Doha R1: Schoorel vs. Federer

I was asking myself, do we need such a thread. I've never heard for Thomas Schoorel, but I saw he is #168 in the rankings, he is left-handed and he is still young(21-year old). Last year he had reached 2 Challenger finals and some more QFs.

Federer wins 6-3 6-1

Nice opportunity for Schoorel.
He had a very decent 2010, coming out of nowhere.

A Schoorel? Fed will feed him some nuts.

Don't think Schoorel has a chance against almighty Fed but he did beat De Bakker in the finals of the Dutch Masters two weeks ago.

schoorel hits bombs out of everywhere.. so it will be like 64 64 or 76 64 and roger dont face any BP during the match..

Another cakewalk draw for Federer.
I see Chiudinelli will be bending over for him in R2 aswell, unless GOAT El Amrani gets through.

Fedmug will do his best to tank the match, but Schoorel will lose anyway in 2 routine sets.

17. He will serve for it at 5-1 and and blow it after being up 40-0, have MP at 5-2, serve for it at 5-3 and blow another 40-0 lead, MP again at 5-4, blows it, gets broken at 5-5, breaks back to force the TB, blows several MP in the TB and loses :worship:

No. Schoorel doesn't have the experience to win in 2. It will take 3 sets.

The poll results sucks.
Why do people think it's funny to vote for the guy who is obviously going to lose?
It's not funny and it's not clever.
So, stop it and go for the correct player.

Lighten up. All jokes aside, there is no such thing as choosing the "correct player" to win in any match. I don't care if it's Federer or Tutankahmun. Joke or not, people have the right to go for the upset.

Why? What's the point of the poll in the first place if it's obvious who is going to lose? :D

Funny answer for funny question, great poll.

Fed is susceptable to lefties except. lalo/shark/fiasco/melmug.

fed actually has a pretty good record against lefties not named nadal. then again, there aren't many top quality lefties in this era.

I have no idea who this guy is and have never seen him play but if i were him i would try to go for every shot and play a hit and miss game.Certainly getting into rallies with Federer there can only be one winner. So to at least make it some kind of decent score Schoorel should play agressive and execute well and then he might loose by only 1 break/set

thats interesting. usually it is said that the strategy to beat fed is to play long rallies so that he makes the mistakes but fed can be vulnerable to top quality aggressive blokes. gulbis, del potro and berdych have managed to beat fed the hard way. still, i guess it is preferable to use a more counterpounching style like Hewitt or Murray if your game is up to it.

Any low ranked player with not a lot of experience if he has to face Federer or Nadal or any top player he has to go for his shots and hope for the best.
Playing long rallies against Federer might work for Murray,Nadal who have the variety in their game but certainly a player ranked outside top 100 has no chance against Federer from the baseline.

First I was going to vote for Schoorel in 2, but I remembered that Federer is back to his best days and confident to win everything this year, so Schoorel in 3.
