There's nothing to figure out, it's all quite simple, his interpretation of this game is just crap, so no matter with what result he wins and how good does he execute his game on that particular day his game will always stay shit.

The organisers have made some suspect scheduling decisions in this tournament. And on clay no less, matches have a propensity to last longer. Consider the second set in the Nadal/Murray semi-final where despite it not going to a tie breaker it lasted 73 minutes.
