a couple of years ago Tsonga was darkhorse of the tournament, before him baghdatis, soderling in RG...who do you think is going to be the dark horse of AO 2011...the guy who'll have us thinking 'wow didn't know he had that in him'

In my heart the dark-horse would be Kei.

Realistically though, it has to be Berdych.

With Fedal being as dominant as they look, seemingly everyone else outside the top 5 look like dark-horses at this point. I honestly can't see Berdych getting to the Final, but there's a minor chance, so that's why I personally look at him as a dark-horse.

For me being a dark-horse depends on the present likelihood to win it in comparison to the rest of the field rather than considering past achievements, especially when they're on other surfaces.

Oh and Monfils too.

Always there is a dark horse in Australian Open

In 2006 Baghdatis, 2007 Gonzalez, 2008 Tsonga, 2009 Verdasco, 2010...Cilic ... maybe

In 2011 i hope... Tipsarevic :)

I think that the dark-horse of this tournament would be Kei or Ricardas.

Tomic? Once he finally decides to switch those worthless legs for ones that can be bothered to move that is.

not really the whole concept of a dark horse is that they can cause an upset regardless of the calibre of apponent

I'd like the AO to be the breakthrough slam for Grigor Dimitrov but that's wishful thinking

Nikolay Davydenko will routine Nadull before the SF*.

* if the draw allows that of course.

I hope Tipsy makes a deepish run. It'll almost certainly mean there will be a few dramatic 5 setters along the way.

Serena. Why else would you think she's been missing on the WTA tour for so long? She's had a cock transplant and will enter the mens AO draw as a wildcard bulldozing her(his) way to the final beating Berdych, Murray and Rafa along the way to set up an epic final against GOAT Fed where the world will witness the first transexual AO winner.

She's dark and is a bit of a horse all right.

I think Viktor Troicki could well be the darkhorse come Aus Open 2011 (same situation with Nando after he helped Spain beat Argentina in Davis Cup in 2008, and look at the great run he had at 2009 AO).

Also, Michael Llodra (one of the few S&V'ers left in the game), he could make a deep run if he gets a good draw.

I wouldn't exactly call a recent AO champion a dark horse. ;)

But outside of the "dark horse" discussion, yes, it seems that many are overlooking Nole, as usual. It's funny to be ranked as high as he is for as long as he has been and still manage to fly under the radar. I don't want to jinx him, but I have very high hopes for Djoker's 2011 season.

I think it is best to keep it that way, Nole usually plays better when he flies under the radar, like USO last year.

I hope for Nole to have a very good 2011, hopefully SF or better in all 4 slams, and I'll be ecstatic if he wins 1 slam. :yeah:

True, I'm on the Leave Novak alone squad... He really deserves to end his career with a bunch of Grand Slams and we all know what happened the last time he arrived to Australia:D
