When I said last week Peter has regressed and wasn't an automatic choice for DC play, it was with days like today in mind.

Granted Frank was down a break in the third set early against Steve Johnson. Lets face it - outside of Milos, no Canadian is playing tennis worthy of a guy ranked above 400 right now. Just awful stuff.

Agreed.. and btw, with drought I was thinking about matches outside of the DC, just fyi :) Peter has lost every match this year. He couldn't even get past R1 of qualifying here, but honestly.. what could we expect? he couldn't get past R1 in the challengers either, and I'm guessing IW has a stronger field, even if it is just qualifying.

To be honest, I'm disappointed by Peter, not surprised or anything.. I know he sucks lately. But Frank had a nice run in Johannesburg (I think it was?), so it sucks that he's playing this bad here. I really thought he was on his way up again, guess I was wrong, sigh..

Peter lost every match this year, is that exageration? because he won 2 rounds of Q's at AO, won a round in a challenger, and did win the slightly easy DC match. I think that's it so yees it's bad, but at least it's something lol, C'Mon Frank

Even by Frank's standards we're witnessing an epic choke. Johnson is ranked 200 spots below Garza and has four years less experience. Just unbelievable how soft he's playing

Absolutely miserable from Frank and Peter. I am beginning to sympathize with Laurendeau down there in Mexico - he was really faced with a hopeless choice between two players neither of whom seemed to have learned how to win a match, even from a position of strength.

Watching Frank's livescore, I was starting to think that the only way he would possibly win the match was if his opponent served one of his exceedingly numerous DFs on MP. 2 for 11 on BPs in the 3rd set. Just horrible.

Frank just bombed another match where he proabably should have won, although the competition was pretty stiff today. Has Frank ever lost a match because of the other guy just being better or because Frank just keeps shooting himself in the foot? Everytime I see him play he seems like once he gets down, he has no interest in coming back.

Obucina was off with an injury last spring, came back but ret. after a few matches and has not been seen again, although he was confirmed last November as part of the NTC team. Elianne Douglas-Miron on the girls side has similarly failed to make a re-appearance after a long injury time-out.

Not very encouraging for the health of our young players.

Not good? He's professionally ranked, I'm pretty sure he's good. And if he could get into the futures without having to do 4 rounds of qualies every time, then I'm sure he'd start picking up 1 point a tournament or so, it's all a matter of experience and working his way up. Besides Rafa and Gasquet, no player just walked onto the Futures tour and started winning them left right and centre.

He's 19 years old this year, he did nothing as a junior, hasn't done much as a pro, I'm shocked he even has one point really. Great stuff from Vasek! The bounce in his ranking may be partly temporary, as he has 18 points dropping off in a couple of weeks.

But if he keeps this level of play, it won't matter.

I wonder if this is partly his work with Niemeyer paying off.

Good to see both top seeds - Peliwo and Abanda - prevail in the U18. On the girls side it seems like if you are good you win it when you are 14 or 15 and then stop playing, so the U18 title goes to the girl who will likely be the top junior in 2-3 years time.

Abanda is already huge - in terms of height. Which raises a question about how much she is advantaged by her size, and whether the advantage will diminish when others catch up.

Still she clearly has a lot more than her size to thank for all her success, and I really hope to see her continue to do well.

Good afternoon! New user here, but have quickly brought myself up to speed on chatter happening in Canadian Players and Milos Raonic threads.

Can someone please explain what happened to our request to get a Canadian Players Forum and Milos Raonic subforum? The arguments were compelling and the Milos hype machine doesn't show any sign of abating anytime soon. So why the delay?

Voting for new forums only closed last week, I think. I expect there will probably be an annoucement soon, probably in a week or two, though others will know more about that.

Should happen in maybe five days. :)

By the ay, Nenad and Llodra are not playing together this week, maybe they are already split up?

Welcome, CannuckTennisFan - I hope you stick around!

Snowwy, I was wondering too what was happening with the Zimonjic-Llodra pairing, but it may be just a matter of scheduling. After losing to Raonic, Llodra was complaining that he hadn't had more than a couple of hours on the clay, so maybe he decided to spend the next few weekrs practising!

I see that Peter got himself a WC to play doubles - not sure how, since neither he nor his partner are Italian - but his bad luck continues: they have drawn the #2 seeds.

Vasek is actually now ranked 287. He has only 7 points to defend between now and September so there is a great opportunity for him to climb the rankings if he keeps his level up.

Come on Vasek!!

Also, this is just beyond impressive. Raonic 13th this year in ATP points. I am feel bad for not knowing how amazing he is doing this year and almost expecting wins now. We have to all remember that a year ago, Canadian tennis looked bleak and it still can in a years time from now but we have to enjoy this time now. All of us, even sokk. :)

Looking forward to it! Vasek should also get his own site, given the warm reception to his "Vashy" blog on LoveMeansNothing.ca!

From Twitter: RT @paulavergara: Raonic just one spot ahead of Isner in the rankings @28. Feels like Isner walked 100 miles to get there, & Raonic drove a Ferrari. :p

God, I really hope Milos' and Rebecca's recent successes are just the start of greater things to come for Canadian tennis. Similar to the new wave of young guns that dominated the 2010 Winter Olympics.

I just noticed that Diez played in Brazil last week. Best result of the season for him so far. He was the #2 seed and lost in the SF to the eventual champion. He also won the doubles title. He'll be in Brazil playing the futures for the next couple weeks which I think is a good idea since the lists look pretty weak and he'll have a good shot at getting some points.
