Hey all! :wavey:

Does anybody know when the location for the final will be announced? I would love to go see that! There's always such a great atmosphere at DC matches... plus, Spain in the final, don't want to miss that! ;)

Spain

Carlos Moya (Singles 1)

Juan Carlos Ferrero

United States

Andy Roddick (Singles 1)
Vince Spadea (Singles 2)

Spain have named an unchanged team for the Davis Cup final against the United States in Seville on 3-5 December.

Carlos Moya, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Rafael Nadal and Tommy Robredo will take on the US in front of 22,000 fans at the converted Olympic stadium.

It is the same team that defeated Franbce 4-1 in the semi-finals.

Moya and the struggling Ferrero are likely to play the singles rubbers, with Nadal and Robredo continuing their doubles partnership.

Spain won the Davis Cup in 2000 and reached the final last year, when they lost to Australia in Melbourne.

I would pick Agassi, if he makes himself available. He can play on clay better than all the youngsters, Roddick included.

11-09-2004, 10:37 PM
It's a tough choice for the Spanish captain who should play singles... if Ferrerro has regained his full fitness, I would pick him for the 1st day and let Robredo rest for the doubles.

perhaps SPAIN got more chance-->that's only my predition.

11-10-2004, 10:29 AM
Yep,I don't say they surely win,USA is a strong team, although Roddick sucks on clay,he always beat Spaniards and he never lost a set. However,IMO the main factor decides Spain will win or not is their healthy status. :)

I♥PsY@Mus!c
11-10-2004, 10:37 AM
Carlos Moya (Singles 1) - play 2 single matches
Tommy Robredo  (Singles 2 & Doubles) - maybe play 1 single & should play the doubles matches
Rafael Nadal ;) (Doubles) - play 1 single & the doubles matches
Juan Carlos Ferrero - maybe play 1 single match if others have injuries.

well im def for spain in this and IMO its theirs for the taking. i mean at home, on clay against american? they'll never have a better chance. the fact that the whole team is practically crippled could be their downfall though.

White Plains, NY (Sports Network) - Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish will lead the United States against host Spain in next month's Davis Cup final in Seville. Roddick was this year's Wimbledon runner-up, while his fellow hard-serving countryman Fish captured a silver medal at the Summer Games in Athens.

U.S. captain Patrick McEnroe rounded out his team with doubles specialists Bob and Mike Bryan.

Mardy Fish has no ability to beat JC or Moya on clay.I even think Roddick too.

Sportsbstn
11-17-2004, 09:58 PM
Mardy Fish has played a total of 1 match on clay this year, and was CRUSHED by Bogomolov. Fish to me was a poor choice over Ginepri. Fish has had a better year, but certainly not on clay.

Andy, well he has a history of collapsing at Roland Garros, and now he goes to an even tougher draw in Spain where 10,000 people will be screaming against him.

Ferrero has had a tough year due to injury, but at the end of 2003, he was likely the #1 ranked clay court player in the world. Moya this year is getting over the shoulder injury, but playing pretty decently at the Masters. He was 22-4 on clay this year, and this is a huge goal for him.

As for the doubles, Bryan/Bryan has the edge, but dont discount Nadal/Robredo who have performed well this year when teamed up, making the semis of the US Open and winning Chennai. On clay they should be difficult.

I cant see the United States even winning 2 matches. Fish is definitely 2 losses waiting to happen as he couldnt beat a single player on the Spanish team and Andy is at least 1 (to Moya) and if Ferrero can find his stroke, Roddick isnt beating him either. Bryan/Bryan look like the only win to me.

why would you've picked lopez over nadal when nadal/robredo are a doubles team in regular tour time events and have played in all dc ties this year?

Not only that, but Nadal is a better player on clay that Lopez is and won two matches in singles this year that won the entire tie for them (one of them was actually on carpet, incidentally).

Lopez over Nadal could not possibly make less sense.

11-18-2004, 11:10 PM
hey...rafa has shown really good results in the DC so dont rule him out!!..
Even if Ferrero or Moya wins the last singles match, Nadal will be the unsung hero of this years Spanish DC effort ;) (although it's worth noting that they would never have gotten through the first round without "must wins" by Robredo and Lopez either :p)

I think there is no question Spain will win. Americans are HORRIBLE on clay. I will be rooting for Spain! I mean, Spain has Moya and Ferrero who have both won Roland Garros. Plus Robredo/Nadal played together in doubles in DC semifinals and did well. Robredo himself won Barcelona this year. As much as Andy Roddick may want to win this, he has never had success on clay outside of the US. The man who has never made it past the 2nd round of the French Open will be playing its champions.

I don't see how the US has any shot to win this at all.

Are Americans being bashed in this thread? Did I miss something? If this is American bashing, then there was a whole lot of Spanish bashing going on during last years Davis Cup.

Deboogle!.
11-24-2004, 11:39 PM
It has nothing to do with Americans being bashed, Jenny... it has to do with the Americans SUCKING ASS on clay - to an embarrassing extent... and this isn't really subjective, it's pretty undeniable LOL!

If the US goes over and fights even half as well as Spain did last year in Australia, I'll be pleased. That's all I'm hoping for - that they go over there and try and give it their very best shot. They'll still be embarrassed probably - even though I hope not - but yeah... as long as they just fight hard and give it their best shot and don't give up, I think that's all that can be asked of them.

What are the chances that Juanqui will play on the third day? He won't want to play a dead rubber, and if it's a live rubber, will the Grupo Tecnico go with him?? And if Juanqui doesn't end up playing any matches in this tie and Spain wins, will his name still go on the trophy? Even if it does, it will be a hollow victory for him. If they didn't think he was up to it, they shouldn't have named him to the team in the first place. Bah! Such an insult to the player who won Spain their one and only Davis Cup! I fully trust in Rafael to win "at least" one singles point. Ferrero said this week if he wouldn't feel fine he would let his place to another player... hence Ferrero must be having physical problems, so whole the spanish team (I am sure there was a consensus) picked Nadal who is at his 100%. Finally this is a team competition not a personal issue. The men in best conditions have to play regardless their names.

It was certainly a surprise not to be picked," Ferrero said. "Physically I am at 100 percent and I have had three days of good training.

"Obviously I am not jumping up and down with happiness, but you have to take things as they come."

Ferrero says he is 100 percent.

FWIW, the betting line has moved a bit towards the US after this news about nadal playing instead of ferrero. Spain still a big favorite to win but not as much as they were 24 hrs ago

I cannot believe the Spanish have gone with Nadal. What a dumb move. I know JCF has been playing very badly, but I would still have picked him to roll over Andy Dickhead very easily on clay. Nadal will blow up tomorrow.

Thank god Moya will fry the fish in straight sets.

Wow, that's a lot of hate. What'd they do? Kill your grandmother or something?

Do you think Lleytons bitch will win tomorrow?

Yeah definitely. Guys - it is clay. The match is going to be very drawn out and Fish has to keep up an exceptional level to win. Careless will get his chances but he might have to wait until the next set.

The danger is if he goes down a latish break in the second set having lost the first.
