Ch Prostejov R2: Colonel Youzhny def. Hajek 6-3 6-3

Very bad result in general and Jan's ranking is going to plummet out of the top 150. Two time defending champion fails to go 3 in a row.

With that said, Misha played by a wide margin the best I've seen from him in months, and I think he's starting to return to form. He especially served and hit backhand slices very well. Quality of the match was better than either RG QF match currently.

This was worthy of match result thread? Might as well put the Seppi vs Navarro, Korolev vs Ramos, Stepanek vs Rosol as well.

Wasn't a bad match, but Hajek couldn't even turn on the Prostejov magic where he actually tries.

Got to feel for Hajek here, he was at the mercy of a top 20 player mixing his schedule up to try and get some form back. To Youzhny it's practice, for Hajek it's a lot more than that.

Neither player played that well. I don't feel sorry for Hajek, he has won this event 3 times. Didn't play well enough to get the job done.

Yes AJ, it was worthy because it's Youzhny and he's a top 20 player, also because I had a couple of people wanting me to keep them up on what's going on in this challenger.

I thought Youzhny played well. I didn't think Jan played badly either, he just made tons of errors. He hit the ball well and hit good serves, but lacked consistency.

I think he would have beaten most of the other players in the draw for sure.

don't see what the problem is, there was a poll and most people said that they either don't mind or endorse challenger results in GM

I like the challengers but is Youzhny winning a match at a challenger big news? He should be winning if he's serious.

Arsen, I know I voted yes on that poll.

i just think that anyone from the top 50 should be banned from challengers, i mean they dont need to play these tournaments as badly as other guys do, its not fair

I think based on the fact he's so high ranked, the way he's been playing, and the fact he's playing a guy who has won this event 3 times, and this being a big challenger, lastly with both RG matches currently being blowouts, yeah, I think it was worthy of a thread. Especially since he was so horrible on Monday, this match was unpredictable.

Oh, and I 100% agree in general, Misty. I hate ATP players winning the big challengers, like they usually do. They don't need the points and money.

Unlucky draw for Hajek.
Looking forward what will Youzhny do with his draw.

I think only top 30 players should be banned from challenger. Filo has right, they really don't need these points and money. :awww:

Of course top 50 players are banned from challengers. They can play only with a wild card.

You people make it sound if it was happening every week and in every challenger, but it happens a few times a year during the second weeks of slams, or sometimes when someone wants to play an event in his country or in some very big and rich challenger which wants to contract a star so they pay an appearance fee. Szczecin, Bergamo and Dnepropetrovsk used to do that.

This is it and there is thread about top 70 and challengers which I bumped.
