It sounds like a great tournament. Not sure what sort of condition Roger is in but he has a very nice draw all the way to the final (hardest opponents in his half are Paradorn/Dent).
Roddick's half is certainly more difficult.

Sawatdee Khrab Rogi!!!

:bounce: :bounce:

What's up with the draw really? The Swiss are all in the same quarter for both single and doubles

Rogi pls pls pls play well, bring your best to Bangkok...it's not a big tournament but I know there are lots of fans who can't wait to see him playing live...give them your best shot Rogi!

Chok Dee Rogi!!!

Including you?

I've made sure that I won't be able to watch it or follow it closely coz I'll be away for outing for a week. If you are there, pls cheer for me loud :wavey: I'm sure Roger will go deep given that everything goes normal and probably accomplish the goal I made for him, that's 10 titles this year ;)

Hope I can catch some of the replay when I'm back. :)

Nope I can't  Instead of flying north, I have to fly south for work!!! Stupid!!! :fiery: Why can't Rogi be in Bangkok when I was there last time? The hotel he's staying now is really near to where I worked last time...who knows for some reason I might be as lucky as the girl in Rogi site to bump into him in the office lift ;)

Outing as in holiday? How lucky...

Good luck Roger :D Yes, I like his draw. Not too tough. Fore once Roddick gets the hard draw. Dent ans Shittyphan are the toughest in his section, which both Roger can handle, I'm sure.

Awwwww  . Why do you call Paradorn that? He is a good guy, and popular on the tour.

Anyhow, will be very interesting to see Peter L. in Safin's support box, should a Rogi-Safin final materialize

Hey, I didnt make the name up, Dirk did ;) I do like him, he has a great personality, and is extremely nice, I call him that because more than half the time he plays like shit, and not to his potiental.

Dirk
09-26-2004, 06:25 AM
I call him that because I don't really like him as a player. He faked cramps against Kaffy in miami and his endless pandering to the crowd after matches just drives me nuts. Shittypan is overhyped, but full of talent which I think will never be realized.

I think the score reflects the fact that Rogi has learned (like any great champion) to play "enough" to win. He doesn't need to expend great energy to whip the guy 0 and 0, and look flashy, but just do enough to win, as well as conserve energy

I hope so too. It depends on what other doubles teams are playing. I mean, Allegro, can play great at times, as was witnessed last year at Vienna, defeating top doubles teams on the way to the title. I hope he wins a doubles title this year. :) It may be his best chance to win one this year. I'd imagine, he'll play doubles in Basel, too??

Yeah Dirk, Rogi is definitely the Ninja - Silent assassin.
And Heuberger got a deadly iron forehand to the mouth. No mercy even to his own :p countryman.
Toothache?...more like broken teeth

I think Heuberger did runner :bolt:

Dirk

Oh no. Rogi hit him?

mitalidas
09-30-2004, 02:30 PM
no, Rogi didn't. Ivo had a toothache, and Rogi knew about it and made the statement later "i took advantage of his toothache" (like as though Ivo stood a chance even with Strong, healthy teeth . LOL!!!!). Rogi also made the very confident-sounding statement "anyone who wants a chance to beat me now, has to be 100% physically fit "

WyveN
09-30-2004, 02:57 PM
how did Roger take advantage of Ivo's toothache? Did he serve at the mouth?

Or perhaps he substituted Ivo's banana with a nice green hard one.

lsy
09-30-2004, 03:24 PM
That's the huge advantage of playing someone you know very well, you get to know their weaknesses before matches. In this case : bad teeth. Rogi surely had exploited that effectively in the match :yeah:

Actually, I've done very well with Rogi on vcash(5-0). And the only time I bet 500 on him, was at the US Open to win the title, which he did, so I would say its a safe bet. :) (Dont kill me if Rogi loses tomorrow ;):scared: ) I'm going to bet on him myself, the match against Srichaphan.

You've to know what you bet on! Of course most people bet on Federer. I think we Roger fans especially myself wants for him to win the doubles more than the singles because he would again prove the critics and skeptics who said top players don't play doubles and even if they play they usually crash out early. Also this will also add to his amazing year winning doubles and singles titles. Therefore, if he wins the doubles tommorrow and also win the singles, it will be icing on the cake.

Good Luck Roger

Yeah thats my problem too. I won't be bump if he were to lose the singles title to anyone else but I don't want him losing to Roddick.

