We have one of the best doubles players of all time - Daniel Nestor. Also, Adil Shamasdin has been doing really well over the past year (including one tour title). Lets discuss Canadian doubles results here.

Tough loss for Nestor against Gonzalez/Lipsky in Barcelona.

Hopefully he will gel with Max by Wimbledon :)

Adil Shamasdin and partner beat Golubev/Istomin in a super tie breaker in ATP tournament in Munich. Great win!

ya Cerretani/Shamasdin won, but they had me worried in the super TB for a bit; they were up 8-2 when Golubev/Istomin started coming back; after 9-4 the eastern europeans managed to get back 4 mps before Shamasdin and co sealed the deal... something of a squeeker that one, but it all worked out ;)

Adil lost in the semis in straight sets...not sure what their next tournament is but I'm guessing it's Prague. I'm curious if their ranking (around 135-140) will be enough to be entered for doubles at the French Open.

A little analysis on Daniel's doubles career from Tom Tebbutt this week

http://www.lovemeansnothing.ca/blog/the-new-and-improved-novak

Daniel Nestor started 2011 at No. 5 on the all-time list of doubles titles winners in the open era (since 1968) with 71.

This was the list then:

Todd Woodbridge 83

John McEnroe 78

Tom Okker 78

Frew McMillan 74

Daniel Nestor 71

So far this year, Nestor and partner Max Mirnyi have one title – in Memphis. But the top-ranked Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, have four, including in Madrid and Monte Carlo at the last two Masters 1000 events.

So the list now looks like this:

Todd Woodbridge 83

John McEnroe 78

Tom Okker 78

Frew McMillan 74

Mike Bryan 73*

Daniel Nestor 72

Bob Bryan 71

*Mike Bryan won two titles with other partners early in his career.

While Nestor, 38, appears to be fighting a losing battle with the Bryans, 33, for career titles, he is well in front in matches won – and his next will be the 800th of his career. That’s more than 100 ahead of the American twins.

So Shamasdin lost his first round French Open doubles match while Nestor won his.

Last year after a few disappointing first round losses Adil's partner Cerretani dropped him as a doubles partner, looks like that may have happened again as they as both playing in Great Britain challeneger this week with different partners http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/6286/mdd.pdf

letshavefun3
06-17-2011, 06:55 PM
So the Wimbledon doubles draw is out:

Adil Shamasdin (CAN)/Chris Guccione (AUS) vs (10) Mark Knowles (BAH)/Lucasz Kubot (POL)

and Nester/Mirnyi vs Leos Friedl (CZE)/ David Martin (USA)

letshavefun3

letshavefun3
06-23-2011, 04:08 AM
So Thursday at Wimbleon Nestor, Shamasdin and Rebecca Marino (on the WTA side) will all be in doubles action.

06-24-2011, 03:36 AM
Shamasdin and Gooch dropped the first to Knowles/Kubot 1-6, but came back in the second, they'll finish up tomorrow. Nestor will also play his first round match, against Freidl/Martin.

Hey guys - I was at most of Daniel's doubles match on Saturday. I have a ton of pics I'll upload as soon as I can.

It was definitely a missed opportunity. Especially in the first set they had plenty of break points on Knowle's serve but just could never convert. They played two sloppy tie-breaks as well. Just unfortunate.

Shamasdin at a career high of 61 on the back of his final appearance last week! I hope he finds a regular partner soon (this week he is in Stuttgart with Gonzalez).

It would be nice if he could team up with Pospisil (they played together with some success in 2009 and 2010) but that's not viable while Pospisil is making his singles career a priority.

letshavefun3

Why dont PLD and Eric or any other Canadians ever team up during the majority of season but instead team up with other nationalities? I think it be cool if PLD and Adil team up together, they are the two best doubles players in the country after Danny Nestor. This way, Adil will have a regular partner.

letshavefun3
10-02-2011, 03:33 AM
Because Erik and Pierre both want to focus on singles competition and they dont want to have to coordinate what tournaments to play just so they can play doubles together.

For Adil, he often plays tour level tournaments where Duclos couldn't even play qaulies in the singles so it it wouldn't make sense. Only way it would work is if Duclos wanted to abandon his singles career and only focus on doubles.

Arash Madani is reporting that Nestor has a left wrist injury he suffering at Wimbledon. He's playing with it heavily taped. That maybe explains why he and Pospisil didn't play Newport together.

This is too bad for Nestor for his last Olympics.

I don't know where Nestor found the energy to win a 15-13 set against Italy today. He's still experiencing new things after more than twenty years on tour. His first Davis Cup quarterfinal is certainly a memorable one. He won a World Group doubles match before, but that was when his opponents retired, and Canada ended up losing the tie (Nestor-Niemeyer d. Verkerk-Haarhuis 7-6, 1-0 ret. in 2004).
