The FFT gave the two Canadians the middle finger this year - brutal draws, Polansky and Dancevic aren't qualifying.

05-16-2011, 07:29 PM
Peter's draw is brutal I agree, but didn't Frank beat Lacko in a challenger end of last year? and MUller isn't that great on clay is he?

no chance for Peter, but I think Frank has a slim shot

SVK

Dancevic has a big chance, Lacko is totally off form and clay isn´t really his best surface.

Yes, I meant just that he has a big chance to win the first round:lol:

I agree with you, and the winner of Schwank - Dancevic will qualify IMO, the bottom half isn´t that dangerous, probably just Kudryavtsev.

Ungur got a tough 1st round matchup i don't think he'll beat Cipolla
Crivoi is out of form but Kudryavtsev is weak on clay so he's favourite
Also Copil playing against Chiudinelli who's in a miserable form so he can win it

gl balazs, stebe, bozoljac, alcaide, harrison, marti and velotti

Filo V.

Simone has a nice draw for two rounds. He just beat Vagnozzi. Donskoy v Alves is very winnable. Zeballos potentially in the final round is also winnable, as Zeba isn't a good returner, but that will be a tough match, and one Simone will have to play well to get through. However, my two upset picks, Bagnis and Vagnozzi are in that section, so I hope that prediction doesn't come true!

Bjorn actually has a good draw to qualify. But I expect him to lose to Reynolds. If he makes it to QR3 then maybe he'll have a shot, but I expect Minar or Bobby to win that section.

Harrison has a very winnable section. Pospisil has been poor, as has Ward and Munoz De La Nava, and Ignatik isn't a clay courter. Marti could qualify from that section I think, the two youngsters have great chances.

Chucho will have a good shot at qualifying but I actually think Junqueira will beat him. We'll see if I'm right.

Marc is in a hard section. Zemlja, then Ungur v Cipolla, then Rosol again or Copil potentially. He'll need to really be on his game and execute. I'm not sure if he's gonna make it.

Edu has a perfect draw full of hard court players. I fully expect him to qualify.

Schoorel has a nice draw, but his R3 opponent can be tricky. I can see Balazs and Souza giving him trouble. If he's on his game, he should qualify.

Simon has a good R1 draw, but he's going to struggle to beat either Stebe or Delic in R2. He's gotta be on his game, but he's got a passable draw and a decent shot at qualifying.

I think the Frenchman Herbert could qualify out of his section. Robert has a good draw but Stadler is dangerous. Andrey Kuznetsov should have a good shot at winning that section also.

Steve also, has to qualify. Dutra is pretty tough potential R2, but that's a very good match-up for Steve. Anything outside of qualifying will be failure in my eyes. Lisnard is half retired but still dangerous to this day, but I can't see why he won't qualify.

Completely agree.

Filo V.
05-16-2011, 09:27 PM
Martin isn't better than Marti. Especially since this is clay. Marti got one of the best draws possible. Will he take advantage? We'll see.

misty1
05-16-2011, 09:30 PM
yeah, we are going to see the seeds falling like flies tommorrow with atleast 60-70% of them going down

filo v. what do you think of marsel's chances? or muller's?

misty1
05-16-2011, 09:32 PM
ofcourse we could be wrong

last year the clay courters really struggled in qualifying and alot went down early, hard courters suprised alot of us.

if the courts are acting the same way this year and then perhaps we could be wrong and the seeds will fare better then expected

Filo V.
05-16-2011, 09:35 PM
Marsel has an easy draw, but he's not in good form. With that said, I think he's going to qualify. The only guy I can see stopping him is Genesse, but I don't think he will.

Gilles isn't a clay courter at all, his R1 is pretty good v Witten, his R2 isn't horrible but Kudryavstev or Crivoi could definitely beat him, and I definitely do not expect him to beat Schwank, who should make the final round of qualifying in that section. I don't see it happening for him, but winning two matches and getting LL chances would be nice.

Yves.
05-16-2011, 09:37 PM
Stebe vs Delic should be a classic!

