That isz a very bad draw for Cilic, but is it possible for Kei to stun him?

Nishikori beat him @ USO. Mugin doesn't stand a chance.

I'm thinking Cilic will whip Kei easily, but both players are unpredictable. It will be interesting to see the work both put in during the offseason and if it has immediate benefits. Cilic has a lot on the line and I expect him to be up for this.

okay seriously! there were easier round 1's but once again kei gets stuck with this...guy has just as much bad luck with the draw as frank:mad:

anyway ..i call the upset and say kei in 3

Cilmug has had much worse defeats, this would be expected and a good thing for tennis. The sooner this ugly mug is out of the top 30 the better :wavey:

I think Cilic will take this one - I think his past success at this tournament will give him the edge and motivation.

Cilic is not mentally strong enough to defend the same tournament thrice. He'll tank this one to a worthy opponent right here and head for AO.

Nishikori in 3.

 That's a new one. I thought third time is the charm.

On a serious note, hope Marin will have a very good start to the season as usual and is back focused on tennis.

Tough draw for Kei, I would say.

His first round matchups last year where particularly tough.

Chris Guiccone
John-Patrick Smith
Ryler De Heart
Benjamin Becker
Victor Troicki
Marcos Baghdatis
Evgeny Korolev
Kevin Kim
Junior Ore
Lestor Cook

Those are his first round matches from after Wimbledon of last year.

Haven't you heard this one:

Oranges and Lemons sold for a penny
One-two-and Cilic shall tank Chennai...

Nishikori in 3.

Cilic had better wake up soon, defends title here, semis Aus, title Zagreb, then basically has no points the rest of the year. If he goes final/R16/final he'll drop to around 25 in the rankings.

Well at least he doesn't have to face the Gooch this time, Cilic is a joke compared to the redheaded GOAT :worship:

I'm rooting for Kei here. He's a single man in this horde of pushers and wooden bashers. Very entertaining guy to watch, I hope he had some decent work-out with Bradtard Giltard and now he can reach his potential.

Isn't Gilbert a Nadull tard of the first order? I hope he doesn't teach Kei to moonball...

Hope springs eternal.

I like both these players, If that's allowed here. But both have been disappointing. This is a crucial year for both.

In Cilic's favor this has traditionally been his best stretch of the year, while Nishikori hasn't done (or even played) much in Australia or the run up to it. Who knows if Cilic cares. Nishikori has more flair, but Cilic at his best has a lot more than people here give him credit for.

Nishikori played fewer tournaments in 2010 than anyone in the top 100, so if he can remain injury-free for once, then finally his ranking will be closer to his ability.

awful matchup for Marin

Anyone who can hold a racket is an awful matchup for Marin the way he's been playing lately.

And Cilic isn't? Got taken to 5 by Tomic, injured Delpo and Roddick on his fluke SF run and hasn't done anything ever since, despite being proclaimed as a threat in slams.
