Calendar Slam achievement?

Novak is a pretty good clay courter, he's reached the semis in Wimbledon and the finals in the US Open. If Novak wins the calendar year grand slam this year (bringing his total to 5), would that instantly vault him into the top five players of all time, even though he has less majors than the rest? Would that instantly make him greater than Roger and Rafa because he's would have achieved something not done in over 40 years?

There's no way that would make him greater than Federer or Nadal, especially as both of them have career Slams.

As remarkable 4 in a row would be in a SINGLE calendar year, it's not enough of a record to make him >>> than whatever Nadal/Federer has already accomplished, he'll have to do a lot more than that.

On the faster surfaces Novak won't be able to retrieve so many shots, Fed could take him out

Yeah, I had Federer on my list earlier this year to get Wimbledon as his only slam this year.

It could be possible if Djokovic has adjusted to grass. But I see him adjusting next year.

Could be...I'll be interested to see him at Wimbledon. He's always had problems with slipping on the grass, but his game has always been great enough to go far there a few times.

Definitely wouldn't go above Roger or Rafa, that's what career consistency and longevity is for. He'll be definitely down in record books as one of the best seasons ever though

Some people can't read the topic description...OP is saying IF.

Anyway, if he manages to get the Grand Slam and ends up with somewhere around 10 slams at the end of his career then yeah I would consider him in top 5 ever..

If he made the calendar slam this year, Its hard to imagine hime stopping there so I think he would definitely be greater than Nadal.

A better question would be: "Would that instantly give him the best season in tennis ever"? Yes I'm inclined to say so. If he wins the french now the streak will be amazing and also prolonged with more easy round 1-4 in the next tournament he plays. He would also be world nr1, have a good shot at the most ranking points ever in a season, the best win/loss ratio ever (duhh!) and the most money made in a season among other things.

Surely some stat geek that can dig up some amazing season way back but factoring in the competition and physical requirements of modern tennis you have to think that Djokovic got a shot at the most amazing season ever. IF he wins the 4 slams and sets the longest win streak record it is pretty much a given

Unlikely, as Djokovic will skip the mug grass tournament called Wimbledon.
