Lu is the Grand Pubah of clay clowns. Nishikori did what was necessary.

No bagel? Disappointed. Nishi had tons of chances to break but either was making an UE or Lu started hitting the ball cleaner. Still, nid.

From what I've seen there is very little gas in Kei's tank, his fitness is not good, he was tired from middle of second set.
Lu's game was just an UEfest: he shot every bird flying by court number two.

Lu didn't play as bad as I expected. He hits a really good ball and dictated play at times. His serve is an issue, though. Really weak. Kei won around 60% of returning points, which is unheard of at the ATP level.

Kei also had issues with his serving, and was inconsistent at times, but got the job done in the end, hit some spectacular shots. First result of the men's French Open.

I think Lu put in some extra effort, probably played better than the "few" other clay court matches in his career...

And hope Kei will improve his fitness level, round 2 here we go!

Lu shouldn't be allowed to play tennis again.

from what I saw Lu was embarrassingly bad...Kei really should have bagel this clown at least

Lu should retire for his fan.... his coach :) Nah but seriously I don't know where he gets his points and I don't want to know but come on. A country that big must have something better.

Glad Kei could finish the match in straight sets. :)

He started brilliantly, but his level dropped midway through the second set (he was two breaks up but got broken back from 4-1 to 4-2, and then allowed another break back as he served for the set for the first time.). And Lu started playing more and more aggressively.

Probably Kei's preparations for RG were not enough because of the sickness he suffered in Rome. He returned to Japan to get treatment and couldn't play for a week.
Hopefully two days' rest will give him enough time to recharge and start afresh in R2.

Facing 29 break points in 13 service games against Nishikori on clay says everything about Lu's level atm.
