Ljubicic and Berdych were top 20 when they played their challengers.

They were probably between 11-20. That's no problem (but you do need a WC).

WC to Berdych if he loses early in RG. Hajek getting ready to peak for the Hajek slam.

That will be a huge mistake from Tomas, it will be better for him to prepare on grass, because he have to defend final on Wimbledon

Yes i agree. This will be very good tournament. Possible is start of Michail Youzhny and Florian Mayer!

But for my is maybe a favourite Czech player Lukas Rosol, he won ATP Challenger in Prague this year. And in this moment ho won a first round match in the Roland Garros.

Here is fanpage of Lukas:

Berdych Slam here? or is he not going to Prostejov.

He'll be at the event might play doubles but can't play singles.

Filo V.
05-25-2011, 11:17 PM
Guys always play Prostejov after losing early at RG. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Starace, Dodig or Golubev try to get a WC here. Maybe Kohlschreiber. I doubt Tomas will play here in any capacity but who knows?

Nathaliia
05-25-2011, 11:21 PM
Top 10 players CAN'T enter a challenger even with a Wild Card. If he plays it will be only doubles.

Filo V.
05-25-2011, 11:25 PM
Yeah............I learned that rule a few years ago. It's a good rule. It should be top 30 IMO.

Tomas should just take a break to recharge for grass.

Nathaliia
05-25-2011, 11:28 PM
Apparently I am not sure, but I think players 11-20 ATP can receive WC only during second weeks of slams and to Sunrise challenger (Sunrise wasn't played this season though)

Players 21-50 can play with a Wild Card.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong... (but I think I'm not :p)

I agree with you Tomas shouldn't even bother as he has stuff to defend at Wimbledon, full focus on grass and not on beer in Prostejov.

Well, looking at the draw, I like it for Jan. Sorry he has to play Mikey in R1 but he should beat Mikey. Then likely Misha, and at this point, I think he has a great chance to win that match.

I think Pippo should win two matches. I have to root for Jan if Pippo and Jan play in the QF. Jan needs a big run here.

Ruben has one semi-winnable match but he'll likely lose his R2 to DGT should he beat Pospisil.

The second quarter is the toughest with Rosol, Stepanek, Seppi and Minar. I think one of them, and Robredo, are the favorites at this event.

Korolev saved 4/5 break points in the first set and then won the tiebreak to zero and dominated the second set, so obviously his motivation must be quite high this week.

Anyone heard of Radim Urbanek? He got hit by train in Prostejov on Friday and they give him 30% chance to survive :( He has severe head and chest injuries. He used to be a very good junior

Yes, I heard about it :( He's in coma in the hospital in Olomouc now. It's very sad. I know him a little bit, he's the same age as me and I met him during a tournament here last year. A very nice guy, I hope he fights and gets better.

Sightseeing trip in the old factory continues

Aga is playing well but Sharapova serves like a monster, I think after the 1st set Aga was done with the match, at least her face said so .

Shriekpova won :o

Aga played pretty well. Maria just hits the ball too hard.

Oh well, at least Misha's excursion to the Czech Republic continues so overall today has been a good day of tennis for me :p

And also, the strangest result of all, Minar losing so badly to Navarro. I wish I saw that, I didn't catch it. That result is quite frankly a disgrace if Minar wasn't hurt.

Based on the results of the first round and what I did see today, I think Steps should have a good shot here. Rosol v Stepanek will be a good match.

Seppi hasn't played a good match yet but is in the QF. Guessing Steps will beat him tomorrow.

Steps-Rosol was a really up and down match. A lot of struggling on serve from both, good points, bad points. So maybe Andreas has a chance by being consistent and Steps making errors.

Albert wasn't good yesterday, IMO very expected.
But you got it right Steps 2-0, I was thinking it might go in 3 ;)

Gosh I've been so busy and missed all the matches.

Seppi usually plays well in challengers, he's kind of like a late-career Vliegen, don't you agree? At the same time I don't think he is too weak for ATP or smth like some players (had Career High in the 30s, beat good players incl. Rafa...)... just looks like he mentally doesn't fit on the higher level for the time being. What do you think?

Seppi only plays a few challengers, he needs some matches after coming back from injury. Problem when Seppi is awful, he is shit, but his top level is solid.

Filo V.
06-01-2011, 02:43 PM
Seppi is a little better than late-career Vliegen, he can win ATP matches. He's not a challenger player who moonlights on ATP events. He's a good player, solid, beats guys he's supposed to most of the time, and loses to better players most of the time. The past couple of years he's been a little less good at the ATP level than he was a few years ago but not Vliegen bad.

Misha is playing a lot sharper today than yesterday, and Jan is making too many errors. Overall a pretty high quality match, though.

You can tell the difference between ATP level ballstriking and challenger level when watching this match in comparison to others at this level.

This event to me basically is dead because probably Youzhny/Seppi/Stepanek will win, and they don't need the points. They don't need this win like other guys need it. How can a challenger guy make the top 100 if ATP players play and usually win all the big challengers? It's disgusting.

Most likely will be a Steps v Cipo final, which will be nice if it happens. Cipo will be right around the 100 mark if he wins this event. For a guy with absolutely no serve and pretty much no offensive weapons, he's always managed to do just enough to stay inside the top 150 consistently and near 100 a lot.
