The Panther too solid for the clay clown.

Vamos Charly! A bit more of a struggle than expected in the first sets, but deliverd. Welcome 45 points. Now give Almagro a scare.

I'm happy if Bernard wasn't making fool out of him self on the court

Another WC wasted. Someone should give Bernard a good spanking on his rear and show him the doors of Qualifying.

I think I heard Berlocq's grunting out here in Amsterdam.

Tomic should try out basketball, cause pushing when you're 6'4 is not the way to success in tennis :tape:

Best part was Tomic took the court wearing a shiny garbage bag tracksuit.

I'm not surprised by the closeness of the first two sets. I expected a close match. Charly did what was required and did a very nice job with his serve, and keeping the error count low. Tomic needs to improve his serve to get to the next level. Playing an experienced clay grinder certainly isn't ideal for Bernard but the experience will certainly help him going forward.

I still don't understand why they gave this wildcard to Tomic. They should gave it to Harrison.

And Tomic will continue getting WCs to all the big tournaments... utterly disgusting and unfair

neither one of them could really hold serve in the first set..

They should have given it to Munster instead of either of these mugs :wavey:

Harrison isn't Australian. They have an agreement between the French, US and American federations.

good for the game whenever this whiny brat loses:banana:
Even it is against one of the biggest clowns on the tour in Berlocq

Another waste of WC. :(

The WC is wasted but to be fair there isn`t anyone better out there from Australia to get one which shows in what poor state Australian tennis has been in the last years.

Not a disastrous scoreline. Tomic now has lots of time to prepare for grass events and he's got a pretty good record on that surface.

Such a dislikeable player/person. He makes Murray look humble

The point is that these WCs aren't doing him any good, he needs the toughening up and the experience of going through qualifying, to improve his game and see what's lacking, what's the point of playing 1531351 events with WCs if he's losing in the first round?

Going through the same Dimitrov was going a couple of years ago.

Tomic should retire for his fans.

I agree Tomic is a waste of a WC, but has Australia any player who could've won a match here? I'm thinking Luczak maybe but he's 31

I still don't understand why they gave this wildcard to Tomic. They should gave it to Harrison.

First, Harrison isn't Australian. It's the Aussie federation that gave the WC to Tomic, not the French. Second, I wonder if Harrison would have even accepted a WC to the French... Didn't he turn down the USTA WC tourney (for a shot at a French Open WC) because he wanted to play qualies?

As for this "wasted" WC... does anyone think any other Aussie would have done any better than Tomic in this match?

I was thinking the same thing but basketball might be too much physical contact for him. I was thinking on the lines of maybe netball.

I still don't understand why they gave this wildcard to Tomic. They should gave it to Harrison.

Roland Garros needs to give one wild card to an australian on the basis of reciprocation.

I understand TA has noone else to give WC to. But don't they see these wildcards hurt Bernard? With every year he is just worse and worse. They (and tournament directors) have to stop giving him cards AT ALL for Tomic's future sake

The Magician

Should have given the WC to the Gooch obviously. Barring that the Australian wildcard should be the more generic asian wildcard like the AO is the asian slam, and I can think of a few asian players who could have used the WC.

Not that I think a player losing is necessarily a good indication that they didn't deserve a WC, however Tomic has been getting too many and he might be the next Donald Young if the Australian federation doesn't watch out.

Bernard Tomic not only beat Chardy (solid top 50) but also Lopez (solid top 25) as well as also pushing Nadal at his last slam. he deserves more than anyone else i can think off. More so than any old journeyman

And Tomic has been given a lot of wildcards to big tourneys but most of the time he crashes out in straights in the first round. Tell me how that is better experience-wise than fighting his way through the qualies where he might actually win a few matches?

In order to avoid discussions, Tennis Australia should just create a WC Playoff like the USTA does.
