Next world #1 surely deserves to have his own MTF Thread. He was born on 19th July 1995, and currently has 15 years. At the moment, he occupies #23 on Juniors' Rank list, although his best ever rank was #21 last week. He's the youngest player in top 188 on Juniors list. While he was competiting in Under 14's, he had no rival and was winning everything that could be won, and of course he was #1.

His biggest achievement was probably winning Grade 2 event in Beijing. He also played in another G2 final in Huzhou. He also won one Grade 4 event in St.Petersburg and played in 3 more finals.

A few weeks ago, he played on Grade A Casablanca Cup and reached QF. This week, he's 13th seed on Australian Open and will play against unseeded Saville in R3. He's probably the biggest hope of Serbian tennis.

A nice performance against Granollers. He's showing big potential, in fact he's the best young player in the world at the moment. By far. And probably the most talented since Nadal, Murray and Djokovic generation. But he mustn't stop there and has to practice even more(especially on his service, it was awful yesterday :() and I'm sure that he'll reach top 10 by his 19th year. Also, I have noticed big influence of his father on him, after every point he'd look to his father and eventually comment on something, I'm not sure if that's good, I think not :(

Nikola is in final of G1 tournament in Santa Croce.

He'll play final tomorrow against Dubarenco. By this he'll achieve his Career high ranking of 19th on ITF Juniors list :D

If he wins in final, he'll probably be 16th :) Ajde Nikola!

Great news for Nikola, I really hope he does well this year.

From what I can see Nikola is probably training through April. He'll be skipping Beaulieu-sur-Mer and, according to the May entry lists, starts his clay season with the G2 in Romania (01.05-06.05), goes to Santa Croce G1 (14.05-19.05), this year's Bonfiglio (21.05-27.05) and finishes with junior RG.

Gusztav
05-25-2012, 01:56 AM
So, back to Nr.7. Made the SF in Romania, skipped Santa Croce and then flopped in the second round of Bonfiglio.
Guess RG is next. I hope he gets it going and pounce in next couple of months, his last year's RG and Wimby were quite poor... that's a chance.

Nikola went for big points in South America....

He is scheduled this evening in Abierto Juvenil Mexicano (Grade A) Final and is to play next week in Costa Rica Copa del Cafe (Grade 1)

Not that bad, considering Nikola doesn't look like a dust player.

GasquetGulbis
12-29-2012, 04:20 PM
He should not be playing the Costa Rica tournament, the 2nd highest ranked player is in the 50's. I understand its easy points, but this guy has no experience at the senior level, and thrives entirely off tournaments with weaker draws. His top 10 ranking is embarrassing in my opinion. It'd be like Tomas Berdych playing only challenger tournaments and winning them all to pick up points.

Crvena Zvezda
12-29-2012, 08:33 PM
Nikola 0 i 3 !!!! Abierto Juvenil Mexicano Prvak !!!

He is to play there because his level on dust is not good, at least not a Top 10 one.

So that South American Dust Swing is a good lesson for him.

EDIT : He should not be playing the Costa Rica tournament, the 2nd highest ranked player is in the 50's.
As the Class Age will change before Copa del Cafe 2013 most of the ranked Junior (those born in 1994) won't be Junior anymore.
That's why the entry list looks so poor, Mylnikov ranked 189 in the EL will be World #91 in the new ranking.

GasquetGulbis

He was very good as a youngster, he was even really good for a 16 year old, but now as an 18 year old he hasn't progressed like he should have, he should have gotten results in futures by now

Crvena Zvezda
12-30-2012, 09:10 AM
It is no big deal, some won very young like Borg and then stopped at 25.

Some were called "Baby Fed" and then didn't win anything significant to date.

There is no rule...

His coach does a good job making him improve with no pressure at junior level.

I would be anyway very happy if he gets the same career as Berdych or Tipsy.

PS : With his double win (singlu i dublu) in Mexico, Nikola is 28 pts away of Junior World #1 (943 vs 971 for Quinzi)
With winning Copa Del Cafe 2013, Nikola would take the lead by 42 points.

All of his points have come from tournaments that the top players are too good to play in. He's a good player, but he's not the #1 Junior in the world regardless of what the rankings say. If you look at the quality of players in the tournaments he's won its pathetic. Costa Rica had no one, Mexico had Silva, I'll give him that.

I'm not trying to take a lot away from him, but he is not the best Junior in the world, not by a long shot.

Thanx to have posted it, I was so focused on Nole's games that I forgot.

It's amazing how many divinators we can see in this thread...

Did Nikola borrowed you some money to pay his trainers so that you want to hush and hurry him ?

I am sure people around him know what they are making and have good reason to delay his tour debut : lack of muscles, lack of maturity, lack of confidence...

Every person has his own way of developping and his own rythm and the better way is to follow that rythm.

I can't understand why so many people want yougsters to play ITF very soon.

I must admit I don't know Nikola family background but if he needn't earning that much of money on court to be able to pay his staff, there is no urge to play ITF.

Players reach their best at 25/27 (in most cases) and he is 18.

In such case like Nole, Djokovics have borrowed money to almost everybody around to pay trainers so I can understand they need money back but there are also plenty of players : Pernfors, Safin... that began playing at 19 or later on pro circuit.

It's not about money, almost all successful players today had very good results before they were 20, I think Isner started later, but he's an exception. Safin was insane talent, so he's not really a typical example. If you are 22 or so without any decent results, chances are you aren't going to have any.

