The best thing that can be said in Ernie's sake is, it did seem like he gave an effort today. Clearly, that wasn't enough today, as his game is all over the place. Blaz was consistent, served a lot better than usual, and was simply the much better player. Gulbis still has a lot of game, but his serve isn't where it needs to be, he's more inconsistent than before, and he doesn't hit with any authority.

Blaz does it again :worship: Even outaced Gulbis :haha:

Kavčic was excellent in the windy conditions, didn't make many mistakes. Gulbis looked like he didn't want to be there.

Good for the game this result.

now improve your second serve, Blaž :yeah:

first serve is miles better than the one from 2010 against Roddick

Mugbis is an embarrassment to the game. As soon as this overrated mug is out of top 100, the better it is.

I'm sure Gulbis was atrocious but I'm happy for Kavcic :D He'll probably get routined himself in R2 but nice that he took advantage here.

Good for the game. Gulbis is a brainless mug and a disgrace for the sport. Mindless ballbasher will always be an overrated journeyman.

Fuck me, this Kavicic is so freaking fast around the court. Made a lot of balls.

To be honest, Gulbis actually gave it a little bit of effort out there, he was just outplayed and sabotaged by his error count in the end.

Really pleased to read these reports of Gulbis making an effort to get the win. Will try and get a DVD of this match, or catch some highlights at least; last time I saw Gulbis try was back in January.

wow just awful. "Gulbis is on a poor run on form in Grand Slams as of late with his last win coming at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships."

Now this saying about retiring for his fans. Maybe he should take his riches and women and live happily in Latvia or something. Needs to decide if he even cares about winning anymore. Soon he'd risk not even getting into the slams...

Gulbis has said many times that he's only interested in tennis if he can compete at the top. Clearly, a retirement announcement will come sooner than later. He's on his way out of the top 100.

I'm sorry for his (numerous) fan(girl)s but with his talent and early promise he has only himself to blame.

This waste of talent doesn't deserve to play grand slams.

Hardwork def. lazy talent
What an awesome win for Slovenia. :rocker2:

Gulbis, now you can go and have some parisian hookers, I'm sure there are hundreds to choose from.
What a disgrace for tennis Gulbis is. Čilić at least cares and has a better personality.

Filo V.
05-22-2011, 07:05 PM
Gulbis didn't play a lazy match you all, he did actually put an effort out there. He's just not good right now. That combined with Kavcic playing well, and being consistent, is what created this scoreline.

With that said he is lazy overall and ultimately, does not have the mentality to be a top player.

Gulbis: up and down, as usual. Maybe he wanted to be at home with his child. If so, he should have stayed there.

That sentence has been accurate for the entirety of his tennis career, unfortunately. Years from now there will be a thread on this forum about wasted talent and Gulbis' name will appear multiple times.

I think he's probably losing most of them, including me a while ago. The lack of effort is just ridiculous.

It wasn't a pure tank, but Kavčič wasn't missing much at all and this helped.
