Who do you think will reach the QF out of the mess of the 7th quarter?

He's 33 years old ....

How far would this guy go after he knocks off 19th-seeded

I still can't believe on it

Cilic lost more than RRH won.

He plays Montanes next, so that's the end of the road.

Won't beat Monty tbh.

He will go further than Berdych.

Shouldn't, yeah. Monty is a bit crap this year but there's not much RRH does better.

I join, Montanes isn't Cilic, he won't make 70 UEs during three sets... No chance for RRH. But I guess this match won't be too easy, around 4-5 sets. Except for if Montanes plays very well finally, then should be quite easy three.

this section really is a complete mess and totally wide open with berdych and cilic already having gone down

the players still alive are:

robert
fognini
ilhan
albert montanes
gullermo garcia lopez
ruben ramirez hidalgo
mikhail kukushkin
mikhail youzhny

now..youzhny is obviously the best player left of those that remain but he's been in crap form and montanes and GGL..the best 2 after him are also not in great form

it really does leave the door open for someone to perhaps make a deep run here and gain a ton of points

will one of youzhny, GGL or montanes step up and take advantage or will one of the other 5 come through?

personally(and i dread this) im thinking it will be kukushkin

Montanes for sure.

05-23-2011, 07:43 PM
Youzhny unfortunately... I was so hoping for a bad draw for him that he loses many points because he is so much overranked atm! But yeah he seems like he's always getting easy draws at Slams.

Fognini.

Kuku will beat Youzhny but he'll lose his R3 match. Montanes will lose to Fabio in R4.

I'd love to see Youzhny in quarters but he's been completely shit lately. I think it will be GGL

What's the difference, regardless who makes the qf will be added to Nole's cookies collection.

Montanes just has nothing lately, imprecise and no power.

GGL lost the consistency on the groundstrokes this year.

Youzhny spraying errors for 6 months, gonna be lucky to stay in the top40 by the end of the year.

Real chance for Fog. Would be fun if Robert went on a crowd-inspired tear too :-)

Robert would be pure awesome but really it'll be Montanes

05-23-2011, 07:49 PM
my pick by personal preference is ilhan..id love it for him but i just would also hate all the crap people would write about him around here and i also dont want to see him obliterated by djokovic

Fog would have won RG last year if Mugfils hadn't tired him out and the organizers hadn't conspired to get him out. this year is his year, expect an italian champ :yeah:

Montanes, surely?

Tough call. Either GG Lopez or A Montanes. It's clay after all.

Sonja1989
05-23-2011, 08:47 PM
Hope I see a Montanes - Garcia Lopez match in R4 then Montanes plays QF. Youzhny doesn't have a good form but Montanes has to play better than in last months. It is Grand Slam, I believe he will finally.

it would be a catastrophe for tennis if anyone other than youzhny in that list would make it to the quarters no matter how bad his form is.

Acer

Youzhny

Luinir
05-23-2011, 09:49 PM
In Djokovic's quarters at the bottom half there is a really joke section.

Robert-Fognini
Ilhan-GGL
RRH-Montanes
Kukushkin-Youzhny

One of them will make the quarters against probably Djokovic.

Youzhny, GGL and Montanes have seeds but they are totally out of form. Robert played damn good tennis against Berdych. Fognini was just solid as usual against Istomin. Ilhan served great against Haas. RRH outplayed Cilic and Kukushkin took the trash (aKa Brands) out. Which one is going win this section?

Ibracadabra
05-23-2011, 09:53 PM
Misha is surely the best player on that list. Whether his brain allows him to get that far is another matter

GGL and Marsel will beat each other up to exhaust themselves for the 3rd round spot. Youzhny and Kukushkin are inconsistent and the former is out of form. With that said, this is an OPPORTUNE time for Montanes to take advantage if he's smart. I haven't seen his game in a long time, but you guys claim that he's out of rhythm. If that's the case he might choke away his chances. Foginini is a resilient player. Hmm, it's a toss up between Fog and Mont. I'm going to go with Montanes in the end.

Is it me??? Or does Djokovic often get a draw where the players on that half are HIGHLY likely to choke lmao...

It just seems that way sometimes. Well, this will be another Godsend bracket for him in which he MUST take advantage.

No clay threats like Melzer, Ferrer, Almagro, or anything of that nature at all. He'll have to win this Roland Garros or feel like his time has been wasted.

We'll have a new Gabashvili this season. Fognini has a lot of talent, I'd like him to finally utilize it, but I can predict an ordinary lack of showing.

Youzhny would deserve to go through, he's way the best... too bad he's so off shape. But at least this is the name which means something.

Can you care to comment on what his strengths and weaknesses are?

I've only seen him in the Monfils match I believe last year, where he won in a 5 set thriller.

He seems like an aggressive baseliner that's willing to take high % shots, though I COULD be wrong since my memory is skewed and it has been a ridiculously long while remembering any aspects of his game.

Best of luck to him. The more competitors, the better the sport.

Eh I wouldn't say del Potro in R3 is godsend. Bellucci, Gasquet and Hanescu have all played well on clay in the past few weeks.

Look at Federer's first three rounds, Lopez sucks on clay, French wildcard, Tipsarevic.

Let's not even mention Murray, qualifier, qualifier, Clement or Berrer, Dolgopolov or Troicki.

FFS Murray should make QF without losing any sets and 6 games per opponent. That's a cakewalk, godsend draw.

Soderling also has an easy draw, Becker, Spanish qualifier, Baghdatis, Simon or Fish.

And Berdych would have had a cakewalk til getting sent home from Novak's bakery if he had made it past Robert.

So, no, Djokovic's draw is not the easiest by a fucking country mile.

Man I wish Hewitt were fit enough to play Monty on Sunday. He hasn't seen a draw this good in years. Oh well, I'd love it if Robert or Montanes or RRH made the quarters but I don't see it happening. If Youzhny gets going then it's in his hands I reckon. If not, Fognini will fancy his chances.

^Yeah, finally a decent draw and he pulls out. Montanes on the other hand has been taking advantage of good draws in Grand Slams for a while now.
