Peak Rafa vs Peak Byrditch on hardcourt

Partly making this thread because Birdy gets hardly any love for his GS semi and final back to back this year, but also because I think when Birdy is on he is really on.

We have never really seen peak Birdytch the full length of a hardcourt tournament like we have Rafa, but what Birdytch is capable of on HC is scary - much more than on grass and clay where he has only really come into his own in 2010.

Some will say Rafa always in best of 5 because birdy has a tendancy to choke, but I think peak Birdytch takes the first 2 sets, and I dont see Rafa coming back from there.

2009 AO 4th round Birdytch would be tough for Nadal. What does everyone else think? I know Rafa has 2 HC slams to Birdytchs 0 HC slam finals, but on paper I think peak birdytch takes Nadal out on hardcourt, but not in a slam final. I think it has to be early in the tournament.

Berdych is as unidimensional, if not more, as Nadull.

Berdych is probably the most brainless ball basher who passes for a top player these days. He is not in Nadal's league on any surface.

Peak Birdy only has to be unidimensional for one match on one day, so it doesnt hurt his chances against Nadull.

Come on Glenn, we both know you would be cheering like heck is Birdy was up 2 sets to 0 at the 2011 AO.

Berdych is not going to beat Nadull again.

He has become a huge wussy. Guy comes out against Nadull and thinks he's going to win extending the rallies. Pathetic.

A shame. Once he had so much potential. Nowadays you just know he's going to bend over.

Assuming they're both at full mental strength as well, I might have to go with Berdych. Guy could do what Delpo did to Nadal in the 2009 USO, not as comprehensive because Nadal wouldn't be injured, but I think it's exactly the match Nadal fears.

Yes, but we're talking about Berdych's peak mental capacity.

Nadal would eat him for lunch

Peak Berdych would kill peak Nadal on a hardcourt, problem is peak Berdych never shows up against Nadal and probably never will. :worship:

i think Berdych is better on grass than hardcourt anyway, even before 2010 he had some good results at wimbledon and halle.

Peak discussions are as useless as Murray's 'slam favourite' trophies...

Wasn't Berdych's peak form on HC on display in late 2006 when he beat Rafa a couple of times? Don't see that being good enough against Rafa these days, definately not in BO5 anyway.

Berdych at his very peak beats anyone just because of his massive power and serve, including Nadull. Of course, this form has appeared maybe 5 times in his entire career and not for an entire 5 set match as far as I know. AO against Fed was the closest I've seen to peak BO5 set Berdych.

Basically the answer to the OP is Berdych but I doubt it'll ever happen.
