Almagro basically had leads in the final three sets. But did he choke? Somewhat, but not totally. I don't like Kubot, but today I really did like the way he played when behind. He played a great final three sets by going for broke, being very aggressive returning and from the baseline, volleying beautifully, covering the net extremely well, and serving intelligently when it mattered. He really was the better player at the end, whereas Nicolas was tentative and allowed Kubot to take the initiative.

With that said, he can't keep this up. So that's why I can't ever see myself being more than a fleeting fan of his. But he deserves full credit for the victory today. He simply wanted it more than Almagro.

This is just to perfect to be true. What a comeback by Kubot. Truly amazing! I would call it the best win of his carrer. I know that Roddick back in Bejing was higher ranked, but this is RG, he had to comeback from 0/2 and he had to do it against one of the best players on clay.
It's also great that it was against Almagro, the player that I really hate. The biggest prick on the ATP tour.
Kubot let's not stop. Let's beat Berlocq, what you actually did already once 3 weeks ago in Madrid!

Robert yesterday and now this. Another gloriously awesome result. (If only Isner had pulled off a miracle.)

As for this match, don't like Almagro very much. He has a good game but it doesn't show up when it really counts. Having said that, he's always scraping through 5 setters in the early rounds of slams so it's shocking to see him actually lose one, especially from 2 sets up. Great win for Kubot though! He'll like his chances for the next match.

More importantly though for me, this opens things up for Melzer and Mayer, 2 of my favorite players. Hopefully they don't catch the upset bug too

Loses to this circus clown?. There goes any hope of the highly anticipated showdown between him and murray playing 5 epic sets into darkness at lenglen.

bizarre. Kubot is an atrocious player who thrives of energy. His shots look out of place and awkward. I mean for heavens sake he dresses like a 15 year old junior playing a sunday tourney. No way in hell Nico should be losing to him.

Almagro plays so many epic matches in Grand Slams.

Almagro won 19 more points, hit 69 winners and made just 23 unforced errors. 3/1 ratio.

Just a scoreboard disaster. Should've won it in 3, then after losing the 3rd set tiebreaker, he's obviously more tense in the 4th set tiebreaker. Then he's mentally exhausted in the 5th. Got to feel for him, he would've been much better off losing the 3rd set 6-3.

The really annoying thing is that he had a good draw too.
