Brisbane R2 - Berankis chokes against Mayer 4/6 6/4 4/6

Great match (read: WTA style) with 13 breaks...

Berankis was one break up in 3rd but couldn't sustain his lead. Mayer broke his serve again when Bera was serving to stay in the match. Deserved win for German.

Ricardas had lots of chances to win the match, was up a break a couple times in the last set, but Mayer was just too good. Good experience for Ricardas though, he can take this to his next tournament :yeah:

4-3 up.. Still i thought he would crumble when the score in the 2nd was 0-3

Dropping one break isn't a choke. Nice tourney anyway Ricardas, you are beginning to live up to your great potential :D

tough break for berankis. he will learn from this.

No choke with 13 breaks. It was too back and forth for any lead to be maintained. Berankis will have many more attempts this year to get good results.

I'm so sad now.:sad::sad::sad::sad:

I was joking ffs :D

it's just, I wanted Bera to win, he made me a bit frustrated in the end...

Blowing a 4*-3 final set lead to Melzer and now Flo too...gotta work on those nerves kiddo:wavey:

the nerves did him in..its disappointing but he still showed some great fight and eventually he will be able to keep the nerves under control and then he'll be winning these matches.

just needs more experience at this level

another "great potential champion" who disappoints... Nadal must be laughing

Berankis just needs more experience and consistency. Obviously the game is there. I expect him to beat players like Mayer soon.

Mayer played solid, not rly great. Could/should have won with more!
Anyway, good win!

Why would Nadal be laughing? Is he a Berankis hater? :o

Tough luck Richard, but still getting to the 2nd round after going through the qualies is not a bad result.

This is not a bad week for Berankis inspite of the defeat. Mayer is a player that takes shots from out of the blue. Too different to the traditional players that he faced last year in the challenger tour added to the fact that Flo is more experienced than him. He reached the main draw from the quallies defeating Luczak and beated a more experienced player like Clement in 1st round.
He has a lot to learn in the ATP tournaments but I believe he is doing it in the right way.
