Hi RogiFan. Ya, he's cute in that pic. Love his smile. I laugh when I first saw him and Pat dancing with Ballerinas. Not that it looks bad or anything, just unexpected. Nonetheless, not too shabby for a beginner. And I bet that ballerina wants an encore.

:)

Juanqui handed out trophies for the Vuelta Ciclista de Espana -- Spain's cycling tour [on now]. He's often invited to do these sporty things! He also hangs w Sergio Garcia and says Sergio is a pretty good tennis player -- they both come from the Valencia region.

Did I mention on this board that I was in Spain 2000? Well, I was not in Barcelona and not in Dec. I was in the South [my fave area of Spain -- it's amazing!] and it was Oct so I could not have gone to the DC. Besides I heard the tix sold out IMMEDIATELY. Que lastima! What a pity!

134. Since turning pro in 98, he won 6 ATP titles including 2 TMS and was in 6 finals.
135. He didn't play Wimby in 2000 because he wanted to support his fellow countrymen to boycott Wimby for disregarding players ranking.

That makes sense, since he's the youngest in the family. I love seeing his father, he looks so classy and very gentlemanly. No wonder Juanqui is so well bought-up.

:) Yep, that's right -- little boy or little child! I saw his father and sisters last year (news only) and they looked so cool!! Juanqui IS well brought-up! He's such a good little boy!!

Marat really deserved to win today!! Will be great for his confidence but watch out guys! He is indeed back!

So many cool and lovely guys this year in Shanghai: Marat, Juanqui, Rogi, Carlos...

He is the youngest. After the 2 girls, mama Ferrero wasn't gonna have another one. But papa Ferrero wanted a boy so they have their 3rd child. And we're all thankful for that:angel:

Andy, Ugh:rolleyes: Guga:confused: I never associate him as sexy. AA, why, bcos he's bald?:p Alex is sexy, so is Moya. They should definitely be higher in this chart. And JMG, only if he's not so gay :p (I'm so unfair to JMG, I heard he's a good guy, but I just can't think of him as anything but very gay. Want to know what they said about Juanqui?

Here it is but who knows what it all means!!!

3. Platz Juan Carlos Ferrero

Wer drauf steht…

I guess Allerdings is nickname... he's a "dunkelblonde"! :p

3. Place Juan Carlo Ferrero

"bronze" fur the Spaniard - a rather uberraschendes judgement of our readers, as we find. Because a Beau is not Juan Carlo Ferrero. Also its Korpergrosse of 1.83 is not particular meters impressing. And the radiant emittance stop itself also within limits. In the television the dark-blond Sandplatzwuhler comes rather calmly more ruber. However mosquito, as its Spanish Amigos call it, is extravagant a little. Juan Carlo loves Spielcasinos and drives in its spare time thick Harleys. In addition: It shaves its legs. Who drauf stands...

I don't want to try guess why. But I know Baldy shaved his chest, so that he can look better when he changes on the court. I think some men thinks hairy is good, and some men don't. Juanqui is pretty stylish, I think he does care about his appearance, afterall, he is a young man under public eyes.

BTW, he must have shave his legs in public, so I'm sure he doesn't mind ppl to know and which to me, it means that there may be some athletic reason behind. Anyway, I said I won't guess...his legs are to die for. (how many times I mentioned that I love skinny legs:D )

:D Good one, Vera!!

As for Juanqui... and Rogi... that's a totally different story!

Here's the ROGI descrip [though I posted this already in the Rogi forum]:

7. Platz Roger Federer

Erfolg macht eben verfurhrerisch.

Hackie: let's see what convoluted pseudo-English translation we get!!! I can't wait!
:D

ILR
11-05-2002, 08:14 PM
I think Hackies gone but.........

Its mother Lynette is so lies there Sudafrikanerin, and like Roger feather in the hot sand, remembered it a little at one of the best known Promis at the cape: Howard Carpendale. To be sure: a “Hello Again” one does not need to shout it. It never was away. Instead sturmte it with Swiss Prazision of the rank list as a ware it the Matterhorn. In the feminine fans, it arrived most long above. They love would warn the already Roge with the long, blowing because it has so a quiet radiation. Really cool, like it at that time in Wimbledon Pete Sampras abfiedelte. Success makes just verfurhrerisch.

