Hawk eye is sometimes faulty when balls skid. Balls leave a noticeable mark on the clay so umpires always know when it's out or not.

The ball leaves a mark in the clay, so there is no need for HE at tournaments which are played on clay.
There is some discussion about that though, as sometimes it's difficult to point out the right mark on the clay.
