Grass court M1000

What do you guys think of a Grasscourt M1000?

Like a preview to wimbledon the 1st week of june.
I think it would "save" the grass-court. It's a bit sad to see only 6 grass tournaments in the ATP World tour level.

Check this fact:
Federer is the player who win most grass tournaments in the open era with 11 titles.

11 titles...

Yes. They should remove useless Paris-Bercy Masters and put a grasscourt one. But where? Forget about Queen's! I'll go with Halle.

Clay season and grass season should last the same amount of time, imo

Reduce hard court season. Add more grass.

Definitely. What a shame that the surface gets no weighting outside of one tournament a year.

I agree! Although it would be a shame to take away the only indoors Masters so maybe they should get win of one of the US ones (I'm thinking Cincy) - it would be awesome if such a grass-court M1000 could take place on courts designed to be more like traditional grass. Really fast with awkward low bounce. Then maybe we'd see a new wave of serve-volleyers coming through...

Come on Chris Eaton!

at the very least they ought to give Halle and Queens 500-point status. Since 4 500-level tournaments are now mandatory, put them where the players like to play (everyone tries to play a Wimby warm-up). Four 500pt tournaments packed in February is just silly.

I guess everyone agrees with this. Take hardcourts tournaments like Cincy-1000 and make Queens (or Halle) a MS tournament. I'm just saying...

Hard season should be cut a little bit to make room for some more grass IMO.

Personally I'd cut ANY OTHER SEASON.
It's the same, I just want grass-season larger.

Would be great but very unlikely to happen anytime soon...

Why get rid of Cinci? That's a great tournament!

Now Miami, on the other hand...

They should have at least one big grass tournament before Wimbledon. Halle or Queens should be made into a M1000.

Why Cincy? Cincy is one of the last few relatively fast hardcourts left. It might not be a very glamorous tournament but at least it favours attacking tennis unlike every other M1000 tournament (Bercy has now joined it in this regard). Cincy shouldn't go anywhere.

Make Halle a MS1000, make post AO season one week shorter, three weeks before Wimby, Halle in the middle.
Get rid of Paris.

No way; anywhere in the world place with more than 8 grass courts and money to held the event?

Nadull_tard

There should be a M1000 on grass instead of Toronto or Shanghai.

I'm sure they'd find a suitable venue in Germany, for instance, if they made space for a grass masters in the calendar. BTW, why is more than 8 courts a must?

Agreed, take out 3 hard Masters and put in 3 on grass, that way you have 3 in all surfaces, balanced.

Of course. I think they ought to eliminate 1 or 2 hard court Masters, and make the grass season 2 weeks longer.

It would be more fair, as it stands, the grass season is almost meaningless save for Wimbledon, which has also changed over the years.

Agreed. ATP should really not give them the choice to stay 250. They have no incentive to raise the prize money and make it 500 on their own because they get a desired field as it is since anyone wants to play a warmup tournament before Wimbledon and will go to one or the other. At the same time, the competition is better than in many that are already 500. Players deserve additional points for doing well in them and it would also give them a bit freedom with scheduling as they'd count that as one 500 played.

One of the 2 AEGON 250 could be a masters. The AEGON masters.

Also more grass in the challengers would be good. Just 1 tournament per year isn't a good choice.
I mean... All top 100 players gotta play the surface once at least.

I think there should be 1 Grass court Masters. 1 indoor should stay- Paris- Bercy looks really good this year- pretty fast indoor tournament - that should stay, because carpet is out of the schedule so 1 fast indoor Hard master should stay. But definetely Queens eleveate to 1000 tournament Master- and give another time Halle, because when is 1000 Master everyone should be there- for example Queens Master 1000 on fast grass then 2-3 weeks later should start Wimbledon on slow grass that is pretty good. And why get the rid of 1 Master tournaments- i say let them to be 10 why not 10? 10 Masters is ok- it is hard to get rid of one of Masters because most of them have tradition- IW, Miami , then 3 clay Masters is gut, - 2 are nothing - 3 is good number for clay masters and then 2 hard Masters in summer also good and Shanghai is new tournament and it is important for developing tennis in Asia and China so there is no way they will cancel Shanghai and how i said before Paris should say- only indoor fast tournament 1000.

If everyone agrees that the grass season should be longer then why will the ATP still probably not do anything about it? The tour today is pretty much hard and clay and that is doing a disservice to the sport. What is moving the powers that be away from diversity?

The more grass tournaments, the better. Unless it's slow grass like Wimbledon, which can be classified as clay.

Not sure exactly how it works but the ATP doesn't just own the tournaments outright. Two or three years ago they wanted to shut down or move Monte Carlo Masters. The Monte Carlo tournament (tournament directors? sponsors?) went to court against the ATP and won the right to keep their tournament as it was (all the ATP could do was make it non-mandatory to play). Hamburg lost, had the tournament points value downgraded and got kicked in July (hardly anyone who matters will play a clay court tournament in July -- clay season is over).

Also you can't make players play 3 big tournaments so close together, so you'd have to move FO and/or Wimby to make the time between them longer. The Slams have even less to do with the ATP -- they are completely independent.

Yes!!!!! They plays 6-8 week in clay. 1 GS, 3 MS, 1 500 and many 250.
In grass 1 gs and 2 week 250.
