Hey guys, his 1st round match starts Tuesday, September 24 | 6.00 AM EST.

Against Stefan Kouben (AUT) whom he lost to @ TMS Toronto this summer.

:fiery: REVENGE:fiery:

°VAMOS! °VAMOS! °VAMOS!

Okay, good luck to all the spaniards and may Juanqui win the whole thing.

Got another picture to share, opening ceremony. Sorry, very small. It's in an local English paper which to see the enlarge version, I need to be a paid subscriber. Well, I guess they are not into free trial like we are here. Seems that only the Spaniards are in the ceremony...

Whoa, is Alex letting himself go again?

Someone should tell him that's not a good look for him :D

Layla
09-24-2002, 02:01 PM
LOL, it's not gonna be me. I like his scruffy beard. :D On Eurosport I saw him first thing in the morning with bleary eyes. He was simply adorable. :)

RogiFan
09-24-2002, 03:02 PM
:( you saw alex on eurosport??? we w/never get such coverage here! i don't mind the beard but i prefer him cleancut. he does have lovely hair though... and eyes -- ay, que ojos mas hermosos tiene, alex!!

any scores yet or is/was it still raining??

hope our spanish guys got through!

nice pic btw vera where did that come from? the site itself?

Layla
09-24-2002, 03:17 PM
Oooops, that didn't come out right. I meant to say I saw him once, during Roland Garros. They were showing players getting to the stadium. Nice coverage though.

Mmmm, I've always maintained that Alex has the most beautiful eyes of all tennis players. :hearts:

No scores yet, so I think it's still raining. They might not even get to play, as it's getting late.

Nacho
09-24-2002, 05:25 PM
Pffff I hate rain   It should be forbidden :fiery: :p

Vera
09-24-2002, 05:50 PM
RogiFan. The pic is from a local paper called South China Morning Post. But I see that today, there's a nicer pic in the ATP site.

I like Alex to be clean cut too, and Juanqui also. They are so handsome, why cover the face with beard.

Seems like if JC gets thru the first round, he's likely to face Jeff Morrison in the 2nd. Major revenge time for JC...

Anyway, good luck to JC, hope he finish Koubek quick.

John.Charles
09-24-2002, 05:58 PM
hey guys i'm @ school....JC's match was supposed to be finished hours ago however due to the rain delay he is playing live right now...

JC took the 1st set 6-2 and they're tied in the 2nd 2ALL

Just curious, jcsting, why do you use a : to replace the J in Juanqui for the thread title. Is there a special meaning or something???

JC's match will resume at 2pm wed, which means I should be able to see the result before I go to bed. Yes, pls finish Koubek quick.

RogiFan
09-24-2002, 07:24 PM
:( Damn that rain!!! Juanqui, just beat that guy! AND then take your revenge on that J Morrison [yuk!]!

Ahh... Alex's eyes -- they are lovely... no wonder he does L'Oreal ads in Spain -- because he's worth it!

Nice pix! The Spanish guys are doing the Chinese Dragon thing! Aren't they so cute? Que monos!

I love when they have these cultural activities for the players -- gets them into another culture and brings out the fans! I'm all for it! [I wonder what they plan in Madrid -- can't wait! I already "wondered" on the Sp Armada forum: maybe flamenco? bullfighting? sangria-drinking? tapas crawl?]

Bring on the photos!

Just curious, jcsting, why do you use a : to replace the J in Juanqui for the thread title. Is there a special meaning or something???

 The J is still there

Are you refering to the inverted "!"? That is there because in Spanish their question marks and exclamation points are placed at the beginning and end of a sentance/...

Oh sorry. :o I get it now, my computer acts funny and couldn't read spanish well (when the alphabet if it's not English, meaning like in German, there's some alphabet that don't exist in English, those with a sideway colon on top like the e and the u, my computer has trouble displacing them correctly). Anyway, me not knowing any spanish, that reflects in my computer:(

On my screen, the thread name is :uanqui @Hong Kong!, J didn't show up, hence I asked.

John.Charles
09-24-2002, 08:29 PM
oh....ok..no prob vera...So what happened with the match? i don't see any results

...oh nevermind i just checked the order of play for wednesday and they have to finish that damned match with our KING leading 6-2 2-2....

...yea i changed it..

Vera
09-24-2002, 08:31 PM
Match suspended, rain delay. They will resume 3pm wed which is about 2am TO time tomorrow morning. Did you just change it, I see the J now, thx.

Well, I know russians use much more weird letters and characters, don't they? Like another alphabet or something like that

Vera
09-24-2002, 10:10 PM
I'm getting increasingly confused. Seems like our computer all interpret things differently. Sometimes, some spanish alphabet shows up like a drawing. Like this one: tambiťn. Did you see that mess after the i? If you can see it, that's what I meant by not being able to read.

Anyway, the thread title on the screen now is ?Juanqui @ HONG KONG! Is that what's everyone is seeing now?

Indeed, the Russian alphabet is the Cyrillic alphabet. Named for the monk who modified it from the Roman alphabet. It looks hard, but it's really not ;)

No he didn't. He's been playing mostly in black on the hard courts and he's had pretty good results, or at least he's been playing well. I know he defeated Arthurs dressed in black.

By the way, I WANT RESULTS!!!! This is so frustrating. Is it still raining?

Hi, guys!