Filo V.
05-16-2011, 09:38 PM
A lot of the seeds are in horrible form, though. Or are coming off injury. I expect Hocevar to beat Bogo, I think Fischer is losing to Mayer, Korolev should beat Marchenko, I think Janowicz will beat Gremelmayr, I think Frank is a slight favorite over Lacko, Van Der Merwe could easily lose to Zopp, and I definitely think Devilder is beating Beck. That's just a few. I can see half of the seeds losing.

Filo V.
05-16-2011, 09:39 PM
I think Simone could lose to Vagnozzi but I would probably cry if that happened, so thinking happy thoughts :)

Martin isn't better than Marti. Especially since this is clay. Marti got one of the best draws possible. Will he take advantage? We'll see.

Yes, we will see... My explanation... Eufory from the fact, that Marti is talented and he is only 18 is not enough for this match. Andrej Martin has better play, he could play variable, he has more experiences. Marti didn´t beat any player from top 200. Of course, everything is possible... but I hope, Andrej will have no bad day and no complications in the 1. round...

Never knows. He played some great match already in his career and who knows, maybe he find himself in a Grand Slam. There are more chance than a smallest tournament I guess.
And Kubot can be 1000 times worse than anybody. Specially if he made a big party today. He had birthday.

Filo V.
05-17-2011, 11:57 AM
I'm glad Bjorn won his match so easily! I predicted a loss, hopefully that shows he's in better form.

Marchenko beat Korolev easily. That's a poor loss for Korolev. It doesn't seem like he'll ever be decent again, at least any time soon.

Andrey Kuznetsov easily beat Alex K. Expected result and a good comfortable beginning for him.

Kubot won, I'm sure Diana will be very happy :)

I have to say I'm pleased with how everything went today, all of my favorites outside of Zeba won so I'm happy. Hopefully it's more of the same tomorrow.

From a neutral perspective, very few upsets today. Di Mauro beating Chucho and Veic beating Zeballos clearly the biggest ones.

Filo V.
05-17-2011, 08:31 PM
Rochette beating Bachinger really opens up that quarter of the draw so much. On paper now you have to think Leo Mayer is the favorite to advance.

Steve having to play a nearly 4 hour match AND being scheduled for tomorrow is a huge disadvantage for him, especially since he is so fragile physically. Dutra is the big favorite in that match.

IMO, Marchenko beating Korolev is a minor upset. Kuznetsov should really dominate Marchenko.

Harrison winning today was big, but I don't think he's getting past Munoz De La Nava. If he qualifies it will be a major accomplishment.

Meffert beating Junqueira is an fairly big upset as well. With Chucky and Chucho out, that entire section is wide open. I didn't think Falla had a shot at qualifying but he may now. I still think that Meffert/Di Mauro winner will qualify.

I think Simon is going to have a very tough time beating Stebe. Stebe is more of an HC player so that helps, but with the way he struggled on serve today, he's going to find it difficult. Probably have to break a lot to win.

Ramos v Del Bonis will be a very interesting match. That's a tough section with Knittel and Capdeville there as well.

The toughest section by far is the Rosol v Copil/Ungur v Gicquel section. The way Ungur beat Cipolla relatively easily today says to me he's in good form and he's very dangerous when he is.

Who do you all think will win between Ciric and Skugor? I think the Croat will win but that could be a long serving battle.

Dancevic's match should have started 30 minutes ago

Why is the scoreband at a slam acting like a US challenger right now? Frustrating

Crivoi won the second set tiebreak. Not good. Gilles had a mini-break lead.

What happened to Dutra da Silva vs Darcis match?

Simon is controlling Stebe but I'm still very nervous about that match. I don't trust Simon at all.

The Schwank-Dancevic match seems like it's correcting itself to the right score. Seems like Edu has a comfortable lead.

Now it has Frank and Edu on serve in the first set. Seems it's right now, though.

Dutra v Darcis got passed over. So either a change in schedule or one of them withdrew (probably Steve).

From twitter:
Darcis def. Dutra 4/6 6/2 6/1

But it's better to wait for official score.
