Before the Djokovic-Del Potro match, the majority here were haters and said Delpo's a ballbasher and Djokovic will school him easily. Now, after today's play, they have a completely different opinion about Del Potro and his game. Haven't you known about his mental toughness and talent? Why can't haters just be quiet after things aren't going the way they tipped? I mean, I tipped Djokovic to take this in 3 or 4, but I supported Delpo all the time. I still think Djokovic will win this because of his mental level, but Delpo makes it tight.

I think people like to troll.

But yes, people here forget fast. I bet if Nole lost they'd forget his all streak and write he's finished now and will never regroup.

I wouldn't pay much attention to it :).

Tennis fans are amazingly short sighted - at least some of them on here can be.

They see a player playing at one level and project that forward indefinitely, completely ignoring the history of tennis - which is that players rise and fall, shocks happen, the unexpected is inevitable, and a good player playing bad can on any given day lose to a bad player playing good.

This is because they've never seen Delpo play.

Anyone who's seen him play can see why he is so lethal, and why, potentially he could become #1 if he stays injury free.

Djokovic will beat Del Potro because of his mental level? WTF?! at 1-2 15-40 Djokovic makes a double fault to give pony the break. At 5-3 15-40, Del Po hits 4 unreturnable serves to clutch out the set. How the fuck is Djokovic ahead of the argentain in the mental department?

i've always thought delpo is a sissy and a ballbasher with limited talent. then again, since the draw came out, i immediately thought pony would beat fako in RG.

both things ain't self exclusive.

In the MTF world one player always have to be the mug/pusher/ballbasher/choker or what not.

Novak was never just gonna walk over Del Potro. Those who said that probably started following tennis in 2010 or later.Everyone should know by now that Delpo is a great player. He has a slam beating the top players back to back. He has pushed Fed to 5 sets on the clay of RG.

Sure then he got injury problems but even this year he's shown promise beating Soderling in a good match on clay. He was always a big threat for the R3 and he had been that to all other top10 players as well.

Novak struggling with Del Potro doesn't take away anything from him either as Djokovic fans should understand. His true ranking is right up there in the top10. If he had a higher ranking he would obviously not play a top seed in R3 and we wouldn't have had all this underestimation going on

Mental level? They are both strong mental level,
only Djokovic have the 39 wins this year so feel untouchable for now. Remember also Del Potro has not enough match played because was injured.
Many poeple forget the history, do not think of injury and match plays which the players need and the off court training they players must do and cannot do if injury, when they post, this why they opinions change quickly:wavey:

JMDP is the definition of a ball basher. He bashes the ball incredibly hard, but that is his style. He won the US Open by just overpowering everybody by hitting it so hard.

But if it works surely thats what counts. Nadal's game to many is not very pleasing, but it works exceptionally well so hard criticising it as it works.

delpo doesn't suit novak at all. when playing at the top of his game, its hard to move him around because he can stretch and bend to return the tough balls, and just wait for a setup for that killer forehand.

Novak will have to hit better angles tomorrow, mix it up with some top spin (that's how Nadal saved his ass in Miami or Cinci, cant remember). If you get into his rhythm, delpo will kill you. The break will definitely suit Novak more, to try adjust his game plan.

They're stuck in an infinite loop. They know their opinions suck and they keep changing it once the suckiness is apparent.

I only said Djokovic in 3 because of del Potro's supposed lingering injuries. The guy has won a slam, knocking out Federer and Nadal en route so I know he's talented. After today, I'm not surprised (well, a little ) that del Potro managed to take a set. If anyone were to take one from Djokovic (or even win), del Potro would definitely be considered a guy who could do it.

Djokovic had some lapses, some dips in focus and del Potro pounced and stayed consistent enough to take the set...and even valiantly saved a few break points with some aces. del Potro has definitely showed that he won't be a walk in the park.

I still think Djokovic is going to win because he can use this break to regroup and rethink some of the tactics he employed today. He KNOWS he can win; it's all he's been doing this year. It's just one of those classic moments where a champion has to show everyone what he's really made of, and he's done it enough this year to be able to summon that fighting spirit of his.

I agree. But it's interesting to see some guys over here on MTF stating that they were never in doubt that Djokovic will take it while they tipped Delpo.....

Del potro is not Bal basher necesserely, just because he hits hard? He does that as a quality because he is so tall and moves well, he is able to hit flat with pace consistently, but he is not a brainless ballbasher. He is an agressive, gutsy baseliner. No Ballbasher only will make it to the top 10, that's silly.

Is amazing that a guy like Del potro gets so much criticism for his style while a guy like Safin who basically had the same mentality, to just overpower the opponent, is consider so talented, because he strokes are prettier.
