Why is the alternates list so short? Don't players into the 250s and higher usually make it into Qualifying for the Slams? I know the last qualifiers for the Aussie were in the 270s.

Clay is his weakest surface, so he should try to pick up some points while the Challengers are weak (during qualifying for Roland Garros).

He's in the Cremona MD. Smart move IMO after his disappointing loss in Busan. May as well stay on the hardcourts and hopefully get a few wins rather than try and qualify for the French considering the lack of time he would have had to get adjusted to the clay and after the disappointing loss in Busan.

Huge disadvantage for Souza and Junqueira that their final was moved to tomorrow. I actually thought both had big chances in qualifying, not sure anymore.

I am so excited for the draw to come out! And nervous. I will crumble if some of my faves are matched against each other or have tough draws. I just want all of my favorites to qualify.

Huge disadvantage for Souza and Junqueira that their final was moved to tomorrow. I actually thought both had big chances in qualifying, not sure anymore.

That also happened last year in Zagreb challenger and then both finalists (Schukin and Ventura) made the main draw at the French Open, even if they had to play the final on Monday. But I agree is a disadvantage for Souza and Junqueira.

Filo V.
05-15-2011, 11:49 PM
Yeah, that's true, I remember. Didn't Yuri win the final very easily? Also the two finalists last year are so much different players in comparison to this year, Chucky especially, he's a grinder and it will be tougher for recovery. Feijao-Chucky has tough 3-setter written all over it. Hopefully they can recover well for Tuesday.

And I see that the final will start at 1 PM local time  when last year started at 11 AM, if I remember correctly.

Great job on the rankings :yeah:

Bjorn lost a seed in the final week. But with his form, he's not going to qualify anyway. Marco got a seed in the last week and aa lot of my favorites have gotten seeds so I'm happy.

Honestly, a lot of the seeds are weak. Marchenko, Gremelmayr, Pospisil, Ito, Reynolds, Lacko, Muller, Van der Merwe, Prodon has been injured, Bogomolov is coming off a groin injury, Beck has been out hurt, we can go down the list. Probably will be a lot of upsets. Don, is he a clay courter, can he produce on Euro red clay? Can Kubot keep up the good form? Will Souza, Gicquel, Junqueira be tired? A lot of questions, the draw is going to be of extra importance this year.

Filo V.
05-16-2011, 03:02 AM
My two "upset" picks are Vagnozzi and Bagnis but I need to see the draw first. But I think both will qualify. I think Robert is going to qualify, and I expect Simone to qualify easily because I think motivation will be very high. Also, you have to expect Chucho to qualify if he's fit since he's one of the best players there clearly.