RogiFan
11-05-2002, 08:37 PM

I think they are saying sort of:

his mom is South-African he likes the hot/warm sand [i.e., beaches] who the hell is howard carpendale?? they say sth re: Swiss precision and his ranking and the Matterhorn [stereotyping] i think they mention the female fans, his long mane of hair and sth about beating sampras at wimby and how cool it is and therefore how cool rogi is also maybe that he's seductive or sth equally sexy... whatever! :p

let's make up our own translation!

Vera
11-05-2002, 08:44 PM
That sounds fine, let's go with that then.

I just went back to the JC's one. The whole thing doesn't sound too complimentary to me. His height is not impressive??? Why, how tall should he be? Good enough for me. Okay, where's my German when I need the most.

RogiFan
11-05-2002, 09:20 PM
:) Very good question, Vera! Juanqui looks tall enough to me [or for me]! So he shaves his legs... ! There are worse things in a man! He's not a Beau? Do these voters need glasses or what! I'll take a dunkelblonde Sandplatzwuhler any day!

BTW, the pic they chose was not interesting [not that it didn't show Juanqui in a good light, but it was an oncourt photo] -- they should have shown him offcourt, preferably shirtless [they had a shirtless pic of andy...]. There are SO many hot photos of Juanqui to choose from!! What do these people know anyway?!

The photo of Marat was nice -- on a motorcycle looking cute/sexy. Haas' photo is w his GF -- he's wearing a suit. COuld have had a better pic of Alex too, not just oncourt!! They (the media) does this a lot. Everyone seems to see Juan Carlos in a "awww, *so cute*, wouldn't he make a great brother?!" sort of light--like he's asexual or something

Have you read Deuce? They had this thing where they asked some girls (20ish) to rate the hottest players in a "tournament" of sorts. Juan Carlos lost to James, if I remember correctly, in like the second round. They all said, "Oh, he looks like my cousin! I couldn't date my cousin!"

But I agree, he just exudes some quality that I find intensely appealing. Maybe it's because he hasn't embraced his public self and tried to exaggerate it (a la Roddick--I liked Roddick last year, I liked his enthusiasm and his energy on court, but the hype has gotten to him and he's changed, which is sad for US men's tennis :(). Maybe it's because he doesn't complain a lot or get into bitchfights about stupid things. Maybe it's because he just goes out there and does his thing, and when he gets confident (Roland Garros) he just plays even better.

I can't quite put my finger on it ;)

Yeah, I read that! I was not at all impressed w that article -- why didn't they choose a more diverse group of women?? Their results sucked for the most part. Also, I found the mag to be overly American-biased [what else is new!]. Do they plan on doing another issue? If so, I should make some suggestions. At least they had an article on Rogi. Juanqui does go out there and do his job -- no fussing around, no mindgames, no primadonna behaviour [like someone we know]. He's pretty mature for his age -- a testament to his upbringing!! ;)

As far as I know, they are going to do another Deuce next year. It's supposed to be "the annual magazine of the ATP" I agree, it was really American-biased but overall, not half bad for a magazine about tennis. Disappointing coming from the ATP, but not too bad if you consider all of the tennis mags out there.

As a matter of fact, I did read Deuce. I bought it bcos they have Juan Carlos in it. See, I don't buy any "Tennis" Magazine, bcos Tennis only have Roddick, Sampras, JMG, Andre, and Roddick and Sampras...very rarely do they ever mention JC...

Anyway, you see, the picture they use in that article, with him in a helmet. WTF, I have to say his pic is very not appealing. And I think they deliberately use a bad picture. No wonder he lost so badly. Juanqui has a boyish look, so I'm not surprised of the result...Though, looking at Roddick, he looks so immature and I think he's worse than my teenage cousin...

I think I'm first impressed by his poise on court, never affected by his surrounding. He looks skinny but he has so much power which is surprising. And yes, he's not overwhelmed by success, still lives in his little town and....well, just everything about him impresses me.

If the ATP is controlled by the USA, it's only because we have one of the richest tennis programs in the world. It's not fair because the best players aren't even American (well . . .)

