Stop clowning around Verdasco! Something was definitely wrong with Verdasco in that final set, however it did not determine the outcome of the match; his clowning around did as he should have won that second set TB as Ivan was beginning to choke and he was up a break in that 3rd set. Completely useless vs big servers as he does not know how to position himself to return them properly.

Good on Ljubicic, though. Never really cared for him, though when is he going to give it up? Already 32 and he clearly isn't Andre Agassi either.

Not bad I think. Now we don't have to worry about getting another Wawrinka/Federer bend over type match in the making.

Ljubicic plays against him better on hard court than in clay. I think this math will be Nadal coming out in 4.

When his results suffer? He won Indian Wells last year and I don't think anyone deserves to retire after making the 4th round of a slam in their 30s

Just amazing play by the legend. Verdasco on the other hand is just pathetic. He should've at least show some effort and hard work on the third set to stay in the game. But looks like he doesn't even care, didn't go to the net when volleying but just standing there. Man I think the losses and failures he has this year just took away a lot of his spirit.

AncicCilic
05-28-2011, 06:37 PM
Ljubo has somewhat changed his character in last few years, seems to enjoy tennis more and knows exactly what he wants to do on and off the court. I reckon it has to do with calm and good family life, has a kid etc. Also, after winning IW 2010 he has absolutely nothing to prove and can just play for his own pleasure and that shows.

With that said i see no reason he should retire, he is still in top 50 and beats even top 10 players from time to time, passing few rounds on slams and in masters tournaments so i hope he will stay around as long as he wishes and his body allows him. Young guys need to see how it's done. :worship:

I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

No, Ljubicic is a player who didn't win a bunch of slams or dominate the field, so it's easy for people to get nostalgic and love him when he's older. Rafa will not be this lucky because his success has brought him massive amounts of haters. Look at Roger, he's gone into Olderer Declinerer mode and yet he still has plenty of devoted haters.

He's an idiot with a girl like terrible attitude and whines after he loses. It doesn't help either how some people just because of his monster forehand don't see the limitations to other parts of his game and starts talking about him being top 10 material (even world number one? lol) after the fluke 2009 Australian Open performance. The truth is other than his forehand, the rest of his game is sub par and him losing just proves more and more of his supporter wrong.

05-29-2011, 03:33 AM
^^ Given that he spent a good chunk in top 10, I'm dying here over your indignation people consider him top 10 material. It's not material. He is/was a top ten player. End of. We might argue over what it takes nowadays to get into top 10, but that's beside the point for that matter. And let me say this one more time, a clown with sig like yours complaining about hype is absurdity Monthy Python Circus would be proud of.

And Brad Gilbert said he was the future and Pete Sampras said he could win a major but as far as I remember such statements were laughed off by MTF.

No need to get so worked up and use those silly emoticons. You asked the question why everybody's so hard on him for this loss so I gave you an honest answer. What sort of answer were you expecting? "What an upset losing to Ivan Ljubicic. It's Ivan's lucky day that got him through. Verdasco is capable of so much better I'm sure he'll rebound back someday because he's such a talented player"?
