Walking byes at RG.

I've seen this on other forums, but never here. I thought it was interesting so to get to the point, which players do you consider out of the main draw direct acceptance list to be walking byes aka players that everyone is wanting to draw in R1, knowing that should be an easy victory, and that player has basically zero shot at beating anyone half-decent. Who are the cakewalk draws on the entry list this year?

Tough question considering every match up carries its own elements

as sad sas this is to say for me(about some of them) :

ernests gulbis - because of his weak performance in grand slams for a long time now
igor andreev - because...well do i need to say?

thiemo de bakker - has been aboslute garabge for the longest time

mikhail kukushkin/andrey golubev - neither one of them is very good in the first place and both have been struggling to even win matches this year

yen shun lu - this is the guy everyone wants, he cant play on clay

Would love to see a rematch of Roddick vs Lu in R1, no idea who would win.

A lot of guys with physical question marks. Roddick, Dimitrov, Karlovic, Melzer, Haas, Ferrero, Robredo, Anderson, Hewitt, Picasso, Stepanek, Berankis, Tursunov, Hajek all have physical clouds surrounding them. These guys have either retired/withdrawn from events or not been around in a while. Honestly, the draw will have tons of holes in it and I expect a lot of surprises and upsets.

Well that means a loser in the final qualifying rounds is gonna get lucky!

You can wish for a better opponent on clay only if you're Fernando Verdasco

there will be atleast 2 gonzo is out aswell..if the draw works a certian way ALOT of qualifiers will have opperunities for winnable first rounds..possibly even 2nd rounds

Tursunov isn't that bad.

Like everyone else has said: Lu. Garbage on clay. Querrey is also the best seed you could get. I'm hoping Montanes gets him.

Dima has been hurt, is awful on clay to begin with and doesn't like to play on clay. He'll probably tank.

I think Gonzo came out before the qualifying draw came out. In any case, there will be more LL's most likely. Looking down the qualifying list, many of them are considerably better than many players in the entry list. And clay is an equalizer in ability to begin with. So definitely, a lot of qualifiers/lucky-losers, with the right draw, can do major damage.

:tape: Please no....

Tursunov isn't that bad.

On clay he's not that good. Last year got triple-breadsticked by Gimeno-Traver.

I remember when he double bageled GGL at RG one year, and everyone was cracking up because surely no one could get double bageled by Dima on clay.

Andreev.

He really isn't, especially given he's showing some signs of life.

Lu, Kukushin, Goulbev, Querrey, Soeda, most of the WC bar Paire. Maybe even Gimeno-Traver, given his form. Haas hasn't played on clay for 2 years, and last played singles around 15 months ago. Also, most lower seeds would be craving a crack at Roddick.

Probably others too.

Lu or Tomic would be my first vote as well. However, when Lu's one win (and only competitive match in a long time) is against Fiasco in Madrid, I obviously feel obligated to include Fiasco in some form as well.

Lu/Tomic for the unseeded, Fiasco/Roddick/Querrey for the seeds...

Andreev.

Andreev's best and favorite surface is clay..

Lu, Reister, Kendrick, Mahut, Tomic, Smyczek, Russell, and can't forget Gabashvili (despite his success last year, he has been absolutle shit this year, he's up there with Lu in terms of good draws, imo)

Those are just the few off the top off my head, I think Dustin Brown made the cut off for the main draw, so you can add him.

Although Brown has said his best surface is clay, so be weary.

For seeds, Baghdatis, Querrey, Youzhny, and Roddick are good draws i'd say.

So?

He just lost to a futures player on clay.

Fluke for the most part, he had several mp's and blew it and then tanked the final set. He still won 52%of total pts in that match.

If i'm another unseeded player in the draw I certainly wouldn't consider Andreev a favorable draw. He is a neutral draw, imo. Much worse players in the field.

Andreev's ball is still relatively heavy, he's potentially a pita for a lot of hardcourters (especially those with a s/hander).

And also beat Gimeno-Traver.

GT isn't that good, but Andreev isn't a pushover on clay, imo.

Brown actually beat Wawrinka on clay this year, but he's still pretty dire at ATP level, granted.

Still think Youzhny isn't that good of a draw - I think he's better than Llodra, for example, and he made the QF last year, but his form has been pretty ordinary this year...

Andreev is one of the, let's put it like this "less intelligent" players on tour. To top that, he's in an awful form - he can only be considered a walking bye.
