Too easy for the German heavyweight.

thus, personally really stuns me, i had milos as a lock for the 3rd round

but berrer played some really nice tennis, not alot of unforced errors and milos was terrible on break point conversion and berrer also pretty much broke him at will

Milos now knows the feeling of shame. The troll brigade I'm sure already on their way to say the same nonsense they've been saying for the past six months.

Hopefully a learning experience

Michi I'm proud of you :worship:

One of the worst returners in the top 100 seemed to return Raonic's serve pretty easily, having broken him 4 times!

Clement/Volandri next, for sure winnable for him, too.

overhyped serve bot

Disappointing from Milos, but still he's won more than half of his clay matches. On to the grass season!

horrible. At least clay is behind him now

Berrer, what a beast.

05-23-2011, 07:33 PM
He's been struggling with back problems since IW - that would be my guess. 52% first serve today.

Was a bit of a questionmark for me over his schedule too, played all 3 masters, barcelona and estoril. Could perhaps have taken a week off, especially in Madrid.

Damn!

Murray's draw getting better though, not like he needed it any better, but still this is good

Very good performance and win for Michi!!!

Milos didn't serve as well today and usual, and as we've seen several times this year, if he serves below about 60%, he's vulnerable to lose against most guys. Berrer was very secure on serve throughout the match except set two. Both guys are serve oriented but Berrer is more consistent (if less powerful) off the ground, I'm guessing that made the difference.

Not a big surprise to me.

Raonic never had a chance against the Vice Kiing of Clay.
Milos should get some rest before grass and I hope he will make a mess in London.

First of many R1 losses at Roland Garros for this serve machine...

I guess Milos doesn't like the clay. Never mind, grass season next for him.

Gotta laugh at Murray's draw getting even easier

Probably came back to the earth a little bit after the unexpected wins early on during the clay season.

Does Murray have any bad match-ups before semis?

misty1
05-23-2011, 07:44 PM
dolgopolov is in murray's section..he's probably the only one who has a chance against him

troicki is to and playing well but he always collapses against the top players

05-23-2011, 07:49 PM
Viktor shown some nice tennis against Novak on last year's US Open, maybe he can do it again on RG :D But clay definitely isn't his surface, if he beats Dolgopolov, he'll probably be easily beaten by Murray :(

05-23-2011, 07:50 PM
He obviusly had some problems., otherwise no way barrer could have more aces then milos., and no way he could beat him.
I watched most of his matches on clay and he was playing great, surely enough for berrer.
Why not retire you mug and be fair to us., i hope your back will hurt you even more.
Retire??????????
what a day!!!!!

Always a pleasure when a serve bot lost. I have a lot of respect for him because he managed to make believe at his fanboys that he isn't a serve bot. Such an achievement.

Bolelli is in Murray's section, so an R3 will be a good effort for the Scot.

I thought after the great wins he had in MC and Barcelona that he would live up to his seeding but :(

At least now all eyes are on grass for Milos :D

NID.
Whenever this serve-bot can't rely on his serve to bail him out, he loses. Good for the game

Poor scheduling from Milos, oh well as long as he's ready for Wimby no one cares about the FO.

how ironic it would be if milos's highly anticipated grass season and wimbledon turned out worse then his clay season

philosophicalarf
05-23-2011, 07:55 PM
Well, he retired from Estoril with a back problem, then from doubles in Madrid with the same issue, and his Rome match was only 4 days after that.

If he had any sense, should have tanked vs Simon on the Estoril Saturday, with two matches scheduled for that day.

I thought this dry clay and new balls will suit his game more, but guess I was wrong. Couldn't be any worse at Wimbledon though.

Raonic will surely make a huge hit at Wimbledon. Not sure if QF, but hopefuly good run.

Nice to see the haters already out in full force

I guess their faves all started out their first full ATP season winning everything in sight, right? Never had any first round losses in slams or masters on their least favourite surfaces, did they? Reached #1 in the world and had already won a slam the first year they came on tour, right?

On to grass now, Milos, don't let the haters keep you off your grind :rocker2:

Well played Michi. Finally gets a first round win here... He must be favourite for the title now.

05-23-2011, 09:49 PM
I don't see Milos doing that hot on grass. He's already completely overrated now. People expect things out of him he's not capable of yet.

I read an article that stated he felt fit, so either he was keeping his injury cards close to the vest, or Berrer just beat him with his experience and solidity. Pressure is already high on this young man, hopefully he handles it well moving forward.

05-23-2011, 10:16 PM
why is everyone hard on Milos? isn't this his first season on clay? has he ever played on grass before as well?

Good learning experience for Milos. It's strange, I'm even more of a fan of him than I was before the match.. can't get enough of the way he goes about his business win or lose.

Arkulari
05-23-2011, 11:10 PM
The problem with Raonic is his ground game, he can easily win matches with S&V in medium-fast hardcourts/grass but it just wouldn't get things done on slow HC, clay and maybe even Wimbledon.

Good to see this Canadian Karlovic exposed for a clown he really is. He should work on his disgraceful groundstrokes and movement before trying to hang on the ATP tour :bigwave:

Berrer is a pretty handy returner.

No, I meant that serious. Somehow, he returns better indoors than outdoors. I remember a match against Gasquet last year at some NA hardcourt event, that he lost like 100% of 1st return points against him. And Gasquet isn't what you call a big server.
I remember we were also talking about his return abilities here on MTF? But I don't care atm, I'm just happy he finally won a GS match again (since AO 2010) and even on his worst surface.

MaxPower
05-24-2011, 06:21 AM
If you meant that serious I also disagree. Berrer is not a crap returner and one of the worst in top100. He is kinda big and strong and has the ability to get back even big serves. Saw him almost take a set of Soderling in Brisbane this year (when Robin was in excellent shape and didnt drop a set all tournament) and in Indian Wells. If only the movement was a little better. Bad draw for Raonic. I can think of a lot of R1 opponents where his heavy game would have paid off more.

I'm surprised by this. I admire the way Berrer swings his racket but I was sure I'd still be looking at the cuddly giant with the natural born killer's eyes in the second week. I thought he was going to return to Slay The World mode for this.

It's not that big of a deal, though. Milos is one of those players whose hype has worn out his welcome with me, anyway.
