Pretty good stuff, from what I saw, although Stepanek dropped his level after the break in the 3rd set. Nice last game, Gasquet actually going after forehands.

Radek was playing some nice attractive tennis in the first two sets. They don't call him sexy for nothing :)

Alllez Gasquet!! :woohoo:

Good 1st round win against a tricky player! I thought Gasquet got better as the match went on, the 1st set was a bit shaky, he missed some shots which he would not of in other matches. He saved 5/5 break points in the whole match and those 5 were in the 1st set! :)

Good result and he is in the 2nd round where he will either face Bogomolov Jr or Granollers where it's 1 set Granollers and Bogomolov leads 5-2 in the 2nd.

Tight first set (backhand wasn't working), then Richard rose his level. In the third, he was just toying with Radek !

He even hit a two handed backhand to hit back a smach, and ran around his backhand to hit a forehand !:D

:haha: at Wilander, who spoke about Stepanek getting under Richard's skin during the first set.

Who got under whose skin in the third?

That set was pure pleasure. :worship:

A very impressive performance from Gasquet. :yeah:
Entertaining match, too, until the 3rd set where it became one way-traffic. Steps just couldn't keep up with the brilliance of Gasquet.
Hope he keeps it going. :rocker2:

Richie should send a box of fine French chocolates to Berdych, he covered the two sets to love choke today, so Richie could take care of business and win in straights

All the more impressive because he did it with a backhand that was pretty much MIA for the first half of the match.

Steps has gotten under Gasquets's skin big time before and it was so nice to see Richard progessively take him apart and finish it with flair.

Hope this Gasquet stays around a long time.

What were Richie's Winners/UE ratio in the final set and also over all. Can anyone put it here, please?

Stepanek isn't in a point of his career to win this kind of match. However, he was very entertaining in the first two sets, as usual.

Steps did much better than I expected, given that Gasquet has been in form the clay season. He might have one or two good years in him in singles.

Richie :yeah:.

Good game from Gasquet. It will be interesting to see how long he can maintain this level. I'm not moving him into my Top Ten Must-Watch unless it's more or less permanent.

W/E 35-28 for Gasquet, 20-38 for Stepanek.

Steps outplayed Richie in the first set. Someone made a noise in the stands at 6-*5 40-30 and Radek double-faulted. Richie got progressively better in all departments as the match went on and played a great third set, but some of that has to do with the fact Stepanek really only had one and a half sets in him. He was mentally finished by the end of the second.

Overall, a great way to start the event for Richie. Liking the positive emotion he showed throughout.

I don't know about a decent run, he's got Djoko in his section, no?

It would be sweet if he can take him out...

It won't happen though.
I'm not even sure he'll get to play Djoko as he'll probably have to play Belluci before.
And even though he is inconsistent, the level showed by Belluci in Madrid was higher than anything Gasquet showed on clay since the beginning of his career so it might be a very tricky third round for Gasquet if it happened

4th Round is not a decent run on clay for Richard?

Anyway,well done,Richie!:yeah:
