the better and the annoying player won

has there been a match in which Almagro didnt argue with the umpire, spectators or surrounding trees?

i think his tennis is good enough, he's a great player on clay when he's on

his behaviour just makes him disturbing

Hanescu v. Djokovic might be worth watching if it happens at Roland Garros.

NID for Almugro. My 2011 RG Dark horse. The confidence boost of getting another clay title is more valuable to him than a little more rest. He will survive the first rounds anyway

People were wondering why he played Nice. My answer was simple, he loves the winning feeling. The winning feeling is more addictive that cocaine: fact .

Well done Nico!!! Congrats! Great tournament, deserved win. Hope he will be very good also at Roland Garros, he doesn't have a bad draw. Vamos!!! :woohoo: He is too good on clay. :D

At least he plays at Roland Garros with very good confidence. :D

Sure, but Nice title is only e72,000, about the same as a masters QF, or his Barcelona semis. His Acapulco final was worth $122k.

More importantly, at Roland Garros:

R4 e75,000
QF e150,000
SF e300,000

Not to mention the rankings benefit, which leads to more money through better draws and possible WTF entry.

Surely after Verdasco's example last year his coaching staff should have had a word in his ear? Even the risk of injury alone makes playing questionable imo.

i wrote a poem... it is called 'Solid Head'

el cabezon must have got his head right behind the ball today...
he is an immovable object when he gets his head behind the ball...
his head is a giant wall...
el cabezon...

Almagro has gone plenty of times playing finals back to back, he's got stamina, don't worry about that, especially since he's in the best shape he's ever been.

Fact is, these guys know that they can win the first rounds pretty easily, especially with the kind of ranking that he has, there is no point in risking not bagging some free dough (that Nice tournament) for having the chance to play better in a R4 or at best a Quarter against one of the big guns, which in 99% of the cases he'll lose to anyway.

I think a lot of people overrate these grand slams.

It's not that bad really, in the early rounds you get a day off, the atmosphere is awesome, the vibe is great, the pay is the best in tennis and so on.

Sure, Nadal and Djokovic already know they'll play 7 matches but what the shit does that matter to Almagro and Melzer?, if they get to R4 or better yet Quarters that'll be an amazing tournament for them. They know how to manage their expectations, they're professionals.

FFS Almagro, why play random tournaments before a Slam starts when you've already filled your 250 quota?

Guys, winning tournament can be too good. Why wouldn't feel it he again?
I remember when he played three final in row, it was 100000 times worse, I don't think he would be too tired.
Plus, what the blog write, remember when Ferrer won Auckland the he played semifinal at Australian Open.
