Just out of curiosity...

When i say competitive, I mean also quality wise, not only being played on level terms...

Imho, it's Shanghai 06...

hopefully, your choice will be between my poll's options...

Pls. don't turn this into a joke by writing smth like: why not RG 08 as an option ? ;)

Wimbledon 2008 or Rome 2006. I believe Rome 2006 wins by a small margin though because Nadal did have to save match point if I remember correctly

Wimbledon 2008. It changed the whole rivalry completely. If Federer had won that, he would have momentum, which would carry him over to AO 2009 win, while Nadal wouldn't have enough confidence to believe he could beat Federer on the big stage outside of Paris.

Another match Federer shouldn't have lost :o Sampras would never lose to Nadal at Wimbledon.

by the same token, Nadal allowed Federer back into the 4th set tiebreak with a double fault and UE when he was 2 minibreaks up at 5-2 :o

Not to mention the 0-40 game in the 3rd set when he suddenly couldn't get the ball in the court. Shoulda been over hours earlier.

Yes there was a bit choking on his part too which was unusual for him but kind of expected when being so close to his first non clay slam title.

Rome 2006 and it's not close, most of their matches stink the joint up, this one didn't.

It was frustrating wasn't it? I remember he was choking against Melzer of all people at Roland Garros this year. But he lucked out with a net chord at 6-6 in the tiebreak

The choke when serving for the match at 5-4 in 3rd set was absolutely sickening. I seriously had doubts about his mental strength and ability to win the final when that happened. Fortunately in Wimbledon 2010 he managed to maintain focus throughout the final matches.

Rome 2006 was the most competitive in my opinion, followed by Wimbledon 2008. AO 2009 might have made it onto the short list had Fed not imploded in the final set.

Wimbledon 2008 was the best Fedal match. Rome 2006 and AO 2009 were also good, but at Wimbledon they made the greatest match of all time. :worship:

I find Wimbledon 2008 to be such a turning point in the history of this rivalry and the game, drama wise. Quality wise it wasn't Rome 06 or AO 09, but the quality was still pretty damn good.

SW19 2008. the greatest match in the history of tennis for someone who started watching tennis one month before that day.

Less absurd.

AO 09, even though Fed imploded in final set, it was best tennis I've seen in one match from Fedal.

Rome 2006 was their best hands down
then Miami 2005 and Shanghai 2006
the WTF 2010 was pretty good as well

They have never played at their best (at the same time) in a GS IMO
