Doha R1: Bubka def. DGT 6-0 6-3Luinir 01-03-2011, 05:15 PM DGT  theKSHE 01-03-2011, 05:15 PM Epic victory. Ad Wim 01-03-2011, 05:16 PM WTF?! Guy is ranked 321 in the world, 23 years old so not even a young prospect. Even a bad HC-player like DGT should win against him/ This is terrible... Orka_n 01-03-2011, 05:16 PM Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new GOAT. Smoke944 01-03-2011, 05:17 PM I like DGT, but today it looked like he didn't once pick up a racket during the offseason  Congrats to Sergei on the win :) illepingis 01-03-2011, 05:19 PM Congrats to the pole vaulters son TennisOnWood 01-03-2011, 05:19 PM Someone took nice money out fo this fix!! Henry Chinaski 01-03-2011, 05:20 PM Bubka did what he had to do. DGT was hilariously shit. Every time he tried something other than a forehand blast, the results were hilarious. Drop shots and drop volleys bouncing before the net, backhand slices never making it more than six inches off the ground. Too big. Bubka has a pretty big game. His average serve speed was over 200kmph and he hit the lines near the end when a player of his ranking could have choked. Anyone know why he got a WC? He looks a better player than his ranking suggests anyway JayR 01-03-2011, 05:20 PM Excellent serving stats for Bubka.74% 1st serves with 81% pts won behind it. Service action reminds me a little of Isner with less of a knee bend. philosophicalarf 01-03-2011, 05:20 PM Bubka's serve put him in pole position. Surely going to vault up the rankings. Quite a jump in performance. I'll stop now. illepingis 01-03-2011, 05:21 PM He got a wildcard becouse his father probably Blackbriar 01-03-2011, 05:24 PM no doubt that after today, Bubka will jump higher in tha ranking. Armless 01-03-2011, 05:24 PM I never thought this Bubka's father was a pole vault legend :o misty1 01-03-2011, 05:25 PM Bubka did what he had to do. DGT was hilariously shit. Serenidad 01-03-2011, 05:26 PM Jokeson will be very upset. Henry Chinaski 01-03-2011, 05:28 PM I figured it's cos of his dad, but has Bubka Sr any specific relations with Qatar I mean? I doubt the Qatari royals just happen to be big pole vault fans. Maybe he is involved with one of Doha's sporting academies or something JayR 01-03-2011, 05:28 PM Bubka's powerful serve put him in pole position. Surely going to vault up the rankings. Quite a jump in performance. I'll stop now. :D Raising the bar for bad puns everywhere.:) vn01 01-03-2011, 05:33 PM How many players picked DGT in Suicide Tennis Doha! Henry Chinaski 01-03-2011, 05:37 PM Okay, so last year Sergey Bubka Sr was president of the IAAF. The vice-president of the IAAF, Dahlan Al-HAmAd is from...well, take a guess. Also while Bubka was president, the World Indoor Athletics champs were held in...well, guess. If you guessed "Qatar" and "Doha" respectively, then you get 2 biscuits. Some nice contacts there. illepingis 01-03-2011, 05:37 PM I figured it's cos of his dad, but has Bubka Sr any specific relations with Qatar I mean? Nathaliia 01-03-2011, 06:02 PM The only good things by DGT was a couple of serves in the 2nd set, maybe also 1-2 shots that bounced low. When he had bad phases, gosh those were properly bad. Bubka served really well and didn't let DGT drag into the match. Johnny_Bravo 01-03-2011, 06:41 PM Big Poppa will be proud :yeah: Team_Roddick 01-03-2011, 06:54 PM Very good service performance from Bubka. Horatio Caine 01-03-2011, 07:01 PM Bubka did what he had to do. He looks a better player than his ranking suggests anyway I first saw Bubka in the GBR vs. Ukraine Davis Cup tie a couple of years ago and believed back then that if he could use his big serve and hone the rest of his game he'd be a half-decent prospect. Injuries have set him back in recent months, but let's see what he is capable of this year...he has been into the top 200 before. But, as you say, this match is fairly meaningless. DGT was dreadful in the first set, and certainly apart from the serving performance Bubka wasn't amazing from the back of the court...he hit quite a few high balls that better players would have dealt with ruthlessly. Henry Chinaski 01-03-2011, 07:47 PM DGT was beyond bad. Maybe Brigadier Al-Hamad leant on him... Ilovetheblues_86 01-03-2011, 07:56 PM Bubka is on the most ethereal tennis soundtracks for youtube best moments..
