Argentina v Russia 2002

Nalbandian/Arnold bt Safin/Kafelnikov - 6-4 6-4 5-7 3-6 19-17

It lasted about 6 hours if I remember correctly and was absolutely amazing!

Australia v. Switzerland 2003

Hewitt def. Federer 5-7 2-6 7-6(4) 7-5 6-1

Hewitt came back from the dead in this one, showing, once again, that some of his best tennis comes during DC ties.

Australia v. Brazil 2001

Hewitt def. Kuerten 7-6(5) 6-3 7-6(3)

This match was played in Guga's home town of Florianopolis, before a crowd that was absolutely convinced that Guga could not lose on clay in Brazil to a skinny little Aussie kid. Watching the crowd sit in disbelief as Lleyton dismantled Guga in straights is almost as much fun as watching the match. This is probably the best match Lleyton ever played on clay.

Australia v. Spain Final 2003

Hewitt def. Ferrero 3-6 6-3 3-6 7-6(0) 6-2

Philippoussis def. Ferrero 7-5 6-3 1-6 2-6 6-0

Two great five-setters give the Aussies a well-deserved Davis Cup win.

Lots fantastic matches in dc, hard to choose...but maybe arnaud boetsch/ niklas kulti in goteborg in 1996. Sweden/France
Last match in final, Boetsch had 3 ball match against him in the 5th set...0/40...he saved them then won the match and France was the winner ! :D

=) Forget/ Sampras in 1991 but I don't remember (and I like Pete so mauch that I don't know if I would had be happy to see him to lose)

= )Clement/Rosset 2 or 3 years ago in Neuchatel. Arnaud won 15/13 in the 5th set ! Unforgettable.

And I forget other great match I think..

I saw it on TV at the time -- it had to be the craziest, wildest thing I've ever seen. If I recall correctly, it was played on a wood gymnasium floor. The crowd was absolutely nuts and Arias looked scared to death!

He should have been scared -- some dolts in the crowd were throwing batteries and heated coins at him. And Paraguay got suspended from hosting at-home ties for a period of time.

You are correct about the wooden floor. The ITF finally had to disallow that as a "choice of surface". Probably were afraid it would be ice next time.

If you search for "paraguay" in the rec.sport.tennis newsgroup on google, you can read all the stories about this infamous tie.

in graz i think it was '94 or 95'

also gaudenzi-m.norman (final in milan) not for the quality of game but i was there, the atmosphere was terrific and the end was really sad :(

gaudenzi was 4-0 down in the fifth, then the crown get into the match and he leveled at 5 all...then his shoulder (and maybe his career :( ) broke...and he withdrew...

but here in italy is really difficult to see matches from other country, exept for the final and the german...so i didn't see lots of matches i believe interesting ;)

bye

ps:for my wallet the most important was the great win of ESCUDE against hewitt in the final, really great tennis from one of the most pure talent ;)

Henrik Sundström beating John McEnroe in Göteborg, 84.
The Mac was soooooooooooo pissed off in that match and with that tie, especially the indoors clay, one of the very few losses in his arguably best season.
Still  and :haha: after all these years.

Jonas Bjorkman df Mark Philippoussis 75 62 62  because he destroyed the scud, and clinched vistory for us! (er,... Sweden.)

also, Thomas Enqvist df Mark Philippoussis 63 64 62 :D Because I'd never seen Thomas play that well! Its nothing against Mark, but it was just so great to see my guys playing amazing tennis. Money well spent.

Stefan KOUBEK (AUT) 6 (4) 6 7 4 6
Olivier ROCHUS (BEL) 7 2 5 6 3

That was fantastic. Both players were having cramps, but they were fighting until the end. :)

Stefan KOUBEK (AUT) 6 4 6 4 10
Magnus GUSTAFSSON (SWE) 4 6 4 6 8

Really old one from 1999. But I remember it. Fantastic. With such a young team, and then reaching such a success. Even Jürgen was playing. He was 18 then (just saw that he is two months younger than me *lol*).

Alex also was there. Playing doubles. So he is in the team since a long time. Didn't know that!

Belarus vs Russia 2004

Mirnyi def. Safin 7-6(3) 7-6(5) 1-6 4-6 11-9

It was one of the best matches I've ever seen. Very emotional, full of beautiful moments, mistakes :)

The best! :yeah:

Corretja's victory over Sampras on grass in the US was great. But as a spectator, even though I obviously disliked the end of the match, I enjoyed a lot the Ferrero-Hewitt of last year. It was great tennis by both sides, every player dominated and was dominated during many moments of the match, the stadium, everything was so great - but the final score.
