Doha R1: Federer passes through Schoorel 7-6 6-3

Schoorel was amazing, given the circumstances( second match at ATP level). He played spirited tennis in the first set. Unfortunately for him, Federer was GodLike on break points.
We should see this Dutchman more often this season, because his attacking skills are really impressive and let's hope he won't blow it.

That shot at 5-2 40-30 was

So Fed managed to upset Thomas.

Lucky Fed saved 3 set points from 0-40 serving down at 4-5 in the first set. After the tiebreak Thomas kind of lost his focus and Fed took advantage of it. Even Egofed made an appeareance as he hit a tweener when Thomas was serving 2-5 down in the second.

Good player this Schoorel. Fed played relatively well.

Roger looked good, excellent serving in the second set especially.

Schoorel impressed me, one to keep an eye on I think - betrayed his inexperience in not taking advantage of any of his 6 bps against Federer (but then so few people do)

Big game though - good serve, groundies look solid and big enough to do a lot of damage, bit of serve volley action in there as well...

He gave Roger a real run for his money today.
Hope to see more from the young Dutchie soon.

Yeah it was really a shame to see him blow those three consecutive set points in the first set. Taking a set off the GOAT in only your second ATP match would be one hell of an achievement to put on your resumé.

And he's a lefty. Guy should do some damage..

Good for the game, players unknown to most tennis fans pushing a player like Fed. Shows some strength in depth in the mens game. Schoorel is 6.7 in height? Gotta say he moves and strikes the ball far better than many really tall players I've seen. Has the serve of course, but his forehand and bh are nothing to laugh about.

Schoorel surprised me greatly, the guy fought well and played to the best of his ability, a pleasure to watch a close match (beatdowns aren't exactly my thing) :yeah:

Roger was rock solid on the big points and that's what matters, I still don't expect him to go full flight till the AO

Good effort from Schoorel, especially the first set. A good looking service action alongside very decent groundstrokes, with a touch of serve/volley thrown in. Maybe one to keep an eye on. Very good serving by Roger in the second set.

Are you saying that you knew he would push Fed like that?

dear f***heads... it wasnt a tweener... a tweener is when you have your back turned and make it thru the legs...

the correct terminology for this shot is 'reverse hot-dog'... would appreciate it if you would refer to it as such in the future...

Watching Fed hit trick shots and watching clowns like Nadull, Fakervic, and Mugfils try and hit them shows what is being lost in tennis. Guys like Santoro, Keifer, Federer, and Stepanek don't exist anymore in the younger generation, it's all bashers, moonballers, and pushers. Enjoy matches like this one while you can :)

So Federer did this today in his 1R match in Doha vs Thomas Schoorel.

I've seen del Potro pull of this shot for a winner from in the tramlines but no-one at this level from the baseline!

thats actually a good site man... nice and simple for the simple guy inside me... almost does the work for you... top work...

and good you didnt refer to the the shot as a tweener... becase it is not a tweener... you've always been a poster with a certain amount of credibility, this simple yet huge observation proves that...

hey... it's not a f***ing tweener... ok...? got it...? change the title...

the correct terminology for this shot is 'reverse hot-dog'... change your title... a tweener, or hot dog, is where you are facing away from the court... but, in this shot the player is clearly facing forwards... ie; reverse from the normal...

change the title please...

reverse hot-dog...

cheers

Well it's possible that the "tweener" could come to represent all shots between legs, regardless of direction or what kind of ball it's struck off. Language (with the exception of the artifical ones) lives - a good example being "cool", once only meaning "not hot", and now meaning virtually the opposite as in "ok" etc :)

How tall is Schoorel? I suppose around 2 meters. I saw only 1st set but the guy has potential to win service games easily, but unfortunately muggish attitude too.
