The only important thing that can be taken out of this match is Rafa's failed tweener attempt. This surely ends the GOAT debate.

Scoreline should have been 6-1 6-0, but Rafa clowned on one of his service games in the first set :o

Aha, the Eurosport commentators. Kept going on about Rafa's habits too. At one point it went roughly from memory:

Commentator 1: would you knock over his water bottles?
Commentator 2: Haha, yes.
Commentator 1: Maybe just rearrange them a little!
Commentator 2: (Ominous tone) He'll probably rearrange my face.

Things might get interesting in a couple more rounds.

It's hard to believe how Nadal and Fed are so far ahead of some of these guys.

Just watched a Youtube video from 3-0 in the second set. Nadal's serve and forehand looked pretty good from that portion of the match. Backhand is still MIA, but as long as Rafa can sustain running around it to play the forehand he'll be okay.

This. Considering that was his last result and he had the entire offseason to think about it, this is a surprisingly easy win for Nadull. Of course, Beck wasn't even challenger level, let's see if Nadull's lack of confidence catches up with him yet.

Nadal was suffering from a fever during the match, so he had to raise his level in the second set to dispose of this mug as quickly as possible.

as for the fever, i think he should drop out of doubles fast. no need to exert too much effort here.

Not a bad performance for a guy with a fever. Bagels are actually rare in Rafa's career.

Fever is quite believable - it was very obvious something in Nadal's game was off. Usually you only see that with him when he's very rusty, eg first hard court in Canada.

What has that got to do with it? If something is numerically rare it is numerically rare. This isn't subjective.

This Beck is a total failure. Conceding a bagel against crappy Nadal- too massive.
I hope that Gulbis and Davydenko will give him some fight, besides I don't think that Nadal cares about this tournament, it's very likely that he can gift the match to someone like he did in Queens.
