Marcelo Ríos: "Federer is the best player in the world"

"Federer is the best. He's much more complete and physically resists more. I see Nadal more injury prone".

Also asked about the award Paul Capdeville received by the Chilean circle of journos as "best Chilean tennis player of the year" he replied: "He won an award? I'd rather not make any comments. I had no idea, but the award should have been won by anyone but Capdeville".

Obviously relating to their total accomplishments to date Federer is well ahead of Nadal and in the open era everybody. Nadal could overtake Federer before he retires, but time will determine if that happens.

Currently Nadal is the best in the world.

The second quote is much more interesting and newsworthy.

Best part is "I'd rather not make any comments" followed immediately by a comment.

LOL Rios giving lessons about injuries, is it April Fools Day? He showed again the twat he is, not just on the court. It's clear who's the best player when someone wins 3 majors in a year. Just winning one of those Nadal would have done what Rios never did: winning a major.

In my mind, it certainly includes 2006, which it obviously doesn't encompass in yours.
You might try checking the actual stats before making a wild, unsubstantiated (and unsubstantiable) statement like that.

See - in your mind "nowadays" means the last 3 months of 2010 and all of 2006. And that's why Roger Federer is the greatest player in tennis "nowadays".

In my mind "nowadays" is the last 2 or 3 years and I see Roger Federer *NOT* beating Rafa and having a tough time with also-rans like Nole.

Nope - not Johnny Mac - not in '83 or in '84. Fed's 2006 was impressive, but there was quite a strong feeling at the time that this Nadal kid was tough to beat on clay.

In 2010 Rafael Nadal was without a doubt the player to beat on all surfaces. He even got screwed by the grass seeding committee and still won Wimbledon.

Nole got divine intervention at US Open and still Rafa won.

Robin had a chance to humiliate Rafa at RG. Didn't work out that way.

Fed won* RG in '09,

(*wouldn't have if Rafa was healthy)

but in '10 Rafa was quite simply the power that be.

I remember '83/'84 - there were quite a few tough players. JC was still going strong. There was this Czechoslovakian kid with a monster serve

some facts for you,
fed 2007: 8 titles: 3 slams (+ one slam final), wtf, 2 masters, 1 atp500, 1 atp 250
nadal 2010: 7 titles: 3 slams, 3 masters, one atp500

fed's 2007 was better than any of nadal's season. comparing nadal's this year to 2006 is idiotic.

Nope - you're idiotic. Rafael Nadal was without question to player to beat on all surfaces in 2010. Roger Federer was second best (at best) to Rafa on clay in 2006 and 2007. He was second best on clay and grass in 2008. He didn't actually make a final in 2010.... oh wait, I forgot. AO. Who gives a fuck about AO anyway?

no. nadal wasn't player to beat on hard courts. 1 slam + one 500 and before the us open he had won a hardcourt event last time in march 2009.
i have no idea what 2008 got to do with this. and yes, ao is such a shitty event. bangkok is way better.

The only way that draw could've been easier would be if Nadull had played the ladies' draw up to the final and then played the finalist of the wheelchair tennis event.

blocking out the stupid doesnt help if it still drives discussion in retarded directions. samjones and replies to his inane drivel account for half this thread. i suppose i would be better off if i just stopped reading this crap, but i do want to discuss tennis and every once in blue moon someone here has something insightful to say.

Typical attitude from fanatics - can't take different opinions (or the truth, for that matter).

In Spanish there is a saying that I am unable to translate but it's very appropriate for these occasions.

"Prometer y prometer hasta meter y después de haber metido nada de lo prometido"

Ignore lists are for sissies who can't handle the truth.

I have no problems with your truth, whatever it is, but with the stupidity and repeating the same nonsense ad nauseum.

Don't tell me you buy into the whole spartan thing with nadull,he has a luxurious/normal upbringing, his uncle supports him in anyway he could:devil:, he is a natural on clay.
So he struggles on HC so does everygreat on their weakest surface.
OK what's so hard when speaking of nadull.

I don't buy the whole Spartan thing, but I think he's the best player at playing under pressure. ATP is riddled with chokers.
What I don't buy is that Nadal is any more pampered than the rest. Uncle Toni is no more of a luxury than Federer and his Michael Jackson outfits and 'call the lines as I see them!' air, Novak and his family caravan and I-can't-breathe antics, or Murray-and-mumsy who converse with coach openly.

ahh you're a newbie...here's a little taster of how it works around here....

someone posts something postive with the name rafa/roger in the title...

quo the fans of the rafa/roger (depending on who was omitted from the title) to belittle the foundations of the anaylsis which says rafa/roger has done something positive; even if the title takes nothing away from the omitted player

fan who agree with the title defend their man the best way the know how...by trashing the player not included in the praise

fans who started bitching start to get personal .....rafa looks like Ms piggy on steroids...roger is the lovechild of Liberace ...still with me?

fans start questioning the tennis know how of the rival fans...throw in some random words like tards..fangirl..troll (in some cases its well placed)

did i miss anything in tha pattern?
