Gianni Mina french player who comes from guadeloupe is the first WC.

Is San Jose + Le Gosier = Sunrise? Some discussions you could find in http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=177839

You are right Sunrise had a special ATP decision to be able to attract top 50 players...

However, if you compare the entry lists of IW (MD http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=176025 QD http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=177360), KB (MD http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=176901, QD a little later), you could see that San Jose + Le Gosier entry lists are almost from possible IW loosers only. As in Sunrise, they would have a possibility to play a couple matches to be ready for KB...

Sunrise is less than 50 km from KB, but you need a airplane to reach KB from SanJose and LeGosier

I think that would be a good idea to have bye for seeded players in ATP and CH too. That would allow top players not to play that much along the year and complain that the calendar is too long

On the upper half of the draw Nieminen and Kamke shouldn`t find my troubles to reach SF.

On the bottom half I hope Clement or Ollie would reach SF. On the last quarter of that half Reister or Fognini would be fighting for that last SF spot.

Great place for a tournament. Good luck for Gastao Elias :wavey:

There is no need to speak about the whole year even. All seeded players will play in the Miami Masters next week, so we have very good event from the point of interests of these seeded players. From the point of tennis fans, we have very strong field

Of course, from the point of usual challenger standards, it's a pity that event has these BYEs and no qualifying rounds. However, I guess the tournament main role is to give seeded players a possibility to prepare for Key Biscaine...

I agree with you. This is not the place to expand an opinion about the first topic.

On the other hand I know what you mean and I think that you are right that this CH as well as San Jose (and probably Rimouski too) are good warm up tournaments for seeded players for Miami MS. At the same time this could had been a good chance for some players that are playing Future events in USA and need points (read Wayne Odesnik, Daniel Cox, Marco Trungelliti, Catalin Gard just to name some) that could had played quallies in San Jose for instance and get some easy points and probably advance a couple of rounds.

Surely because of the weather It's very hot and humid the players could not do the best tennis before 4.00 pm. it's better to play late and more people can come after work.

a 100K tournament without SB:rolleyes:

Anyway, great victory for Gastão. I kind of expected that one, because Elias has huge potential, and I think he will finish the season top150. Also I have a hope that he can get into RG qualies, but that will be hardest because of the lack of time to do it. He has to win another match here, to have very good chance of make it.

Machado and Gil, you know I like the Portuguese players, but Gastao is playing Simone! Simone needs to win that one to keep a top 100 position! I hope Fred makes the final though :)

Fred won't be in the final, I'm afraid. Will play Jarkko in QF. And I think Gastão can beat Bolleli, especially if we look at the surface. Of course it won't be easy, but Bolleli is the favourite but not by a long shot, IMO.

BTW, does anyone know if the match has started?

The matches start really late, so I don't think they have. Simone and Gastao don't play today anyway, at least according to the schedule, but that may be wrong. I think there will be several upsets today.

With the way Simone has played this year, I think it's about a 50-50 match. And definitely, it being on HC gives Gastao more chances. I think Fred can beat Jarkko, I think he would struggle more with Kamke than Nieminen.

WTF Bohli?! Win against Millot and Fognini and then lose to this guy?

 C'mon Ad Wim! Do you know Gastão's potential, and his path this year? Take a quick look:

http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=178996

I just quoted some of his achievments at that chearing thread. He's been considered frequently one of the main contenders for the future of tennis. The guy he beat some years ago at Eddie Herr final, had beaten Dimitrov in Semi-final. Injuries gone, he's fulfilling all his potential now! I'm beting he'll be at Top-150 at least by the end of this season, which is really his first full senior season.
You'll hear much more about him, no doubt.

Ad Wim
03-18-2011, 02:53 PM
True, he has potential, but has a very long way to go. And he is in no way comparable to guys like Dimitrov, Raonic, Harrison, Tomic etc.
Therefor, Bohli should have beaten him. But it's good that he is doing well.

Why is playing there and not on clay in Morocco/Europe?

Everyone knows that Gastão is the future of tennis.

I think you're overreacting. Maybe he's the future of Portuguese tennis (I don't doubt it), but saying that he's the future of tennis in general is a little too much.

And anyway, Olli will beat him today. It's been a great week for Gastao however, hope he backs it up in Miami.

Not sure if your last question is about Gastao, but if so, Gastao grew up at Bolletieri Academy, and they tend to evolve to hard-court players there. He's clearly more confortable on hard-court.

Not surprised to find Ollie winning the title here. Quite suprised finding Jarkko and Tobias losing earlier.

Fantastic week for Gastao :worship:. Not only he beated much more experienced player like Reister, Bohli and Bolelli are ranked between 100-150 but this SF is going to allow him to break to the top 290 :yeah:.