I think we tennis fans are above the level that the media is giving us. I still can't get a date with him in my dream. But I think I just saw him last week...for some reason, I dreamt that Costa was dead and Juanqui was in his funeral, he looked very sad. So I said to myself, no wonder Juanqui lost RG to Albert, bcos he knows his best friend is going to die so it's a last wish that he gave Albert.

:) Vera, there were only 2 mags that I bought in Spain! I w/have to get a subscription OR send away for back issues, which cost a fortune!! I would love some of those mags! Anyway, if I get around to reading the mags I'll check for info on Juanqui and post it for you.

Re: Aussie mag -- anything interesting in it lately? I rarely see it here -- it's so far behind. I missed the one w Pat on the cover!!! Anything w Rogi in it??

The Russian mag w/be good too but my Russian sucks big time -- it takes me a day to read one article -- no, more like a week!!! W a dictionary!! ;)

Wow, how many languages do you know?

Chapters always carries the Australian version of Tennis. Lately, it's all Hewitt, as one can understand. The talk about Pat here and there, but not much. I don't think I've seen Rogi in it.

My languages are French and Spanish, w a little Italian [I do read Italian tennis sites] and even less Russian -- it's too tough when you are away from it!:(

I posted a fun little series of pictures and captions in that thread on wtaworld!

I hope you all noticed me making fun of Andre :D

Vera

Yes, Becca. I saw that pic. Really funny, I almost choked laughing.
Okay, I found this pic in Shanghai. Now, we can CLEARLY see that he didn't shave his legs. So I concluded that the magazine is really all BULLs.

I can't believe I somehow missed an entire discussion of what it was we found so appealing about him *kicks self*

Oh well, next time ;)

I know what you mean -- I don't mind sharing him w fewer people too! Same w Rogi. Why Juanqui and Rogi are not always considered sexy and Pandy is, well, it's a mystery to me!! Oops, gotta check my dinner!

I much prefer it this way. When I go to a tournament I try and take at least one picture of everyone that I see (some I take many times that many :D). I am seriously embarrassed to stand there and take pics of Andy before the match, because I look around and see all the teeny bopper crowd sighing and snapping pics left and right, and squealing - ugh, it makes me want to run.

I can do this at Ferrero's match without much fuss, and without feeling silly :D

At least the women doing it to him usually average older than 15 ;)

It's funy - I was sitting beside some woman at the Toronto Masters Series (round 1) who half way through the match literally sighed and said "ooohh, he's so cute!" - did I mention she was old enough to be my moms mom? lol :D Okay well, more like my mom, I guess she was mid 50's. Not that old, my bad. But still - made me smile ;)

And at the US Open, it was the same thing - not so teeny bopper ;) The girls in the row infront of me (4 of them, since they were little rows of 4) - were about my age, maybe a couple years older. And the women to my left and a row down (who was frighteningly amusing) looked 30ish.

218. Juanqui got his revenge over AA BIG time in a BIG arena, proving he's BETTER than him!!

Hi Rebecca!!

My Mother thinks some tennis players are quite goodlooking -- she used to like Haas but she's gone off him lately and now follows Moya!!! She's trying to get to know Juanqui more [it would help if they showed more of his matches] and I think she's really warmed up to Rogi!!! So... age has nothing to do with anything!! It's fun!! I wonder what the players think about women of all ages being interested in them [for whatever reason]. Hee hee! :p

Chloe le Bopper
11-15-2002, 03:15 PM
I know age has nothing to do with people finding others attractive ;)

I was just getting at Andy's teeny bopper (and for some reason I find a lot of Gay men like him too ) following, vs Ferrero's less scary one :D

I've talked about this before, but it makes me laugh.

:) Yeah I know what you mean re: Andy Pandy people!! Speaking about things like commentators' biases -- what about Andy? DO they ever say anything about him NOT making it to Shanghai? They conveniently overlook the fact that he didn't do much this year -- he's touted as the next up-and-comer in US -- yeah, so where is he then???!!! They can't help criticizing the other guys who ARE there -- enough already!! PMac was SO harsh w Rogi at RG and Wimby this year -- I couldn't stand it!
