The tournament would be on São Paulo and will be with the 7 players who get more points with Challengers and with one Wild Card that São Paulo would give.

Prize Money of the tournament would be 220.000 Dolars!

I don't know if this information is true.

On a blog of Dalcim that is from TenisBrasil (Greatest Forum of Tenis on Brazil) he asked this on portuguese:

This on portuguese is talking that Brazil would win a tournament with Points to Ranking ATP with less money than Brasil Open ( ATP 250 ).

And the son of a great commentator talked in one Forum that the tournament would be a Challenger Tour Finals.

I don't know if the rumors are true. Anyone can confirm? And if it's true what do you think about this tournament? :wavey:

Yes Its true I have seen it from contact with one of the organziers of the event Koch tavares. It will be like a MC for challengers the best 8 challenger players of the year and it will have a considerable money prize for the winner 92 thousand dollars. In my view it would be better to bring another ATP tournament to Brazil or make it a 500, but it will be very close to my house and is a chance of seeing some good tennis.

Luis Felipe Tavares, founder of the project ATP Challenger Tour Finals, just announced that the Brazilian high-rank player Thomaz Bellucci will receive the WC (wild card) as the ''home player''. He just won't receive it, if he breaks into Top10 on ATP Singles Rankings. A Top10 player can't play any Challenger events, according with rules.

Bellucci will ruin the tournament.

Surely a better option would be to award the WC to the Brazilian who amassed the most Challenger points over the year, rather than Bellucci?

Nathaliia
05-22-2011, 10:59 AM
Last year there was a thread on MTF "can Bellucci win RG" and now he will play a challenger final... the mighty has fallen! I also think the WC should be given to the highest ranked Brazilian in the challenger ranking, or at least to some journeyman who balances between challengers and ATP (so he doesn't have as many chall. points as he could) like Mello!

I like the concept and i also think it's a great idea but i think it should've been the first 8 players with best results in challenger tour not 7 + 1 WC
Bellucci is not a challenger level player anymore so i don't know why he is getting a WC
If Bellucci plays, many of player probably won't have a chance

This is a stupid decision

Surely a better option would be to award the WC to the Brazilian who amassed the most Challenger points over the year, rather than Bellucci?

This would be a good decision if they really want to give WC to someone

After Stebe's two titles in Asia he should make a huge jump into the top 10 of that list. Another week like that in Ningbo and he will most likely secure his spot in the top 7 :)

Does anybody know how many ranking points the winner will be awarded? Will they have a system similar to the World Tour Finals?

Btw, I guess Rosol and especially Machado and Prodon are not really happy that the finals will be played on indoor hardcourt :P

That´s a great idea. I´m also interested in points system on this tournament. Klizan is leading the race now, he needs probably one more good challenger to secure the spot in Brazil. But he is also not very comfortable on indoor hardcourts, although there are also worse players than him in this...

Hmm, so that means some players refused to participate in this event? Prodon, Rosol, Istomin, Ungur and Robert were all ranked higher than Reynolds and Stebe.

But I won't complain. On the one hand I'm happy that Stebe got in as the third German player :) And on the other hand Sela, Reynolds and Stebe are better hardcourt players than Prodon, Rosol or Ungur. So it's an improvement for the quality of the field.

Now the only pure clay courter left is Rui Machado (who won a set against Federer in Davis Cup on indoor hardcourt!). Klizan also gained almost all of his points on clay court, but he did win an indoor hard challenger last year in Bratislava. I also don't think Thomaz Belluci is that comforable on indoor hardcourt, so I don't really see him as the favourite here. This is going to be interesting! I hope they'll provide a good live broadcast...

Just found out about this, I think this is very interesting and a great way to acknowledge the pros that do well in the challenger tour.

I would've thought Carlos Berlocq is closer to the top of the list, I think he's a very good player on clay but this will be more competitive since it's indoor hard court. Too bad he didn't make it.

The draw:
Green Group - Bellucci, Klizan, Beck, Reynolds.
Yellow Group - Machado, Sela, Stebe, Bachinger.

_Chaz
11-14-2011, 07:08 PM
Beck has to win his group, this is one of the easiest draws possible for him (Machado instead of Bellucci would have been easier). Despite being a HC mug Bellucci should finish 2nd in his group.
In the yellow group probably Bachinger and Sela will advance. Machado won't have any chance I think and Stebe only a small one (indoors is clearly not his surface).

Stebe will probably beat Dudi. I don't expect Dudi to bring his A game here. I also think Stebe can beat Machado. Really, Stebe can and should beat all three players if he's playing well. Rui has said he's tired and he's obviously not an HC player, and Bachinger hasn't had great results of late. Stebe has taken the past few weeks off to get ready here and I expect a lot from him.

As for the other half, Andi Beck is the clear favorite but I think Bellucci can beat him. Both should make the SF.

Challengerslover
11-15-2011, 10:15 PM
Andreas Beck is a bit overrated. He isn´t the same player he was cca. one year ago. He is beatable on this level now. Bellucci is a clear favorite in my mind, with Klizan vs. Beck fighting for second spot in that group. Their opening match will be the key. I would also say that Bellucci´s group is clearly the stronger one. Reynolds could win one match...

I think Bachinger and Sela will come through the second group, but Stebe has some chances. Machado is the biggest underdog of whole tournament, I think he will lose every single match here.

If he can win just one match here, it will greatly help his chances to earn an AO spot. But there will be several guys using PRs like Gonzalez, Haas and Becker, so he'll need to actually be in the top 100 to make it.

Luckily for him, he doesn't defend major points until March so he has two months at the start of 2012 to get points and get top 100. If he's smart he'll then play the weak Asian challengers again and solidify his ranking.