Therefore I think the solution is for him to win both then we all would be one happy people

Ofcourse my ultimate wish is for him to win both, but if it won't happen then I mostly would wish for him to win in Singles, mostley because I really really don't want him to lose to Roddick, and I think Roger himself would wish mostly to win this to keep up his undefeated record against Top 10 players, I know this is a record he is trying to keep up.

Also since he is in the singles final, no matter what happens, I think he will definately give more than his all on the court to win his doubles match to show his teammate Allegro that he respects their partnership so much. So all in all it is just GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I want Rogi to win both singles and doubles, but singles takes priority in my book, especially against the world's #2.

Having said that, I won't be TOO upset even if he loses to Roddick. While another title would be great, as far as I'm concerned he has already booked himself a place in the hall of fame with his stellar performances at the grandslams, and thats what really counts.

Still, I would dearly love to see him pick up a trophy for the 10th time in 04.

I sort of agree that I want him to win the doubles title more. It would be a unique, memorable title for both him and Yves and while a 10th singles title would be great, it would be completely overshadowed (and pretty quickly forgotten) compared to his other achievements.

And yes, playing Roddick breaks that logic, as it is important for Roger to keep a psychological edge over Andy and even a single victory could give Andy confidence that I would rather he not have

Well, not quite actually, but the only previous one was a long time ago (Haas in Memphis in 2001).

I just rewatched the match, and knowing Andy was injured it became more obvious while watching it how he was affected from the injury. Beginning of second set he S/V a lot, like trying to end the points quicker and he kept moving his arm like trying to loosen it. A the end of the match he's not going after the shots anymore. So yeah, I think his injury affected him much more than I originally thought when I was watching the match live.

Sally, Andy was very gracious in his speech. He said he was injured from his match against Marat but don't think it will make any difference anyway with how Rogi has beaten everybody this year. Rogi said he never expected to win so soon again since he has taken it easy after USO. He also said he won't be looking to break Borg or McEnroe's record, will just take it one tournament at a time. But he did say he want to win Basel and Houston :D

:) Thanks Ytben, so kind of you. :)

So it seems Roddick is realizing more and more hands down there is no comparing them right now, and he is now showing more respect for Roger as he sees he is in a league of his own.

Alright Roger you go on with ya bad self brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

A friend is going to give me the dvd of both semi finals as well as the final, if anyone is interested in a copy let me know through pm.

The responce to this has been a little overwhelming (over a dozen people have asked), unfortunately I dont have the time to make so many copies so to be fair I will just send my copy to the first person who asked (teemah)

I flew to Bangkok the weekend and managed to get tickets for both the semi-finals and final matches. I was so excited at the beginning and cheered for Roger. :bounce:
But somehow his game was a little bit disappointing, footwork no gd...he was not playing to is best. Srichaphan was playing great. The most amazing and incredible match was Safin vs Roddick. It's pity that Safin lost at the tiebreak, I think if he could get to the final, he might have the chance to beat Roger. Even to Roddick, if he wasn't injured in the semi, Roger probably would have a hard time.
I also noticed that during the doubles matches, couple of times in the changovers, when Roger finished his bottle of water, he just threw the empty bottle to his back. Of course the ball boy would go around and pick the bottle up for him. But other players would give the empty bottles to the ball boys. Not very good manner...
He didn't do that when playing single matches, i don't know why,may be he thought there's no tv coverage for the doubles....
Anyway, it's great to see Roger winning his 10th title...:bigclap: :bigclap: pls pls gives us more great tennis.

I finally get to watch the final.

Rogi played a very good match. Andy was outplayed but it was still pretty entertaining with some good rallies at the beginning. Don't know how bad was Andy's elbow but does anybody also beginning to feel that Andy's attitude is as much of a problem as his game vs Rogi?

Didn't surprise me that Andy started cracking joke again when he's down 4-0 in the second. It's cute for the fans but he does that almost too often playing vs Rogi. Unlike Hewitt, he doesn't stay intense throughout the match. But maybe Andy's injury was more serious than I thought it was.

But good match from Rogi. He treated the fans with some incredible shot making and they really appreciate it :yeah: What was I thinking when I actually worried that Rogi will come, take the appearance fees and don't give a serious shot of winning.

I'm also happy for Paradorn and his home fans that he gave a good match to Rogi. The only setback is Rogi/Yves couldn't win that double which I almost hope as much if not more than Rogi winning the single, and they don't show it on tv
