Can Australian mens tennis get any lower? This isn't being melodramatic, I'M ACTUALLY ASKING!

Well, I don't think the media for tennis in Australia, would be as brutal as it is in the UK, so I think if he were to even lose, people would forget him quick.

Masur and Woodforde are commentating right now about our juniors. Saying the french juniors have an advantage because they're taller :o

no it can't because an australian player is always guaranteed a wildcard to the french open. so this is failed troll thread.

Not that I want to hijack this thread about Australia and it's new lows but

Sweden has 1 player in the 2011 RG draw and one player in the top 300. Not that interesting maybe if it wasn't because

Sweden had 18 players (yes eighteen) in the 1987 RG draw

There you got a decline and no we can't get any lower. Soderling is at least in the top10 but he is all alone. But cheers to Australia. Sweden is in the same boat mate :bigwave:

Too much emphasis on juniors

Not enough clay courts

Sweden's lone entrant is seeded 5th

Australia's is using something like his 8th WC into a slam

Too much emphasis on juniors

Not enough clay courts

i grew up in a region of nsw that was 100% clay... and so my mtf handle... ;) a couple of synthetic grass here and there...

and now...? the odd clay court here and there... heart breaking...

and so, so silly... when you look at the most versatile players we've produced like laver and rafter.. they spent their formative years on fast clay...

so... no wonder a guy from my city, former aussie national coach chris kachel is now in the business of building clay courts... leading the way in a different fashion by getting his hands dirty... literally...

yes, we know we fucked up royale...

At least Tomic is talented. But it is very bad for Australia in this time. Poor Hewitt in more time injured than healthy. I don't know what happened to Luczak!?

He has time for improving. He will, he is only 18. It is nothing. Kid.

i like wal... but, those two need to stop talking shit... all the beasts are taken by other sports at a young age... to sports that where the chances to build yourself a house a million times are a million times greater and infinitely easier than the chances tennis provides...

they need to shut up and get over that...

Don't worry. I don't say he is future top 5 or something, I don't like this type of comments but he has really good chance for become a very good player in next 3-4 years. This young guys behavior don't start too good but they grow out it sooner or later. ;)

Aussie's are pretty useless on clay. I'm disappointed that no-one was automatically able to qualify for the main draw (and the one that did pulled out), but at least, unlike Britain and Sweden, we have some depth.....

We have depth everywhere but the TOP 100

I'd rather be in Britain's or Sweden's shoes, having a player at the top of the game - someone who could attract young people to the sport. Who's going to attract young men to the sport in Australia? Gooch? :superlol:

Considering what? Considering USA is doing shit? I'd rather compare ourselves to our own history then to another country that happens to be struggling.

I'm not asking for another golden age. I'm asking for healthy representation in the main tour as well as a steady stream of developing youngsters. Nothing outstanding, just normal, world class numbers.

Dreams are free.

i would not dare to dream knowing that a letdown is on the way and we are 20 years removed from conditions that would have allowed me to dream...

like the usa, we might be able to deliver a good player who is a factor for half a season... which is better than nothing i guess...

that is because the gooch is more a global citizen... i wouldn't immediately affiliate him with australia...