Really important win for Cedrik!

Stebe got the victory, huge one for him. But I don't see him beating Machado unless Machado is tired. If he does beat Machado then he could be in the SF, which would give him a good chance to make Australia.

I don't think Cedrik will be tired, he didn't have to do a lot of running, luckily for him.

Let's see how Machado does against Sela.
Atm I think Stebe vs Machado is 50-50, hopefully Machado loses today so Stebe is guaranteed a place in the semis with a win against Machado.

I'm not terribly surprised. These courts are slow, Rui is playing confidently, and he's playing his tennis and doing it effectively. Dudi didn't play well yesterday so I knew this could be a loss for him.

11-17-2011, 07:33 PM
According to some people here, Rui "Underdog" Machado is going places. A win in less than one hour time against the hard surfuce speciallist Dudi Sela. What a match of Rui!

JurajCrane
11-17-2011, 07:35 PM
Sela said the courts are pretty fast. And Martin Klizan said somewhere over the court balls do not bounce at all.

Conditions in Sao Paolo are really disapointment, in order to Klizan´s words.

Filo V.
11-17-2011, 07:39 PM
I'm surprised Dudi said that. The courts look medium speed at most. However the bounce is definitely low.

Klizan definitely needs more bounce with the court to enact his game. Rui's game is pretty adaptable to most surfaces. He's a clay courter but has shown HC ability in the past. He took a set and was competitive with Federer in Davis Cup earlier this year.

JurajCrane
11-17-2011, 07:46 PM
Klizan said : "There is a big hall, which provides many actions, not only sport. Surface is really catastrophic, very soft and there are some parts, where ball do not bounce at all.
Everyone is complaining about that, but we cannot do anything. By the organisation side, there are not normal rest place for players, no gym. My expectations were pretty high, cause it is the first year of the tournament, which is told to be the best challenger tournament with biggest prize money.
By the way, it is not fair that Belluci plays this tournie due to players, that have been playing challenger tour for almost whole year, while Thomaz is ranked about 35 and plays only and only ATP World Tour. Then it is not kind of Challenger Masters."

guyha4

so the groupe stats are:
Machado 2-0 (4-1 sets)
Sela 1-1 (2-2 sets)
Stebe 1-1 (2-3 sets)
Bachinger 0-2 (2-4 sets)

So if Sela will win in straigt sets he'll qualify as num.2 (the other result is not matter in this case)
If sela will win in 3 sets and Stebe will loose Sela would qualify s num.2
If sela will win in 3 sets ans Stebe will win in 3 sets Sela would qualify as num.2
If sela will win in 3 sets ans Stebe will win in straigt sets (I'm not sure but) the game number will decide (there's a option that the match between sela and Stebe and then Sela qualify)
Sela and Stebe will loose in straigh sets Bachinger will qualify i think

The funniest thing is Klizan has stil chance to earn his spot in semis.

If he beat Belluci 2-0 (not sure at all, but what do we know ? :)) and Andi Beck will beat Reynolds (2-0 or 2-1), standing will look like this :

1.Andreas Beck 3W (6-1 or 6-2 sets)
2.Martin Klizan 1W 2L (3-4 sets) - better matchup bilance
3.Thomaz Belluci 1W 2L (3-4 sets)
4.Bobby Reynolds 1W 2L (2-5 or 3-5 sets)

I am not sure about that matchup bilance thing.

But still it is hard to expect Klizan beat Belluci, moreover in straight sets.

Klizan is pretty much out, because even if he does beat Bellucci, Bellucci not only has the lead in sets won, but Reynolds also being at 1-2 potentially would cancel out Klizan's H2H advantage over Bellucci.

Things not looking good for Stebe. He really needs Bachinger to win a set because Dudi doesn't have a good games ratio currently (due to yesterday's thrashing), but he would have an unassailable sets (for Stebe to overtake) ratio if he wins in straight sets.

No offense to Machado, but how could Sela lose 2 and 2 to this guy yesterday? He has a good game of course, but still on HC you should be able to win more than 4 games against him. Even Bachinger was more competitive (well he led by a set and a break) and he was quite bad in the other two matches.

Wrong, If Bellucci loses, and Reynolds loses later on then Beck is 3-0 while Bellucci, Reynolds, and Klizan are 1-2. it would go to set win %. A bellucci 2-1 loss(would be the only way he loses now that it's in set 3) would make him 4-4 in sets for a 50% set win %. Klizan would be 3-5 for 37.50%, and Reynolds would be 2-5 for 28.57%(if he loses in straights) or 3-5 for 37.50%(if he loses in 3) and Thomaz would advance.

If Bellucci loses, and Reynolds wins, Reynolds is first, Beck is 2nd. If bellucci Loses and Reynolds loses then Beck is first Bellucci is 2nd.

If Bellucci wins, and Beck wins, Beck is first, Bellucci is 2nd.

If Bellucci wins, and Reynolds wins then beck, Reynolds, and Bellucci are all 2-1 and it has to go to set win % againt. If Reynolds were to win that in straights it'd be Bellucci 1st and Reynolds 2nd, if Reynolds won in 3 it'd be Beck first and Bellucci 2nd, if I'm not mistaken on the order of tiebreakers

now andi needs to beat bobby tonight

Actually 1 set would be enough for Beck to be the group winner, but if he loses in straight sets he is out.

andi needs to win just 1 set to guarantee his place in the semis

Beck just looks so much better than anyone else in his group. I think his match with Stebe should be good tomorrow.

andi survives the choke and wins it 6-3

i believe that now he is guaranteed to make the finals even if he for some reason loses this because of the sets won/lost differential