It's because he's going to spend his entire year as a 19 year old playing Futures. Lets say he plays Top seeds in each of the 20 tournaments he plays, and only manages a few wins, then he's a 20 year old outside the top 1000. He becomes a steady futures player at 20, then at 21 a top futures player. He's just falling behind. How many players were playing futures at 21 and went on to be great.

I think Raonic was still playing futures when he was around 20, but then again that serve he has isn't something ordinary, was easier for him to make a big step sooner or later.

He had won 1 challenger Wolfsburgh (Carpet 2008) and 3 futures.
Last week, He reached final in Izmir defeating Ignatik Klein Gojowczyk Wu and loosing to Kukushkin in the Final.

Next is Tiago Fernandes for the second week in a row.

Belgrade, Serbia; 25.04.2011; 250; Outdoor: Clay

ok he was 16 and Gerard 22 but it is a loss :tears:

A clean scoreline for Nikola with a straight sets (tri i tri) win.
But the match was closer with 9 BP faced. Hopefully Tiago didn't deal with pressure.

Next is Yann Marti (Svicarska - Svjetski #489)

Nikola has found his master in Marathon !

He was outserved by Marti who won 66% of serving points and was always fighting for his serve winning less than 50%.

He fought back in set 1, breaking back twice, but collapsed in set 2.

Finally Marti won the title.

Nikola is playing in Sharm this week ON CLAY which is not his major !!

R32 He faced Ronald SLOBODCHIKOV (RUS 19 g. # 1035) which has defeated Werner and Mxime Chazal on clay recently.
Nikola won 3/6 6/4 6/4.

R16 looks easier when facing Antonia ZUCCA (ITA 21 g.) a player who had a couple of attempts in the past (2010/ 2011) in futures but with no signiicant wins.

Nikola lost in the third set tie breaker.

His serve is still a little bit weakon clay but he showed guts to level 1 set all and then break back in the third.

Michon is indeed a true clay player with wins over Richard Becker and a couple of clay futures won.

Getting to know...Nikola Milojevic

The ITF Junior Circuit caught up with world No. 4 Nikola Milojevic from Serbia to find out more about the 18-year-old.

ITF Junior Circuit: Tell us a bit about yourself…

Nikola Milojevic: I’m from Serbia originally, Belgrade. My mother was a good swimmer, my father was into football so no connection with tennis. I had some friends when I was seven who started tennis, so I figured ‘why not me?’, and when I first came to the court, some coaches said ‘this kid is talented, maybe we should start working seriously’ and that was it. When I was seven years old, I started for that age already playing some serious tennis, and scores came out. And from then on it just got more and more serious, I practised more, I improved myself, and I got here.
So do you have brothers and sisters?

No, I’m the only one.
You said your parents were quite sporty?
Yeah, my father played football in Germany and mum was a good swimmer in Belgrade but not professionally.
Which is your favourite surface?
My favourite surface… well, it’s tough to say since I won on each surface the great tournaments… but I have to say actually hard court because I have the most winning tournaments on it. But I love to play on grass and surprisingly I’m playing good now on clay. But let’s say hard court since I have my biggest wins on that surface.
What about outside tennis? Do you have any other hobbies?
Of course. I love movies, I go to the cinema as much as I can with my friends. Music, reading books, always seeing what is coming out, new books.
What about music? What types of music do you like?
I really listen to all kinds of music. Let’s say before the match, something with a good beat, a good rhythm to pump me up, and after the match maybe some slow, relaxing music.
Do you have a favourite place or a favourite tournament?
My favourite tournament would be Wimbledon, I really love playing at Wimbledon. For the country, I can’t really say, because I am in a lot of countries, there will always be a couple of places that you want to go.
What is it about Wimbledon that you like?
I can’t really say what… it’s that wonderful feeling when you’re on the grass, and everybody’s in white, and there is all that tradition, it’s the oldest Grand Slam. It feels different from any other tournament.
Tennis must be quite big in Serbia now. Do you get a lot of extra attention because of that?
Well, since I became No. 1, the press went huge. That was the moment almost everybody in Serbia knew about me, and Novak [Djokovic] congratulated me on his Facebook and Twitter… that was big, everybody heard then. From now on, it’s a little bit of a different situation, and they know in Serbia about the other junior, Laslo Djere, who is also ranked in the Top 10 in the world, and coming from such a small country it’s unbelievable. And even now having these great juniors in Serbia, tennis is hugely popular.
Is that extra pressure for you or do you quite enjoy that?
I don’t really feel it, because I try not to read the press. It always is a little bit pressured… having Novak [Djokovic] and [Janko] Tipsarevic in the Top ten, and now having two juniors in the top three, everybody expects you to play a final or a semifinal of a Grand Slam, and nobody really knows how tough it is. But I try not to think about these things. It’s always nice when you come from a big score to your home, and everybody’s happy, but now I have to focus on the next match, and that’s the only thing I’ll be focused on.
You have spoken to Djokovic and to Tipsarevic as your mentors quite a lot… are they always very helpful?
They help me a lot. I don’t know if I would have become a player like this if it wasn’t for them, because we practise so much and just by that I improve myself a lot, and it gives me huge confidence for the junior matches.

Well TBH, even if Clay is Doktor Ivo worst surface; I think Nikola is not used to such a powerfull serve.

And is own serve is not strong enough not to be broken, even by Ivo.