Water, water, everywhere...:(

It's raining here in Bern, too. But usually in Asia at this time of the year it's the monsoon season, so the typhoons we get in the Philippines goes to HK afterwards.

Vamos los Espanioles!!! Vamos Juanqui!!!

Hey, Layla, i like that band that you featured at the Hill. I'm going to town and look for that cd. See you later. I'll be watching the Basel-Liverpool match tonight but i'll drop by the Hill after...Ciao!

:)

Layla

The monsoon season huh? That's a pretty grim prospect. :( So are you saying my little dance won't work? ;)

Leo:wavey: thanks for considering kissing me. Knowing that you and ILR are a couple, I understand your concern.

Since the rain wash out yesterday, I doubt there'll be any pics for today. I'll check later anyway.

That's a scheduling backfire, only 1 single match in day 1 and now they will have almost everyone playing 5 matches in 4 days, that's if the weather cooperates.

Did anyone notice that Blake pull out, replaced by Dupuis. JC was supposed to meet Blake in 3rd...

Blake pulled out? I wonder why? That loosens up Ferrero's draw a bit, huh?

Asuming they ever play

Vera
09-25-2002, 08:45 PM
Blake pulled out, reason=left leg. That's what's stated in the ATP site's tournament draw sheet. Though his name is still in the draw in that Salem website, which is of course, only contains delayed information. The Salem site NEVER shows anything up-to-date.

First the horrible website that's unable to show the draw, now its endless rain delay that send everything into chaos. This Salem Open has doing a good job at driving the fans nuts...:D :D :D

My notes from the match. I'm not a great expert so don't expect a lot of info. :o

Itís very humid in Hong Kong, so the conditions are pretty difficult. But Juanqui looks absolutely gorgeous. I knew I shouldnít trust those pics. His hair is not actually that bright. Itís the color of wheat. True, it is a bit short, but it looks great. Heís wearing black. And he looks very sharp and fit. :)

1. SET :

GAME 1: JCF gets a break from being 0-40 down. :) Playing well, powerful shots, one great passing shot.
1-0

GAME 2: A bit shaky at the start, not many first serves in, but won the game 40-30. Golmard makes unforced errors.
2-0

GAME 3: Golmard wins this game easily 40-15. No rallies at all, because Juan Carlos didnít return very well.
2-1

GAME 4: Still few first serves in, but great second serve. Ends with an ace. Ferrero wins the game to love. Again, no rallies beyond one return.
3-1

GAME 5: The commentator said that Ferrero looks in very good shape. I agree. :D Theyíre playing a bit tentatively at the moment, Ferrero makes unforced errors. Golmard wins 40-15
3-2

GAME 6: Another love service game for Ferrero. He was very solid. Golmard trying some daring shots, but they sail long.
4-2

GAME 7: Great game by Golmard. Good serves and even better follow up. Ferrero returned well but it wasnít enough.
4-3

GAME 8: Ferreroís first serve statistic canít be too great, but his shots are very solid. Fantastic return by Golmard brought him a break point, which Ferrero saved by a daring second serve down the T. Ferrero holds a tough game. :)
5-3

GAME 9: Golmard is starting to volley better. Fabulous lob by Ferrero. Golmard won all the points in this game with a volley, except for the last drop shot which Ferrero ran to brilliantly, but just missed by a fraction. It was an impossible shot though.
5-4

GAME 10: Ferrero serves for the set. Serves an ace, followed by another one. 3 set points. :) Nets a forehand. :( Another great serve and the set is his. :bounce:

Layla
09-28-2002, 12:12 PM
2. SET:

In the beginning of the set, Golmard needed a trainer but Iím not sure why. I think he has problems with his shoulder.

GAME 1: Golmard serves. Great passing shot by Ferrero, then again some good volleys by Golmard. But Ferrero breaks him with a spectacular backhand down the line.
1-0

GAME 2: Love service game for Ferrero. Great play by Juanqui but Golmardís shots are missing the target by quite a bit.
2-0

GAME 3: Excellent serving by Golmard. One really spectacular return by Ferrero. 40-15
2-1

GAME 4: Great serving by Juanqui. Another love service game. :)
3-1

GAME 5: Ferrero breaks him. 15-40 Nothing too spectacular in this game. Golmard looks tired. Ferrero gets a double break. :D
4-1

GAME 6: Again a superb second serve. He seems to be totally in control. Two aces and heís done. :)
5-1

GAME 7: A bad unforced error by Golmard 0-15 Two long returns by Ferrero. 30-15 Golmard nets a forehand. 30-30 Great serve, Ferrero nets a return 40-30 Another netted forehand for Golmard 40-40 First double fault of the match and itís match point for Ferrero!!! A great return that Golmard canít counter!!!

AND JUANQUI WINS!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Iím overjoyed to see him in the final!!! :D

Layla
09-28-2002, 12:18 PM
A very solid performance by Juan Carlos, but he wasn't really challenged by Golmard, especially in the second set. He did serve very well in the end. In fact, there were no double faults on his part. I wish I could see the stats somewhere. I don't even know how long the match was. Golmard seemed very tired and beaten in the second set and he made a lot of mistakes. It wasn't a performace that helped him beat Alex and Chela. Not that I'm complaining. ;) I'm glad to see Juanqui so easily through. He won't be tired for tomorrow's final. :)
