Robin should have won in str8s if he put in the effort. Another win playing on 50% against a lower ranked opponent going for broke on every shoot almost.

On to RG already. Robin don't seem to be affected much from his groin anyway

Soderling's frequency of winning tight matches amazes me

Golubev led *3:0 in the 2nd TB.

Did Golubev have any MP?

No, he was four times two points away: 6:5* (30-30) and 5:4*, 6:6, 7:7 in the tie-break. Soderling came with strong serves in the most important moments.

Wtf is this, Robin? A scoreline like this against Golubev is not good. You better pick up, Robin or you can say goodbye to A LOT of points at RG.

Its an Exho mate, Robin didn't put much effort in the return games untill he broke for 6-3 in the third. If he can get a draw like your big idol for a change maybe he can make a SF atleast ;)

It is not an exhibition event. ATP points are on offer.

It seems Robin has some problem with his matches, this one is the second when he was near the loss.

Stop with the Rafatard-like exaggerations. Robin has lost to Golubev before and Golu's game (when it's on) doesn't really suit Robin. Good mental effort to dig it out here, he could just as easily have lost in 2.

Now get some rest, champ. Good luck in Paris.

But this was a dead rubber + Robin's 250 column is already full. So yeah, exho.

Golubev had some insane winners in this match, imagine if this guy could clean up his game. He's got good movement, alright serve and can pull off winners out of nothing. Just spraying too much to be consistent and doesn't have the mentality.

Golubev did a good match. Soderling wasn't that good at converting BPs. Only won 3/11 but Golubevs defense should be credited. Sod did however win 84% of his 1st serv points and that's a solid number on clay. What matter's is that he could step it up when needed to win the match. Ppl might think differently but a lot of the top seeds in RG will probably find themselves in TBs well before the QF. It's good to see Robin playing well in deciding sets all year. Only deciding set (3rd/5th sets) he has lost all season was the one against Dolgopolov in AO where he ran out of steam.

All in all a good week for Soderling. 3-0 in matches despite playing for nothing but his swedish friends and his honor. Was able to work on his clay game a little on a surface pretty similar to RG. The groin injury doesn't seem to bother him that much and will likely bother him even less come RG.

He will move into RG with a lot of confidence but also a lot of pressure. Previously I would say he'd likely self-destruct if he got into problems in the early rounds but he has been so clutch lately in deciding sets. Not that worried for him. He will likely reach QF or deeper and then anything can happen.

Soderling still seeking for form since Marseille, would be better for him to find it in the next few days, otherwise he may considerably fall in rankings.

Good sign for Soderling is that he's able to get through extremely tight matches, regardless that they're against players that he really should be beating in straight sets.

All these long matches could turn out to be a problem if he comes up against a competent clay player in the first couple of rounds at RG and fatigue catches up.

Last time I checked Soderling isn't the guy that has lost to two around 100 ranked players this season (like another top5 player) or been injured for like a season like another former top5 player. So let us be reasonable here :)

Soderling is 9-0 in 3-setters since a match against Llodra in Paris-Bercy, including 7 matches in which he was in difficult situation.

Soda was doing the minimum here, bit of patriotic pride raising his level - but only to bare competence, he clearly didn't really want to be there. Couldn't bring himself to tank though.

Golu doublefaulted relentlessly in the second set, doublefaulted away the second tiebreak, then doublefaulted away a break early in the 3rd.

As to Soda's form: worth looking at his results before RG the last two years (or rather, non-results). The possibly difference this year is the coaching situation, and the leg problems.

Good call. For those who don't know his new coach Fredrik Rosengren is a former trainer of Magnus Norman (his coach last year) and is in many ways the true master if you compare those two. If anything he is better set this year since "Fidde" also has worked many years as a commentator and expert and know a lot of weaknesses about the current ATP players. Maybe that can help Soderling navigate to a QF even with some bad days.

About the leg problems the heel injury should be fully recovered by now and the biggest question mark is the groin problem he got vs Djokovic in Rome. Didn't stop him from playing 3 decent matches this week. He should be his normal force in RG this year and if he's not it will show in the early rounds

Yes he got a pretty descent draw untill 1/4 where he is to lose 840 points on paper in the nid 1/4 , hope he makes it to the 1/4 without any problems with the minor injuries he has been carrying lately...
