AO
Federer: 4
Nadal: 1

FO
Federer: 1
Nadal: 6

Wimbledon
Federer: 6
Nadal: 2

USO:
Federer: 5
Nadal: 1

I think these numbers clearly show who's the greatest (at least currently) GS final player in history. 60% of nadal's titles are on one surface. He hasn't defended any GS title off clay (or any title for that matter). He's without a doubt the best FO player in history, but certainly not the greatest overall GS slam final player, not even close yet.

yep he's 10\14 now. Just give it a few more seasons and it should get worse IF he can even get to the finals.

Federer is at 16\23 with 5 of those losses coming after he was in the 26/27yr old area.

Sampras is definitely the best finals player EVER. Nadal closely 2nd, Fed 3rd, Djoker may rise. Nadal having issues now with Djokovic losing 2 straight finals.. Fed losing finals on all surfaces to Nadal and having major mental issues against .. Doesn't help any of their cases

Winning % in finals always seems to discriminate against players who reach finals.

Certainly rather reach 14 finals and win 10 (Nadal) than reach 3 finals and win 3 (Kuerten).
