Nadal was still very poor. But it's unblievable how BAD Veic is :haha:

How on earth did this guy make it to round 3??

Nadal waas even broken twice by this poor player.. When you look at the score you think it was an good old thrashing by Nadal, but he was still very poor himself.

Sadly, Nadal didn't impress during this match.

Despite of the scoreline some of the rallies were unnecessarily long, Nadal just waiting for an error, missing the fire that used to have.

I'm now beginning to think that he may even struggle to reach the final – because what he shows is not grand slam material...

I think Veic folded so much because he's generally not used to this level and to this kind of an opponent, and mentally he was still at the Davydenko's match. I would more take it as a free lesson/practise to pay off in the future for the Croat. He is just a low level player with some potential who might benefit in the future but was not ready to make another step now ( = put a bigger fight).

Nadal wasn't that brilliant in that match at all.

I think people are looking for some signs Nadal can raise his level - which he didn't show today, and that's why the comments are as they are. If he'd played two great matches previously, people would just write this one off. It's a similar situation with Federer, I think.

Well the score was convincing but Nadal still wasn't entirely his best.

Not sure if Ljubicic or Verdasco will be a huge test - the guys that do well against Nadal are the big hitters who move well. Ljubicic can hit big and I think he could challenge Nadal, but I think Rafa will be able to move Ivan around the court semi-easily. Verdasco of course can't beat Rafa, we know their H2H.

Like I said, if this guy was 6'5, he'd be a bigger threat than he is today.

Veic was terrible, surely he didn't play like this in the first two rounds? How does this guy win points? He's got absolutely zero weapons, crap forehand, pathetic serve, his backhand is pretty good at times, I'll give him that. Really should have been a triple bagel if Rafa could've kept his focus.

Rafa, another step forward. His footwork was very good, which shows his confidence is growing. He was dancing around his backhand like in the good old days. Had a terrible patch in the beginning of the 2nd set, he can't allow this to happen in the bigger games. Otherwise he'll be 4-0 down in no time, like in Madrid vs. Djokovic.

Ljubicic next, no danger there.

Not as good as it can be, had a couple unexplainable misses with it, the one on break point in the second set was the worst. Dominated Veic and had the court at his mercy, to fire it at least a foot wide.

He did use his forehand DTL a lot in the first set, which is a confidence shot for Rafa, so that's a good sign. It went away in the 2nd set when he lost his focus and played some very sloppy tennis. I had to go at the beginning of the 3rd set, but judging by the scoreline it looks like more of the same (of the first set).

Overall he still didn't dominate as much as I liked him to, did quite a bit of running at times. But really, I don't think much can be said after this match, it was like a training session. Veic was that bad.

After seeing nadull getting broken twice by a no weapon mug,,I'am fairly certain Novak will be crowned the new RG champion.

There has been absolutely no doubt about it for a loooooooong time already. :) :) :) I told them to give the cup to Novak before RG started already. :D

Well, at least a convincing scoreline this time!
Didn't see all of the match, just bits and pieces but I think it's fair to say that this result tells as much about Rafa's form (still very questionable imho) as did Fed's result against Teixeira: close to nothing. It's nice for these journeymen to get that far in a GS tournament, but of course they have no business in playing the real stuff. One can only wonder how-the-hell did Davydenko manage to lose to this fellow?

Congrats Rafa, one match at the time... :rocker2:

6-1 6-3 6-0? Very clever of Nadal to plant seeds of doubt in Federer's mind this way. :aplot:

Nadal needs to plant seeds of doubt in the mind of the Serb.

Nadal is far from his usual level on clay, doesn't seem like this time he'll reach Borg's record... though Rafa in RG is Rafa in RG, and anything may happen as long as he's around.

His problem isn't only Djoko's phenomenal streak, his game is uncharacteristically weak, no BH, flimsy serve, many of his best forehands go wide, his mind seems more fragile than usual.

So he may not make it to the title, even the final. Yet we should remember that he is the same guy who only 8 months ago put Djokovic to the sword in NY, arguably his worst surface and the Serb's best, and that despite his subpar game he's making more finals and ranking points than anyone except Nole. That means that he'll sooner or later recover his game. I'm convinced that we are still some years away from the end of his watch and that he is likely to retire with more RG than Borg, plus a couple more wins in slams on other surfaces than clay.

Veic was awful in the first three sets. Then, he started to play better.

someone is going to humiliate rafa in one of these rounds the way he is playing.

if he makes the final by some miracle, he will get triple bageled.

screw the scoreline, veic was pushing rafa around.

Still very shocked that Davy lost to this guy Veic...

Well, Rafa keeps moving on, Ljubicic next, hoping to watch Rafa/Soderling rematch in QF.

The match means little to nthing for Rafa. Veic is nothing but a waterboy here and beating him to the ground wont gain him any confidence heading into the big rounds. It's expected. Veic is a poor mans Monaco. An ordinary player who lacks imaination and is a prototype player for the era. Honestly what was the idiot thinking when he tried to outlast Rafa from the baseline with his pitiful groundies. Squashed like a freaking ant.
