One more win required to qualify for the upstart American.
Brisbane QR2: Harrison def. Bachinger 6-4 6-4Filo V. 01-02-2011, 03:17 AM One more win required to qualify for the upstart American. Hewitt =Legend 01-02-2011, 03:23 AM Why is he the "upstart" american? He always seems pretty grounded and down to earth to me.... Snowwy 01-02-2011, 03:25 AM Good win for Ryan, hopefully he can qualify. Guy Haines 01-02-2011, 07:52 AM Good luck to Harrison, hope he does well at the Australian. vn01 01-02-2011, 07:55 AM I'm happy for Ryan, Good luck in QR3 fran70 01-02-2011, 08:33 AM Good victory for Harrison. I don`t think he may find many troubles to beat Jurgen Zopp in order to jump to the main draw. Helevorn 01-02-2011, 11:22 AM great win for Harrison, now make it for the MD :worship: finishingmove 01-02-2011, 12:14 PM great double bagel PanchoPunchesYou 01-02-2011, 04:05 PM Can't wait to see Harrison in the top 10 soon. Better to watch an all-courter like him than boring players like Nadal, Murray, and other baseliners Smoke944 01-02-2011, 04:07 PM Can't wait to see Harrison in the top 10 soon. Better to watch an all-courter like him than boring players like Nadal, Murray, and other baseliners  fast_clay 01-02-2011, 04:13 PM the H-Bomb straitup 01-02-2011, 04:53 PM Go qualify Ryan :yeah: Solid start to the 2011 season Filo V. 01-02-2011, 06:00 PM Why is he the "upstart" american? He always seems pretty grounded and down to earth to me.... Upstart=Up-and-coming, starting a climb to more relevancy, higher ranking etc. Roger the Dodger 01-02-2011, 06:33 PM Solid! Ryan's the real American hope, not Young. Snowwy 01-02-2011, 06:46 PM Solid! Ryan's the real American hope, not Young. Donald is only 21, he could actually still have a decent career. straitup 01-02-2011, 08:08 PM Donald is only 21, he could actually still have a decent career. If he gets his crap together, yes Hewitt =Legend 01-03-2011, 12:06 AM Upstart=Up-and-coming, starting a climb to more relevancy, higher ranking etc. Ahh okay. In my neck of the words we use that term to describe how arrogant or how much of a brat someone is. That's why I was surprised to see that term in relation to Ryan who is a great kid. fast_clay 01-03-2011, 12:13 AM If he gets his crap together, yes the way the age limits are trending older, having already cracked the top 100 by 20 could nearly be considered a milestone... DanaKz 01-03-2011, 03:33 AM Was curious about this "upstart" and googled it :) http://www.thefreedictionary.com/upstart Noun 1. upstart - an arrogant or presumptuous person 2. upstart - a person who has suddenly risen to a higher economic status but has not gained social acceptance of others in that class Yep, as I see "upstart" is negative word. Guy Haines 01-03-2011, 04:23 AM I can see upstart being used rebelliously in a positive way -- there's a good Cody Chesnutt song called "Young Upstarts" that does that -- but you're right, it seems odd or wrong applied to Harrison, or Berankis for that matter. More applicable to Dimitrov. He's only an upstart compared to Young, since Young was the Next Hope for forever before Harrison began getting results. While Young is, well, young, he's been grinding it out longer, and is more of a peer of Querrey in terms of his juniors-to-tour trajectory timwise. And Querrey's outperformed him. | |
